By the time midday hits southern Marshall County on Friday, Cornersville should take on the characteristics of a ghost town as their beloved Bulldogs play in its first-ever state final football game at 11 a.m. in Cookeville at the Tennessee Tech University football stadium against Greenback.
The two schools are almost identical in everything, except playoff experience.
The Loudon County Cherokees post a population of 1,119 and a high school enrollment of 234 students.
However, the Cherokees have an all-time playoff record of 38-24 with three state final appearances.

For the third season in a row the Marshall County Tigers were on the cusp of a state finals berth, but once again it was not to be as the two-time state champion Greeneville Greene Devils handed MCHS a 49-24 season ending loss.
“It was a great season and I couldn’t be more proud to be the coach at Marshall County High School,” Marshall County coach Thomas Osteen said. “Four years ago these seniors consented to a young head coach who didn’t know much at all and fours later to see what we have accomplished is impressive.”

For the first time this season the rest of the state's media learned what Cornersville followers have known since this summer--the Bulldogs are no fluke.
If anyone needed more convincing after the Bulldogs (13-1) took down undefeated and Class A favorite Huntingdon (12-1) the previous week, Cornersville sent home another longtime state power Lake County (11-2) by the score of 7-0 after a nail biting finish.
The Bulldogs turned the ball over to the Falcons with under two minutes left in the contest and for the first time all night, Lake County was able to drive down the field inside the Bulldogs 20-yard line.

One of the most exciting aspects of watching a tiny, rural 1A football squad make a deep run in the TSSAA playoffs is watching the town come together to show support to the team and watch history in the making.
That was never more evident that on Friday night when seemingly the whole town of Cornersville showed up to Frog Bottom to watch the Bulldogs continue its historic playoff run with a resounding 52-15 win over Grace Christian Academy-Franklin (6-5) and continue on to the quarterfinals.

LEWISBURG — Going into Friday night's second-round match up of the TSSAA playoffs, Marshall County coach Thomas Osteen knew his talented Tigers offense and the Spring Hill rushing attack would pile up the yards.
But on a night with two powerful offenses set on a collision course, it was perhaps two defensive stands and a bit of luck on special teams that punched the Tigers' ticket to the third round of the playoffs.

Spring Hill (6-5), Maplewood (8-3), and Marshall County (8-3) took care of business by a whopping combined score of 108-14 with the Tigers’ 42-0 win over DeKalb County being the biggest margin of victory.
