For six innings on Sunday afternoon, the Marshall County Tigerettes outplayed Spring Hill in the opening round of the District 12AA Tournament. Unfortunately for the Tigerettes, the one inning they lost was a frame in which the Raiders batted around in the lineup and put a mind boggling nine runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth to win the contest 9-4 and knock Marshall County down to the loser’s bracket on Tuesday night. "Well we had, I believe, four errors (in the fourth inning)," MCHS coach Heather Denton pointed out. "And when we do not catch the ball or we do not make a play, then they are going to score and they got hits after that, so errors is what led to the loss." more
The Marshall County Tigers had the unenviable task of having to beat a surging Page squad for the third time this season to move on to the winner’s bracket of the 12AA District Tournament. After starting off the season 1-11, including a pair of losses to the Tigers, the Patriots entered the tournament winners of seven of its last nine games before tacking on one more with a 12-6 win over Marshall County (13-13) on Saturday. more
Forrest (20-10-1) picked up win number 20 on the season and it was a big one as the top-seeded Rockets erased an early deficit and then hung for a 5-4 win over Eagleville in a District 9A Tournament winner’s bracket contest at Chapel Hill Monday night. Jordan Jent saved the day for the Rockets, coming to the mound for a struggling Ethan Mealer in the fifth inning. Jent earned his second save of the season, pitching the final 2.1 innings and the senior also knocked in the eventual go-ahead run with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. more

All good things must come to an end and for the Tigerettes that meant a 4-0 loss to Page (15-9-1, 8-3) to end the regular season and put a halt to Marshall County's five-game winning streak. Base runners were at a premium for Marshall County (10-16, 4-8), as the Tigerettes managed only one hit against Page senior pitcher Kacie Scott and just one other batter reached on a Lady Patriots’ error. more
Forrest senior hurler Jordan Jent picked up his fifth win of the season against one loss when he tossed six superb shutout innings of one-hit ball on the mound in an 8-0 win over Cascade on Tuesday’s Senior Night at Chapel Hill. “It was a big senior night for us and these seniors are a great group of kids and they have worked hard all season and this was their night to shine and they did with the big 8-0 victory,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “It was a great night for them, I’m happy for them, I’m proud of them and we just want to carry this on to the end of the week here.” more
Marshall County High School continued its long tradition of sending players into the college ranks last week when senior pitcher Brayden Gentry signed on the dotted line to play baseball at Motlow State Community College in the 2018 season. "We have been very successful at getting players ready to play at the next level in the past 40 years," Tiger coach Mike "Monk" Reese stated. "I have forgotten how many players have played at the next level, but there have been many." Gentry, who was also recruited by Middle Tennessee State University and the University of North Alabama, stood out in a district loaded with talent and which produced last season’s 2A state champion (Spring Hill) and state runner-up (CPA) while helping the Tigers win over 58 games over the past four seasons. more

Two red hot soccer teams met on a chilly, windy Spring night as Marshall County traveled to Cascade for a game that decided fourth place in District 12 A/AA. The Tigers, winners of six-of-seven games, including an upset win over third place Nolensville on Friday, met a Champions team that had won three games in a row. The Tigers held a 1-0 lead for the majority of the contest and dominated shots on goal, but couldn't add to its lead before the Champions tied the game with less than 10 minutes left in the second half to garner a 1-1 draw. more
After sweeping host Coffee County and Covington Friday night to get to the 30-win mark on the season, the illness ridden Forrest Lady Rockets dropped two games on Saturday at the Coffee County Classic in Manchester. “The tournament should have helped us realize that we can be beaten when we don't play well,” Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said. “As I told the girls, I believe coaches and players were all disappointed, but if we use Saturday to motivate us going forward, then we should benefit from being there.” more
The Marshall County Tigerettes notched their fifth straight win in the intra-county rivalry series with Cornersville, beating the Lady Bulldogs 5-2 Thursday night at Frog Bottom. “It was a huge ballgame, you could tell there was a lot of pride there,” MCHS coach Heather Denton said. “They wanted to win that game and you tell with all the tension in the stands, everybody was in the game and everyone wanted their team to win.” more
Anytime two schools that are located less than 10 miles apart get together in any sport the competition is stiff. But Friday night, two historically superior softball squads went head-to-head as Cornersville (12-5) and Marshall County (9-15) squared off for the second night in a row in Lewisburg with the Tigerettes coming out on top in an anticlimactic 12-3 win. more
Sometimes, those big games just don’t turn out to be as exciting as anticipated. That was not the case Monday night at the Field of Dreams when the Lady Hornets travelled to Chapel Hill for a re-match of a highly confrontational game won by Forrest 3-2 at Huntland on April, 20. The Lady Rockets, coming off back-to-back losses on Saturday in the Coffee County Classic were ready as always and played one of their best games of the season in a 4-1 win over the Lady Hornets. more
After dropping a disappointing 13-9 contest at home versus Lewis County on Tuesday, the Marshall County Tigers were back in action two days later to play host to 3A Coffee County with the regular season winding down. While the Tigers could not muster much offense against the Panthers on Tuesday, the blue and white jumped all over the Raiders from the get-go, taking a 7-1 lead after three innings and used the dominant pitching from senior Brayden Gentry to maintain same final score. more
Lewis County (13-11) on Tuesday night, the first of six non-conference games in a row to end the regular season. But before competition started the Tigers held a special event, allowing Ayden Orr, a local child recently diagnosed with a unique form of epilepsy, throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Joe George Field. When the game started, the Panthers jumped out fast and often on the Tigers (12-10), taking an 11-1 lead into the fifth before the Tigers added eight runs in the final two innings to turn a blowout into a close 13-9 setback. more
The Forrest Rockets wrapped up their fourth consecutive District 9A regular season title with back-to-back wins over Huntland Monday and Tuesday. “We are really proud of the players, but winning the season district is just the first step and the guys are focused and ready to go the second, which is the district tournament,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “But, we are really proud of what they have accomplished thus far in the season. This is a big accomplishment for the program.” The Rockets scratched out a big 3-2 win at Huntland on Monday as Jonathan Lykins picked up the win on the mound with six solid innings of work before Jordan Jent came on for the save. more
