The 55th Annual World Tournament at Chapel Hill was pared down to just four teams this year because of the vote by the Duck River Valley Conference members at the beginning of the school session to rotate the DRVC Tournament site. It didn't matter to the Forrest Lady Rockets, who pulled off a big upset over 2A Page in round one before taking down Cannon County 36-25 in the title game Saturday for back-to-back tournament titles. more
One indisputable fact about this Marshall County Tigerettes' team is its ability to play shutdown defense. This season Marshall County has held Creekwood and Pearl-Cohn to its third lowest point totals this season, Culleoka to its second-lowest output this season, Cascade to its lowest total this year, and Mount Pleasant and CPA to their lowest point totals in over two and a half seasons. Defense was once again on full display Tuesday night as the Tigerettes held visiting Giles County to its lowest point total since 2012-13. more
The Forrest Rockets are slipping further down in the District 9A standings after dropping their third league game in a row via a 72-51 loss at Eagleville Tuesday night. "Eagleville was very physical, athletic and senior loaded, so it is very difficult to defend them," Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. "They have been the only district team that we struggled with twice." Forrest (4-20, 2-8) is in sixth place in the league standings and is headed for a District 9A Tournament play-in game matchup with Moore County (1-20, 0-10) on February 11 at Huntland. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets made the short trek to Eagleville Tuesday and came away with 50-44 lunch pail win. "Anytime we play Eagleville it is going to be a dogfight," Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. "They were ready to play and made us do some things we haven't done in the past." Class A Miss Basketball hopeful and Belmont signee Caitlyn Yost followed up her 38-point effort at Community on Friday with 25 points at Eagleville, including three 3-pointers and a stellar 8-for-9 effort from the free throw line. more
Emotions ran high inside Dottie Kelso on Tuesday night as a standing room only crowd showed up not just for the always entertaining biannual Giles-Marshall showdown but to show support for one of its own favorite sons, senior D'Andre Brown, who suited up just three days after the passing of his father Jason Brown, an avid Tiger fan who rarely missed a contest. On a night where everything went right for the home team in a 67-50 trouncing of the bitter rival from Pulaski, fans were reminded of one of the most important reasons why young men and women play sports, the relationships you build with your teammates and coaches. more

Tuesday night's game against Santa Fe was one the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs wish they could have back. If the Lady Bulldogs, sporting just one District 11A loss, took care of business against Santa Fe it would have had a chance to play for first-place in a matchup with Richland looming on the horizon Thursday night. Unfortunately for Cornersville (8-6, 6-2), the Lady Wildcats (8-7, 5-3) weren't ready to give up on its own district title hopes and moved within one game of second place with a convincing 57-45 win over the Lady Bulldogs. more
The last time Cornersville and Santa Fe met, the Bulldogs embarrassed the Wildcats with a 54-point blowout win in a game Santa Fe scored just 16 points. Tuesday night the Wildcats (1-15, 0-8) showed they had drastically improved since early December, trailing by just 10 points two minutes into the third quarter before the Bulldogs turned up the heat and won going away 70-43 in a wild game for both teams. more
The up and down Forrest Rockets took a nose dive on Tuesday at Chapel Hill, suffering an 81-59 blowout loss at the hands of #10 ranked Middle Tennessee Christian School. The Rockets (4-18, 2-6) could not keep up with the District 9A first place Cougars (14-3, 8-0), who have won six in row and eight out of the last 10 games versus the Rockets. "MTCS is a veteran tough team that went to the state last year," Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. "It's hard to fight their size and skill level at this moment." more
Prior to March 1, 2010, the Forrest Lady Rockets had never lost to Middle Tennessee Christian School, but on that fateful night everything changed when the Lady Cougars upset Chapel Hill in the Region 5A Tournament semifinals at East Robertson. From then on it has been a war on the hardcourt between the two schools with the latest battle taking place at Forrest Tuesday night where the Lady Rockets made it five wins in a row over the Lady Cougars after clawing out a tough 61-55 win. more

