Cornersville and Columbia Academy battle annually for supremacy in District 11A and Monday night was no different as the two Bulldog squads met in southern Marshall County with unbeaten conference records.
The first of two regular season match-ups between the teams was a classic as both pitchers engaged in a duel with Columbia Academy coming out on top with a 3-2 extra inning win.
"Couple of mistakes in the field, that was about it," CHS coach Eric Crabtree stated. "I think we hit almost even with them. Take away a few errors and we're in that game."

The Forrest Lady Rockets are mowing opponents down.
The latest dominating performance by Forrest was at the Brentwood Invitational on Friday and Saturday where they went 6-0 to claim the title.
“I think the girls were tired this weekend, but they made a huge push to accomplish another goal which is tremendous for us,” Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said. “The game experience and the ability to push through when they were tired will be assets for us when we get into make-up games and tournament play.”

As if having the defending 2A state champion (Spring Hill) isn't hard enough to deal with, Marshall County finished the second of a two-game series against 2A runner-up and 2015 state champion CPA on Tuesday night.
Behind the strong arm and hot bat of Brayden Gentry, the Tigers took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third and a 3-2 lead into the fourth before the Lions took the lead in the fifth inning and went on to win 11-3 following a five-run seventh.

The Rockets lost the first game 8-5 when the Cougars scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 5-5 tie.
MTCS scored three runs in the first inning, but FMS came back with one run in the bottom of the inning and three more in the second to take a 4-1 lead.
The Cougars plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but once again the Rockets came back to tie with a single tally in the home half of the frame.

The mark of a good team is finding a way to win even though not clicking on all cylinders.
The Forrest Lady are a really good team and they showed it Tuesday night at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill, defeating a pesky Spring Hill squad 5-1.
Forrest was coming off a huge weekend where they won the very difficult Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association Tournament at Ridley Park in Columbia and it seemed like they had some rust versus the Lady Raiders.

As the one of the best seasons in recent memory for Lewisburg Middle School (18-3) winds down, the Tigers traveled a short distance down the road to take on Cornersville Middle School on a rare Saturday afternoon game.
And much like the rest of the Tigers 17 wins, LMS dominated the Bulldogs from the pitcher’s mound as Logan McKnight threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball and Carson Cheek finished off the game for the 10-0 win.
"We've kind of got a little momentum," LMS coach Beau Hardison said. "Yesterday we played a double header against Columbia Academy (both wins) and we had 23-24 hits in the two games."

The Marshall County Tigerettes faced stiff competition two weeks ago at the Southern Warrior Classic in Murfreesboro, playing three games against three 3A teams that had played in the state tournament within the past five years.
Friday night at the Zaxby's Invitational in Clarksville offered little reprieve with another 3A matchup against Springfield in the tournament opener.
Marshall County was clicking on all cylinders on this night, beating the Yellow Jackets 6-0 behind a strong pitching performance from Marlee Woodard and great defense by the starting nine.

The Forrest Lady Rockets (16-1, 4-0) are off to their best start since winning the school’s second Class A state championship in the 2014-2015 season when they won 14 consecutive games to start the campaign and finished with a 35-5 record.
Forrest won 12 straight games to start this season before losing 6-3 to 3A Lawrence County in a Saturday morning pool game at the Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association Tournament at Ridley Park in Columbia last weekend.
Undeterred, the Lady Rockets came back to sweep Centennial, Creek Wood, and Stewarts Creek before getting revenge on Lawrence County in the title game, shutting out the Lady Wildcats 5-0 to win the tournament.

Lewisburg’s William J. Mitchell passed away on January 9, just a few months short of his induction into the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s (TSSAA) Hall of Fame Class of 2017.
The 35th Annual event took place at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Murfreesboro Saturday afternoon where family members of Mitchell came from all over the country to honor a man who officiated football and basketball for over 50 years.
“My dad was such a humble person he would of course be honored, but he wouldn’t make a big deal of it because this was his everyday thing of just contributing to the community and his family, especially his TSSAA family that he loved,” Mitchell’s daughter, Jerrie Henry said.

After playing five games in three days against top notch competition, the road did not get any easier for the MCHS Tigerettes in the final game of the Southern Warrior Classic against 2015 State AAA champion Wilson Central at Barfield Park.
The Tigerettes went into the top of the third down just 1-0, but the Lady Wildcats scored seven runs in the inning before winning 11-0 in five innings.
"We definitely played very hard competition (at the Southern Warrior Classic)," MCHS Heather Denton. "In the long run it will make us better. Better competition will only prepare us for district play."

Marshall County coach Heather Denton put together a brutal early season schedule for the Tigerettes, opening the season was reigning District 12AA champion Cascade, who finished the 2015-2016 season with its first section berth in over 20 years.
The Tigerettes then traveled to Murfreesboro for the annual Southern Warrior Classic hosted by Riverdale High School spread out over a week at various locations across the city, including Barfield Park where Marshall County lost an 11-3 contest to Cleburne County (12-7), a 4A school from eastern Alabama near the Georgia border.

The MCHS Tigers have suffered through several early season setbacks, including a close six-run loss to defending 2A champion and currently undefeated Spring Hill (12-0), a 2-1 setback to one-loss Decatur County-Riverside (5-1), who haven't given up more than two runs in a game this season, and an excruciating 2-1 loss to District 12AA rival Giles County.
Two days after a second loss to Giles County, the Tigers finally picked up their first win over the season via a 17-0 thumping against Hume-Fogg which gave Marshall County its groove back as evidenced in the 8-7 win over perennial 3A powerhouse Tullahoma.

The Page Patriots (1-9, 1-5) and the MCHS Tigers took a little time to warm up before going forth with the second game of a doubleheader, featuring Patriot ace and MTSU commitment Payton Wiggington and Tiger pitcher Nathan Derryberry, who picked up a tough win over a strong Tullahoma team on Friday.
Derryberry got the best against the Patriot pitcher, getting out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the first inning and going five scoreless innings, before being replaced by Brett McGehee in the sixth as the Tigers (4-5, 2-4) won 5-2 to pick up their fourth win in a row.
