On Wednesday at Chapel Hill, Forrest’s Brynn Colvin officially signed a Letter of Intent to play soccer next season at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. “I’m looking forward to it,” Colvin said. “They have a great team and a great coach, so it just works out really great for me.” Colvin was a five-year member of the Lady Rockets’ soccer team, playing on the team as an eighth-grader. more
Coming off an eight-point loss to tenth-ranked Richland (21-1) on Tuesday, Friday night’s game against Grace Christian-Franklin had major District 11A Tournament implications for the Cornersville Bulldogs. Beat the Lions, whom Cornersville had previously beaten by 20 points in an earlier meeting at Franklin, and the Bulldogs would claim fourth place outright. Lose to the Lions and the Bulldogs would be locked in a three-way tie with Grace Christian (7-16, 6-8) and Culleoka (8-15, 6-8) for fourth place in the final league standings. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets returned to the court Monday night, coming off arguably their worst performance of the season in a 24-point loss to Moore County last Friday in a game that would have locked up first place with a win in the ultra-competitive District 9A. Forrest had little time to dwell on the loss as Monday's opponent featured Mt. Pleasant, who is tied for second place in District 11A. The Lady Rockets ended the regular season Tuesday in Chapel Hill against Perry County, a team that participated in the state tournament in Murfreesboro last season. more
With the District 9-1A tournament brackets already set, the boys from Chapel Hill traveled to Mt. Pleasant (17-6) on Monday to try and sharpen its game to get ready for Moore County on Saturday afternoon. And although the five-win Rockets (5-23) squad have given most opponents all they could handle, losing nine games by six points or less, Forrest didn't put up much of a fight as the Tigers won going away by the score of 62-45. more
Since a win over Moore County in the 2011 region final at Community, the Raiderettes have dominated Forrest, beating the Lady Rockets 12-out-of-16 times, including season-ending defeats in 2013 and 2015. The two historic rivals met again at Lynchburg Friday night with the regular season District 9A title on the line and the Raiderettes were ready with a long range aerial blitzkrieg that resulted in a 70-46 shellacking over Forrest. “If I can sum it up in one word it would be embarrassing from top to bottom,” Forrest coach Jeremy said. “I didn’t have them ready to play and they weren’t ready to play or to defend anybody.” more
The Forrest Rockets’ trip to Lynchburg Friday night was semi-sweet as the Rockets beat the Raiders 54-40 to earn a coin flip with Fayetteville at Saturday morning’s District 9A meeting to stay out of the district tournament play-in on February 11 versus the same Moore County squad. “I’m very proud of the effort,” Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. “The boys stayed focused on the entire game and it was very productive.” Unfortunately, the Rockets (5-23, 3-9) lost the toss to Fayetteville (6-19, 3-9) and will meet the Raiders (1-22, 0-12) in a 2:30 p.m. start at Huntland on Saturday. more
A region tournament spot was on the line Friday when Grace Christian-Franklin (6-18, 4-10) paid a visit to Cornersville for Senior Night and the final regular season District 11A contest. With a loss, the Lady Bulldogs could find itself as low as sixth place, but with a win Cornersville (12-9, 9-5) might end up as high as second place. One thing was for sure--the Lady Bulldogs could not suffer a letdown versus the Lady Lions in order to make a serious push for its 12th region tournament appearance in the past 13 seasons. Judging by the first half alone in which the Lions scored just four points, the Lady Dawgs fully realized the importance of the contest and cruised to a 48-32 win. more

It was Senior Night at Chapel Hill Thursday as the Forrest Lady Rockets finished up the regular season with a resounding 66-45 win over visiting Perry County. “I thought that we played as well as we have in a while on both ends of the floor,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “Our focus was where it has to be for the remainder of the tournaments.” Forrest took care of business early, jumping out a big lead and never looking back with senior all-time leading scorer Caitlyn Yost leading the way with 21 points and a 7-for-8 performance from the free throw line. more

Marshall County finished off last week with two losses by a combined 14 points against the number one and two teams in District 12AA and started off the week with a disappointing 37-point loss against 3A Lawrence County on Monday night. The following night provided the Tigerettes a chance to wipe the bad taste of three consecutive losses out of its mouth with a senior night game against Cascade (4-18, 2-7). Marshall County (10-11, 4-5) took that opportunity to get back on track and stay in the thick of the district race with a 51-36 win that was ultimately decided by the end of the first half with Marshall County in the lead, 28-14. "We took control from the beginning and that was what we kind of talked about before the game," Tigerette coach David Steely said. "We set a different tone tonight than we set last night against Lawrence County." more
Most Marshall County fans won't soon forget the Tigers’ heartbreaking seven-point loss to Cascade last season on Pink Out Night where the outcome was heavily influenced by questionable refereeing, which ultimately resulted in several ejections and a two-game suspension for MCHS coach Arnett Bodenhamer in the thick of district play. more
The Forrest Rockets have lost five District 9A games in a row, but three of them have been close setbacks, including a heartbreaking 55-51 loss to Huntland Tuesday night at Chapel Hill. "It seems like those guys fight so hard and not to get rewarded is tough to swallow,” Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. “I seem to be saying the same postgame remarks the last three games. ‘Keep your head up, you have nothing to be ashamed of, we just have to persevere and keep trucking on learning from our mistakes and at some point the ball will bounce our way’.” more