Following a late season winning streak, the Lewisburg Middle School boys received a bye in the first round of the James C. Haile Tournament at Middle Tennessee Christian School and opened the tournament against Macon County Middle in the second round on Monday night. The Tigers trailed big in the first quarter before mounting an inspiring comeback in the second quarter and briefly taking the lead before running out of gas late in the fourth quarter and ending the season with 50-39 loss. "I think we did well," LMS coach David Lovell said. "I mean, it's a three-point game and then they hit three three's in a row and all of a sudden we're down 12. And (the shots) were from 25 feet. And so you don't see that much in middle school and our guys weren't ready for it." more
The Lewisburg Middle team found itself in a familiar situation on Saturday on the opening day of the James C. Haile Tournament at Middle Tennessee Christian by bringing in an ultra-talented team with a great record onto the court, but going up a tough draw in North Middle School from Winchester. Last season under similar circumstances the highly rated Tigerettes (11-4) opened the tournament up against Avery Trace Middle with a substantial lead before going cold in the second half and ending the season with an upset loss. This season the Tigerettes opened the game up ice cold from the field before finding its range in the fourth quarter, but much too late for the comeback and suffered another disappointing season ending loss at 48-21. more
Perhaps nobody outside its own locker room expected the Tigerettes to progress to the point the 2017 team had coming into Friday night's game against Page. With seven wins midway through the season the Tigerettes had already tied the win total of the past two seasons combined with a chance to pass that total with a win over the Lady Patriots. But Page (9-7, 2-1) wasn't quite ready to let the upstart Tigerettes (7-8, 1-2) ruin its second place standing so easily, handing Marshall County its eighth loss of the season in a tight 47-35 contest. more
The Forrest Rockets, inspired by the big crowd on hand at Chapel Hill Friday night for 100 Years of Forrest Lady Rockets Basketball and Homecoming used the energy to defeat Fayetteville 48-40. "It was a big win, the crowd was really cool," Forrest coach Randy Tombs said. "It was a fun game to watch and coach and its fun for me when I can sit back and watch the kids play." more
The Forrest Lady Rockets celebrated 100 years of girls basketball at Chapel Hill in a big way Friday night versus Fayetteville, routing the Lady Tigers 74-38. "It was a great atmosphere Friday night and it meant a lot to us that there were so many former players here to watch the game," Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. "I think it gave the team a little extra boost, wanting to play well in front of all those players." Forrest's Madison Curtis and Fayetteville's DJ Horton traded baskets to start the game before the Lady Rockets blasted into another galaxy, scoring 27 straight points for the early knockout punch. more

A trip by Page to Lewisburg on Friday night provided the Tigers a chance to do something it hadn't done since the end of the 2016 regular season-- win three games in a row. And although a scrappy Page squad hung around for the better part of the game, the Tigers now have a chance to do something it has not done since the 2015 season after beating the Patriots 65-53. A win Thursday against bitter district rival Cascade will give the Tigers its first four-game winning streak in over two years. more
Coming off an 11-day holiday break, the Marshall County Tigerettes welcomed a Spring Hill squad to Dottie Kelso Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday night and needed a couple of quarters to shake off the rust before running away with a 62-38 win. "It was a good win, a district win," MCHS coach David Steely said. "Just too sloppy was the main problem. Not consistent and that's what we're trying to get better at." "To beat better teams we're gonna have to get more consistent, but I like the fact that our expectations are changing from we just want to win some games to it's not ok to play a certain way even when we win big." more
The Huntland Hornets (5-12, 4-2) have just five wins this season, but all five of those victories have come against District 9A foes, including an 81-67 weather related makeup game home win over Forrest Wednesday. The Rockets (3-17, 1-5), coming off their first district win of the season on Tuesday night versus Moore County were in the game for most of the first half before Huntland began to pull away. more
