In the end, Fayetteville senior Brandon Moore was too much for Forrest to handle as the standout Tiger running back wore the Rockets down in a 27-14 non-region loss Friday night at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill.
“We knew they were a good football team and we knew 22 (Moore) was going to get his,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. “We needed to bottle him up and in the second half, we didn’t.”
Knowing it didn’t help as Forrest could not stop Moore, who rushed for 208 yards on 25 carries with two touchdown runs, including an 86-yard third quarter scamper.

The Cornersville Bulldogs were a mere four points away from starting the 2016 season out 6-0 after two last minute, heartbreaking losses (Mount Juliet Christian three points, Collinwood one point) in back-to-back games.
The element of surprise is not an option for the Bulldogs (1-1) in 2017 as the program has been a fashionable preseason pick to win its first ever region championship and has quickly gone from being the hunter to the hunted.

The Marshall County Tigers righted the ship in a hurry after an opening season loss to Cane Ridge, walloping Shelbyville Central 51-27 Friday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg.
“Winning is hard and something we are never going to take for granted,” Marshall County coach Thomas Osteen said. “So we are no doubt going to enjoy every win that we get because we work too hard not to.”
The Tigers and the Golden Eagles put on an offensive display as the two teams combined for 815 yards of total offense.

This should be an exciting Friday night under the stadium lights for the three Marshall County football squads with the Marshall County Tigers and Forrest Rockets looking to bounce back from home losses, while the Cornersville Bulldogs are hoping to move to 2-0 for the first time since 2007.
The Bulldogs are loaded with upperclassmen talent and it was on a bright display last week when they pounded the Community Vikings 55-14 at Frog Bottom.
“The guys were very excited about the win on Friday Night against Community,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “A bunch of guys stepped up and did some really good things on the field that night.”

For 30 minutes on Thursday night, the Marshall County Tigerettes (0-1, 0-1) were the team to beat in a season opening district matchup versus new district opponent Tullahoma (1-1, 1-1).
But with just under eight remaining in the opening half, the floodgates opened up when Wildcat junior Julia Duncan scored three straight goals in the span of 40 seconds for a 3-1 advantage and the flurry of scores proved to be too much on the young Tigerettes and Tullahoma coasted the rest of the way through the contest for an 8-1 win.

Forrest opened the 2017 season at home versus five-time state champion and Division II powerhouse Battle Ground Academy (BGA) Friday night at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill and the Rockets let some early opportunities slip away, leading to a 48-19 loss.
“We started the game fast, just like we wanted to,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. “We should have been up 21-0 to start the game and we just had a few miscues early on and once we got down, we never could recover.”

In a scene that has almost become routine for Friday nights in Lewisburg during football season, an excess of media, including Rudy Kalis and his trusty Channel 4 helicopter, made the trek to Marshall County for the season opening marquee matchup between the Tigers and 6A Cane Ridge.
While the majority of the media picked a runaway victory by the Antioch school, the Ravens (1-0) needed a late touchdown in the final minutes to break a tie and escape Lewisburg with a win over perhaps the toughest team to beat at home in Class 4A.

The Cornersville Bulldogs started the 2017 campaign in style, blasting the Community Vikings 55-14 at Frog Bottom Friday night.
“I was very happy to start the season off with a good win,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “The guys came out focused and battled to the last whistle.”
“The previous two years we had suffered some tough losses in our first game of the year, and so it was exciting to start off on a positive note this year.”
Cornersville wasted little time putting the Vikings on the wrong end of the scoreboard as they scored 21 first quarter points.

Tailgates. Pep rallies. Friday night lights. The new school year is here! And that’s exciting news for student-athletes and high school sports fans alike.
Research shows that being a student-athlete is about a lot more than fun and games. It teaches important life lessons, too. In fact, high school athletes not only have higher grade point averages and fewer school absences than non-athletes, they also develop the kind of work habits and self-discipline skills that help them become more responsible and productive community members.

Football officially arrived in Marshall County on Thursday night as new LMS head coach Beau Hardison opened up with longtime conference rival Whitthorne from Maury County after picking a 7-0 win over Liberty in the preseason jamboree the previous weekend.
The new look Tigers sent a message from the outset that they would be a force to be reckoned with in the Big South Conference as the blue and white aired it out and took a 12-0 lead against a team that had routed the Lewisburg team with ease the previous two seasons.

After a washout on Friday, the Forrest Rockets hosted Giles County and RePublic in three quarters of Jamboree action on Saturday night at Murrey. E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill.
The Rockets’ varsity came up with a close win over 3A perennial playoff powerhouse Giles County in the first quarter and Chapel Hill came back in the third quarter to defeat the Nashville based RePublic Trail Blazers.
“The challenge to the team tonight was to come out and be physical early, we got out-physicaled at Trousdale County and that doesn’t happen to us a lot,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. “The last two Friday nights the team has come out and earned that physical respect back.”
