The Marshall County Tigers welcomed Page to Joe George Field on Wednesday for a District 12AA doubleheader, looking to add to a two-game winning streak after losing five straight to start the season. Brayden Gentry started on the mound for Tigers and took a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning before the Patriots tacked on two runs, but Gentry retired the last batter for a 3-2 win to give MCHS its third win in a row. "Well first of all, we had outstanding pitching and outstanding defense," MCHS coach Mike “Monk” Reese said. "That was just tremendous defense and good pitching. Good baseball out of everybody.” more
Although the CMS Lady Bulldogs (11-8) have already participated in its post-season tournament for the Maury County Conference, Cornersville welcomed Richland to town Tuesday night for a makeup double-header. The feeder programs for two highly successful high school teams were expected to engage in a tight battle, but the Lady Bulldogs won an easy 9-0 contest in just four innings in the first game of the twin bill. more
After a tough 3-1 loss on Tuesday at Grace Christian School-Franklin (GCA), the Cornersville Bulldogs returned home on Wednesday where they squandered a three-run lead in an 8-6 loss to the Lions. “We had a chance there to really take a step forward, but we let it slip away,” Cornersville coach Ben Putnam said. “We just didn’t have enough to close it out.” more

For the second week in a row, the Monday road game of a home and away series for Forrest was rained out and just like Eagleville last week, it paid off once again on Tuesday as the Rockets hosted Moore County and won 7-1. “Baseball is a series, we have Moore County again tomorrow night and I told the boys you can’t take any game for granted,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “You have to show up and play every day, especially these district games where you have to play it like it’s the most important game at that moment.” more

The Cornersville Bulldogs and Mt. Pleasant Tigers were set to end the two-game series on Tuesday night, but Mother Nature had other plans, forcing games across the Mid-State to be canceled behind a powerful set of storms pushing across Tennessee. When the action resumed on Wednesday night at Mt. Pleasant, the Tigers looked like a different team that lost 12-2 against the Bulldogs on Monday, leading 1-0 until the fifth inning and taking a tie into the seventh before Cornersville tacked on three runs to get the 4-1 win. more
Executing the little stuff in a baseball games usually results in a victory. The Forrest Rockets proved the age old adage, playing an almost flawless game Wednesday night at Chapel Hill to capture an exciting 1-0 win over District 9A rival Eagleville. A Jaylen Smith suicide squeeze bunt with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning was the final little thing Forrest did right to secure the win. “I was thinking because I went 0-for-3 the first three times, I was destined to get a hit the fourth time,” Smith said. “Coach told me that we were going to see what he did the first pitch and we were going to do the squeeze the second pitch.” more
After a 1-0 battle won by Forrest on Tuesday at Chapel Hill, the Rockets traveled to Eagleville to make up a game postponed from Monday and it turned into a war as the two District 9A rivals clashed for 13 innings before Forrest came out on top 4-2. “I don’t know what you can say about that, it’s like this game right here if you win, you should get two district wins,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “It’s just two great ball teams that didn’t want to give up.” “Luckily, we scratched a couple of runs across in the top of the thirteenth to get the job done.” more

It's been over a decade since the Bulldogs have started out a season with three straight district losses and after losing the season opening series to Culleoka by a combined two runs last week, Cornersville needed a win over Mt. Pleasant on Monday night to avoid a 0-3 start in District 11A. And taking two big wins over Wayne County in a doubleheader last Thursday, the Bulldogs continued their winning ways with a 12-2 romp over the Tigers. "The first two games against Culleoka we struggled to hit and to get on base, but the last three games we've really hit better," Cornersville coach Ben Putnam stated. "I think we've gotten better. The first couple of games were cold, rough." more
The Lewisburg Middle School softball team welcomed Lincoln County Middle School to town on Friday night with a chance to end the season with just three losses in sixteen games, but despite roaring back from a 6-1 deficit heading into the fourth inning to send the game into extra innings the Eagles prevailed 8-6 in eight innings. "With this being the end of the year I just told them you've got to learn from games like that because those are the games that great teams win," LMS coach Hannah Osteen stated. "Somebody has got to be willing to step up and make the play and we just didn't do that. And (Lincoln County) had some great batters and great hits." more
Anytime two teams within the same county get together with any sport the contest is usually a hard fought game until the final whistle as evidenced by the tight 4-2 match won by Marshall County over Forrest during the regular season in 2016. That wasn't the case on Thursday night as the Tigers took a 6-0 lead into the half before finishing off the Rockets 12-0 in a surprisingly non-competitive match in Chapel Hill between the two schools situated just over 16 miles apart. "We actually have quite an older team," Forrest coach Nicole Pickle said. "We have about 10 seniors coming back from last season, so this was kind of a tough loss for us because we had high hopes for this game and unfortunately it didn't go as planned." more
After a tough 4-3 opening season loss at Community on Wednesday, the Forrest Rockets bounced back with a big 5-0 shutout win over the Vikings at Chapel Hill on Thursday. “They bounced back great and that’s what we have to do,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “Baseball is a long season and you have those games, but they came back good and when we got the lead tonight they maintained it and kept it rolling.” Ethan Mealer, who picked up the loss with some late inning wildness at Community showed some strong resiliency as he started on the mound on Thursday and tossed 4.1 innings of shutout ball, giving up three hits, striking out six and walking five batters to pick of the win. more

St. Patrick's Day was celebrated a little early in Eagleville on Friday night as Lewisburg Middle School donned its holiday inspired green jerseys in a battle against the Eagles on a frigid Rutherford County night. But the Tigers did not need the luck of the Irish on this night, scoring five third inning runs to win going away 10-1. "Well just like most of the year, our pitching was solid once again," LMS coach Beau Hardison said. "We aren't where we need to be yet, but we're getting there." more
