The Wildcats from Santa Fe traveled to Cornersville on Monday for a game with the Lady Bulldogs, but the home team was a no show for the majority of the contest and Santa Fe headed back to Maury County with a convincing 47-20 win. "We've got to learn to take care of the basketball," Cornersville coach Peyton Newton said. "We've talked about breaking the press all year, it's been hurting us all year. We've got to learn how to take care of the basketball and we've got to hit the easy shots."...

One of the hardest accomplishments to achieve in the game of football is to beat the same opponent two times in one season and to make the game even more difficult the Marshall County Tigers had to beat one of its all-time rivals, Giles County to advance to the 4A quarterfinals in the TSSAA state playoffs for the second season in a row.
Now the Tigers have to tackle that feat two weeks in a row as Marshall County demolished the Bobcats 45-0 and will host Spring Hill next Friday.

Over 1,200 fans witnessed a classic TSSAA Class 2A playoff game Friday night at Murrey E. Holton Memorial Field as the Forrest Rockets (11-1) came back to win for the second week in a row, marking the first time in school history that Chapel Hill has won a second round postseason game and accumulated 11 wins in a season.
"We honestly all week did not mention that," Johns said. "We always have in the past and I think that was the difference----we looked at one game at a time, all those losses were in the past and this team has never lost a second round playoff game."

Forrest's Caitlyn Yost was that seventh-grader with the wild hair and unbelievable talent as a youngster before playing her eighth-grade season on the varsity squad.
"When I got moved up in eighth grade it really helped me with my growth as a player and a person," Yost said. "I'm just so grateful for everyone who took me under their wing that year and everyone I have played with at Forrest and coach (Jeremy) Jean, who has changed me from my awkward middle school stages."

Giles County (8-3) upset region 3-4A number two seed Hixson last Friday night to gain a chance at redemption against an old familiar foe when the Bobcats travel to Lewisburg tonight, looking to avenge its biggest loss of the season, a 45-10 let down at Marshall County on September 16.
The Bobcats come to Lewisburg just eight points away from a one loss season, having dropped close games to 5A Shelbyville Central (five points) and 4-4A runner-up Page (three points) and have won five of six after the lopsided loss to the Tigers by averaging 45 points per contest.

Never before in the history of Forrest football have the Rockets advanced past the second round of the playoffs or won 11 games in a season, but they have a chance to shatter both records this week when they host Meigs County at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill in a Class 2A playoff contest.
"We aren't looking at it like that, we are totally focused on controlling what the 2016 Rockets do," first-year Forrest head coach Brent Johns said. "This team had nothing to do with those other Forrest teams losing in the second round."

The first round of the TSSAA state playoffs passed through Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg with more of a low key feel as the MCHS Tigers (11-0) beat the East Hamilton Hurricanes (5-6) with ease 46-0 for its second shutout in as many playoff games.
"I'm just happy that we executed on all three phases again tonight," MCHS coach Thomas Osteen said. "We started fast, we respected our opponent, didn't come out of the gate slow because we weren't focused and we had a great week of preparation in practice and all of those things came together and that's what happens when you execute in all three phases of the game."

When it seemed all was lost and the season was over, Luke Cunningham, like he has done several times before this season saved the Rockets, just ask the coach.
"That was huge, huge, huge," Forrest coach Brent Johns said. "I look back to the summer when Luke came out for the team and we just were not sure how he could help us, but I'm glad he did and like I told the guys after the game, 'Luke Cunningham just saved your season'."
