After going undefeated in 2015 and winning the Duck River Valley Conference (DRVC) title, Forrest Middle School has been in an all-out battle with Fayetteville Middle School for the last two seasons. The two squads have been the class of the DRVC over the two campaigns with the Rockets only four losses coming at the hands of the Tigers, who came into Monday night’s DRVC title game at Fayetteville riding a 17-game unbeaten streak. The Rockets had a game plan, stop Fayetteville’s standout running back Graham Pace. more
The Marshall County Tigers grabbed a stranglehold on the Region 4-4A top spot with a tough 34-27 win over Spring Hill (4-4, 2-2) Friday night at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg. “We were down 14-7 at halftime and we talked about doing a bunch of good things on offense, but we kind of punished ourselves,” MCHS coach Thomas Osteen said. “We talked about starting the second half fast and boy we did.” The Tigers (6-2, 4-0) kept their 15-game region winning streak alive and can claim a third consecutive region crown with a Maplewood (5-3, 2-1) win at Nolensville (3-5, 2-1) on Friday night. more

Rhett Woodard had a huge game, rushing for 177 and four touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who trailed 12-0 in the contest before scoring 38 unanswered points versus their namesakes from Ardmore. more
With both Forrest and Cornersville on a bye week, all eyes will be on the Marshall County Tigers this week when they host Spring Hill (4-3, 2-1) tonight at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg. Marshall County (5-2, 3-0) showed some true grit last week as they turned a 21-21 halftime score into a huge 48-28 win over archrival Giles County. more
The Forrest Rockets (2-6, 2-3) broke a three-game losing streak and remained in the Region 6/2A playoff race via a big 56-26 win over Loretto (2-5, 0-3) on Senior Night Friday at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill. “That was a great, great, great way to send these seniors out,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. “They are a good senior class and they needed that tonight.” The Rockets can clinch a berth in the postseason with a win at Community on October 27. more
Even without the services of two suspended seniors on the defensive line and an injured Eli Woodard, the Cornersville Bulldogs walloped Richland 56-20 Friday night in Frog Bottom to capture the school’s first-ever region title. “Honestly, it feels awesome, but for different reasons,” Cornersville coach Gerard Randolph said. “I am so proud and happy for this group of young men that were able to accomplish this goal this year. I can't take all the credit for this region championship. I have a really good coaching staff that works very hard, and a football team that works very hard also.” more
Forrest Middle School and Lewisburg Middle School met in an intra-county rivalry Thursday night in Chapel Hill and after trailing early, the Rockets came back for a big 32-18 win. “It was a great game, it was fun and that’s what you play for, games like that,” FMS coach Corey Searcy said. “It showed a lot of character by our guys and more than anything, it shows what our workout program is all about---I think that’s what won the game.” more
Heading into the District 11-AA Soccer Tournament with no wins within the conference, the MCHS Tigerettes had the unenviable task of taking on first place Page on Thursday night, just over a month after the Patriots beat Marshall County 9-0 on an early mercy-rule contest. But one of Marshall County coach Mark Redferrin's stronger points is being able to implement a strong playoff plan as evidenced by a near upset against Spring Hill (1-0) in 2016. more
For the first time in a long time, the Marshall County Tigers (5-2) and Bobcats met in the regular season with no region title hopes on the line as the Bobcats (4-3) dropped down to 3A for the 2017 season. But region game or not, when Marshall and Giles get together in any sport the game will be intense and the stands will be packed as the two longtime rivals sit just under 24 miles apart down US 31-A. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs opened up the District 6-A/AA tournament at Community on Tuesday night as the big time underdog, having lost 7-3 against the Viqueens (5-5-2) just under a month ago. Cornersville (2-8-2) did more than just embrace the role, keeping the home team on its heels until two goals in less than a minute with under 13 minutes remaining finally put the Lady Bulldogs away by a 3-0 score. "We had more confidence coming into this game than the last time we played against them," sophomore Sydney Downs stated. "Our passing has gotten better throughout the season and we learned to play better as a team." more
It took two days to decide the outcome of the District 6A Soccer Tournament opener between fifth-seeded Forrest and number-four Fayetteville, who prevailed 3-2 on overtime penalty kicks. Some logistical school bus issues caused the Lady Rockets to arrive just in the nick of time for the opening kickoff at Don Davidson Park Field in Fayetteville Tuesday. more

The FMS Rockets (6-1) secured a spot in the Duck River Valley Conference title game with a big 44-6 homecoming win Thursday night at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill. “It was a big win for us, it was a crazy week with homecoming and a lot of activities, but we won and that’s the main thing,” Forrest coach Corey Searcy said. more
Are you sure there wasn’t a full moon shining over Chapel Hill Friday night? It seemed like it in a weird game as the Rockets turned the ball over seven times and had two false start penalties deep in the opponent’s territory that prevented them from scoring, yet they still had a chance to upset region leading Lewis County (7-0, 4-0). “Same old story,” Forrest coach Brent Johns said. “It would be hard to beat anybody with seven turnovers, especially the first place team in the region.” But in the end, the Rockets’ misfires were just too much to overcome as the seventh-ranked Wildcats escaped Murrey E. Holton Field with a 21-7 win, extending Forrest’s losing streak to five games. more
Following an emotional, last minute loss in Nashville last Friday to Pearl-Cohn, a Thursday night contest against a fading Lawrence County (2-5, 0-3) squad was just what the doctor ordered for Marshall County (4-2, 3-0). In a game that featured little drama, the Tigers jumped out to a 21-0 halftime edge and got the younger players lots of reps in the second half as the leaders in 4-4A cruised to a 59-0 win. "I was proud that we took care of business on a short week," Tiger coach Thomas Osteen stated. "I was very happy we started the game fast. I love the fact that we created four turnovers on defense and blocked a punt." "In addition we had zero turnovers on offense," Osteen continued. "Anytime you can be plus four in the turnover margin you are going to give yourself a great chance to win." more
Any lingering questions as to whether the Cornersville Bulldogs were true contenders and a legitimate threat to make a run at the 1A title were answered emphatically Friday during a primetime showdown against seventh-ranked Fayetteville (5-2, 3-2). The Tigers, in just its fourth year competing in varsity football, had compiled a 14-2 region record the past two years and have made at least the second round of the TSSAA playoffs in three of its four years of existence with a quarterfinal appearance in its first year. more
