After winning seven games in a row to start the season, the Marshall County Tigerettes suffered two losses in succession, including a hard fought 46-43 setback to Class 1A Huntland Friday night at Dottie Kelso Memorial Gymnasium in Lewisburg.
“It was a close game, maybe the fans enjoyed it, but I can’t say I did, we were pretty much behind the whole game,” MCHS coach David Steely said. ‘We had our chances, but we had too many turnovers and too many bad basketball plays.”

After winning five straight games in the phone booth at Summertown, the Forrest Lady Rockets have lost four in a row, including a 65-50 road loss Friday night.
“Summertown is a very good team, they jumped on us quick and started the game on a 17-4 run,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “We had to burn two timeouts in the first six minutes to try to stay in the game.”
The Lady Eagles went on to build their lead to 32-10 in the second quarter, but Forrest came back to outscore Summertown the remainder of the game, something that gave much solace to Jean.

The bad taste of the one-win season in 2015-16 was wiped out under new coach Matt Hagan with an eight-win 2016-17 that featured a near .500 (6-8) district mark and a unexpected push to the region tournament.
The Bulldogs beat a Grace Christian-Franklin team by 19 points in the opening round of the district tournament after the Lions thumped Cornersville just over a week earlier by 22 points.
The Bulldogs also played the then top-ranked 1A team in the state, Richland to the brink before falling by just eight points.
This year expectations are quite higher.

Tigerettes ready to move up
One of the most proud and historically dominant programs in the state made a big time comeback last season as the Tigerettes bounced back from a program low, one-win season in 2015-16 with a 13-15 record and region tournament berth under coach David Steely’s second go-around as head coach.
If not for three season ending injuries to prominent players during the district tournament the Tigerettes might have made a deeper run.

“Last night was a tough loss to swallow,” Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. “We gave ourselves a chance and we didn't finish.”
“We tried to get an ISO with a player on the wing and we just didn't execute what we had in place to run.”

The Forrest Lady Rockets are off to a solid 2017 campaign, sporting a 6-2 record after blasting McEwen 56-36 Tuesday night at Chapel Hill.
“I am very pleased with where we are sitting record wise, anytime you can get some wins early it is a good thing,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “And in our two loses, if we do a few of the little things better we could have been in the games late with a chance to win.”
Forrest has won four in a row and seems to have a nice mix on the court this season after the loss of several key players from last year.

Lady Rockets looking for big things in 2017
It is always tough to lose two franchise players like Caitlyn Yost and Kyleah Hengesbach but lose two high-caliber players and make the move from 1A to 2A would be a tall challenge for any coach.
But one thing Forrest coach Jeremy Jean doesn't lack is confidence and after playing in possibly one of the toughest 1A districts in the state the past four years, the move to 2A might be easier than one might think.
