When you’re thinking about children with cancer, some of the things we think are overstatedly important seem small and the everyday enjoyments such as playing sports are brought into a higher perspective. The Forrest Lady Rockets and Community Viqueens played for those children Tuesday night at the Lions Club Memorial Field in Chapel Hill with the proceeds of the game and donations going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The game was a part of the Team Up for St. Jude Spirited by Varsity - Game Day Program, in conjunction with the Health Occupations Student Organization (HOSA) Future Health Professionals at Forrest School. more

The Forrest Rockets had victory in their hands for the entire ballgame at Watertown Friday night until the Purple Tigers scored with 26 seconds left and converted a 2-point conversion to win 8-6. “They are very disappointed, but as usual they will pick themselves up and move forward,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. more
To be the best you have to beat the best and Marshall County put that theory to the test on Friday night with a trip inside the heart of north Nashville against perennial state powerhouse Pearl-Cohn (4-2). For a brief moment, the Tigers looked to have pulled of the near impossible of beating the Firebirds on homecoming when Marshall County quarterback Bryce Wallace hit wide receiver Devon Wilson on a 15-yard slant pass for a touchdown with 2:16 remaining in the fourth quarter for a 24-21 lead. more
After last week’s 20-12 loss at Moore County dropped Cornersville Middle School (CMS) to an even 3-3 on the season, the Bulldogs came up big for Homecoming with a 28-14 come from behind win over Blanche Thursday night at Frog Bottom. “We didn’t really know what the game plan was going to be because we had never seen them before, we didn’t even know what color uniforms they had,” CMS coach Ray Stocstill said. “They really gave us a good battle and it was a hard fought game and you could say that both teams had an opportunity to win because of how hard they played.” more
The Cornersville Bulldogs finished off a three-game home stand in style Friday night, walloping Perry County 45-0 on homecoming at Frog Bottom. “We talked a lot about not losing our focus,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “We want you to enjoy homecoming, but at the end of the day there is a football game that has to be played.” Cornersville has won four games in a row and are off to their first 5-1 mark to start a season since 2007. more

After a couple of weeks of banging helmets with region opponents that set the stage for the second half of the season, Week 6 is full of non-region games for all three Marshall County football programs. The Cornersville Bulldogs may be a surprise to many outside of the area and not getting any respect from the pollsters or pundits, but inside Frog Bottom the team is full of confidence and believe that they are now the favorites to win Region 5A, even if they don’t want to trumpet it. more

The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs took a break from district action with a trip to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee Christian School for a rare Monday night contest. The Bulldogs found the Cougars (1-8-3), who finished last season with 10 wins and a district semifinal appearance in 1A, experiencing growing pains in its first season at the D-IIA level, having scored just three goals in its past nine games and only 13 scores in 12 total contests. more

The Forrest Rockets shot themselves in the foot Friday night in a tough Region 5A 14-6 loss at Columbia Academy. It was an even game as far as the competition on the field, but the Rockets gave the game away, failing to score twice inside the CA 5-yard line, missing a short field goal, and committing some really untimely penalties. “This feels like a broken record,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. “This is the fourth time this year with penalties, penalties, penalties, penalties and not being disciplined.” more
The Cornersville Bulldogs got knocked in the mouth early before turning it in on for a huge 42-20 comeback win versus Region 5A foe Mt. Pleasant at Frog Bottom Friday night. “We knew we were facing adversity in this game,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “These guys are hungry. Winning, it feels good to them. They willed their way to a win.” It was the third win in a row for the Bulldogs (4-1, 3-0), who took over the top spot in the region standings after seventh-ranked Fayetteville (4-1, 2-1) suffered an unpleasant 26-21 loss at Moore County. more
Marshall defensive coordinator Jerry Cobb spoke volumes with just one sentence following the Tigers (3-1, 2-0) contest with Maplewood on Friday night. "We got our first shutout of the season tonight," Cobb said. "It may have been just one half, but we'll take it." After giving up more points in the first three games of the season (89) than the Tigers allowed during the entire 2016 regular season (79), the blue and white defense that opponents have come to know and fear made a big comeback against Maplewood (3-2, 1-1) on Friday, holding the Panthers scoreless in the second half en route to a huge 26-12 region 4/4A win. more
