Forrest finally got the reward they were looking for as their hard work and dedication paid off Tuesday in Chapel Hill as the Rockets beat Giles County 62-47 in the District 12-AA opener for both teams. “That’s why we went out and played all those good teams before this,” Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. “I didn’t want them to step out on the floor tonight and have not seen this, we have seen this and we have seen this at the highest level, so I’m very proud.” more
The Forrest Rockets have a great basketball tradition, playing on the hardwood for a century. Nolensville, just a third-year high school, doesn’t. The Knights came to Chapel Hill Thursday night for a District 12-AA contest and took the Rockets for granted and disrespected them. more
After losing in a blowout the previous night to a tall and athletic Giles County squad, the Cornersville Bulldogs (2-9) faced another stiff test from another bigger school with an impressive early season resume in White House (10-6). The Blue Devils’ all-out press confused the Bulldogs at first, but Cornersville came roaring back from an early double digit deficit to tie the game late in the first quarter and hang around for the majority of the second period, but the Blue Devils superior depth and athleticism ultimately doomed the boys from Frog Bottom in a 96-54 loss. more
fter a tough loss to Marshall County the previous day, Cornersville coach Peyton Newton expected his team to come out ready to jump right back into competitive play against another 2A opponent in the last game before district play starts. While the team did not jump on the Murfreesboro Central Magnet Lady Tigers (3-8) like Newton would have liked, the Lady Dawgs took control during the second half to pick up a nice win over a larger opponent, 46-35. more
Just 11 days after the Tigerettes beat Culleoka by 27 points at home and less than 24 hours after knocking off Cornersville in the nightcap of the Richland Christmas Tournament, Marshall County (12-2) would once again face the Warriors. This go around, which started at 9 a.m., featured more of the same as the Tigerettes easily defeated Culleoka (3-10) 63-32 behind a brilliant shooting effort from senior guard Leah Hollingsworth. more
One game that a lot of basketball fans in Marshall County had circled on the calendars was a mid-season, holiday tournament matchup between the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs and Marshall County Tigerettes. Little did anyone know that both teams would enter the Richland Christmas Tournament with extremely impressive records against top-notch competition. more
he Giles County matchup versus Cornersville seemed to be evenly matched at first glance on the court despite the massive difference in student enrollment and classification size. The game also served as a homecoming of sorts for Cornersville starting point guard Darian Bush, who transferred to Cornersville from the Pulaski school. more
After losing four games in a row, the Cornersville Bulldogs etched a mark in the win column with a big 59-45 coast-to-coast victory at Cascade in Friday night’s District 8-A opener for both squads. “I’m happy, I’ve coached where I didn’t get any wins in the district, so it’s good, it’s good for our team,” Cornersville coach Matt Hagan said. “We are improving and that’s all you can ask as a coach.” more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs opened up District 8-A play Friday night at Cascade and came away with a convincing 51-44 win as Morgan Terry poured in a game-high 23 points. Cornersville (13-2, 1-0) got off to a shaky start at Wartrace, managing just 16 points in a sloppily played first half by both teams. more
The Marshall County bowling teams had a short trip to the District 8 Tournament at Galaxy Lanes in Columbia on Wednesday where the boys were eliminated in the first round, while the girls reached the semifinals before losing to Lawrence County. The host Columbia Lions and Lady Lions both finished in second place and earned Region 4 Tournament berths. more

After stealing a Thursday night first-round win versus FRA, the Marshall County Tigers got the tables turned on them on Friday when Alcoa swiped a 73-70 victory over Lewisburg. The Tigers led by six points with 1:44 remaining in the contest when they turned the ball over four straight times to give it away. “That was a tough one right there,” MCHS coach Lavon King said. “I thought we had some opportunities to close out the deal and we made some costly turnovers down the stretch.” more
The Forrest Rockets ran into a buzz saw in the first round of the John Overton Christmas Classic as Rossview ran over Chapel Hill 79-62. Rossview (12-3) beat Wilson Central 52-44 in round two before the Hawks lost 61-52 to Station Camp (10-6) in the championship game on Saturday. The Rockets played much better after the first-round loss, beating Lewis County 63-58 on Friday before losing 61-49 to Jefferson County on Saturday. Forrest’s first quarter versus Rossview was a nightmare as the Hawks made everything and the Rockets struggled to score. more

It was another great year for sports in Marshall County with the Cornersville Bulldogs coming in as the top story of the year when the Frog Bottom gridiron boys turned in the best season in school history, posting a 13-2 record and a first-ever TSSAA BlueCross Bowl appearance. After starting the season at 1-1, Cornersville ran off 12 consecutive wins to claim its first-ever region title with an unbeaten record in league play. more
The Marshall County Tigers played Thursday night’s game at the Franklin Road Academy (FRA) Christmas Tournament versus the host Panthers without senior point guard Caleb Fields, who left the team for undisclosed reasons. It didn’t matter as the rest of the squad stepped up in a huge 74-71 win that went down to the last possession. “That was a big win, it really was,” MCHS coach Lavon King said. “I came over here and watched them a couple of times at home and this is a tough environment to play in, so that was big.” more

After an 0-10 start to the season, the Forrest Rockets have won three straight with the latest coming on a real gut check Tuesday night at Cascade when Chapel Hill came from behind to win 60-48. The Rockets had a lackluster first half before turning it on with a 16-point third quarter and a monster 26-point fourth period. more
There was a time that a Forrest/Cascade basketball game was a huge deal, but since the old District 9-A was realigned four years ago, things just aren’t the same. On Tuesday Forrest travelled to Cascade and pummeled the Lady Champions 54-28 to pick up their third consecutive win and ninth of the season. more
