The most highly sought after Marshall County Tiger finally made a much-anticipated decision when Tavi McLean pledged his services to Coach Tom Arth and his Chattanooga Mocs for the 2018 season. McLean, one of the most successful defensive players to ever suit up for the Tigers chose the Mocs over offers from UT-Martin, Tennessee Tech, Samford, Tennessee State, East Tennessee State, Mercer, Jackson State, and Murray State. But ultimately, the decision came down to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and UT-Martin. more
Oh so close! The Cornersville Bulldogs worked and worked and worked but got no reward Tuesday night, falling 48-41 to Cascade at home. “We have got to shoot the ball better, I think we missed 15 free throws tonight,” Cornersville coach Matt Hagan said. “We missed a dunk, missed two or three layups, and had a couple of turnovers in crucial situations.” After beating the Champions at Wartrace earlier this month, the Bulldogs have not been able to pull out a win in a district matchup since. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs, stinging from a 50-42 District 8-A loss at Huntland last Friday, took to the hardwood for a league home game versus Cascade on Monday. “The Huntland game left a sour taste in our mouth,” Cornersville coach Peyton newton said. “You either learn from or grow from it or you let it get you down and we have a great senior group in there with a lot of experience.” more
Pundits and predictors beware. The Forrest Rockets continued their magical mystery tour on Friday night when the Chapel Hill boys travelled to Community and came away with a gut wrenching 64-63 comeback win over the Vikings. “It’s hard to come to Community and win,” Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. “You throw out records, you throw out scores, and you throw out whose playing. It’s us and them, we are 10 minutes down the road.” more
After an eight-day hiatus due to school closure because of the ice and snow last week, the Forrest Lady Rockets finally got a chance to take the floor and wash away the bad taste in their mouth from a sloppy defeat versus Nolensville on January 11. Forrest’s opponent was a familiar one at Unionville, where the Lady Rockets came up with a 66-54 coast-to-coast win over the Viqueens. more
The Forrest Rockets and Marshall County Tigers took a trip in the way-back machine Monday at Chapel Hill as the intra-county rivals met in a regular season district game for the first time since 1972. It was an exciting game for the packed house as the two squads had a lot to play for and it showed with Forrest (8-12) notching a huge 76-63 comeback win to remain undefeated at 4-0 in District 12-AA play. more
Unlike the boys, the Forrest Lady Rockets and Marshall County Tigerettes have played sporadically since the Zero classification era of the early 70’s, but on Tuesday night at Chapel Hill it was different, much different as both squads were fighting for the top spot in the newly formed District 12-AA standings. Forrest prevailed 42-26 thanks to a big 17-4 fourth quarter that boosted Chapel Hill to the win. “I am extremely proud of them for last night’s game,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “They came out and got after it from the tip and never let down. Marshall is a good team, but a great defensive team. It took us a little bit to figure out ways to score, but during that time the girls played a great defensive game.” more

n less than a month the District 12-AA Tournament begins for Forrest and Marshall County at Nolensville, while Cornersville travels to Eagleville for the District 8-A Tournament. After tonight’s slate of games that has MCHS at Nolensville, Forrest at Community, and Cornersville hosting Huntland there will be approximately eight games remaining until the postseason. The MCHS Tigerettes have had the biggest turnaround of any team in the county with a 13-3 record going into tonight’s contest at Nolensville (13-4, 2-0) and a win over the Lady Knights would create a logjam in the district standings. more

Before the Christmas break, Marshall County was a favorite to make the Class AA state tournament out of Middle Tennessee. But after the loss of point guard Caleb Fields to a boarding school in Kentucky and Devon Wilson to Columbia, the Tigers are having trouble finding bodies to play and scorers to back up K.J. Johnson. The struggles continued on Thursday night as the Tigers lost to a subpar Murfreesboro Central (11-9, 1-1) team 61-52 days after squeaking by an average Community (7-8, 0-1) squad. more
The Marshall County girls squad opened up District 12-AA play last Tuesday with a shocking last second, home loss to new opponent Community (8-7, 1-0) and returned to the court on Thursday night against Murfreesboro Central (3-12, 0-2) looking to right the ship. And just the way Tigerette coach David Steely would like it, his girls jumped out of the gate with a 29-15 halftime lead and were never really challenged, cruising to a 52-29 district win. more
The up and down Forrest Lady Rockets took another step on the downward side Thursday night at Chapel Hill as the Nolensville Lady Knights won a District 12-AA contest in dominating fashion, 51-36. Forrest had one its poorest offensive showings of the season, scoring a measly 18 points in the first three quarters as they trailed by 18 points at halftime and the game was over after three periods. more
The Forrest Rockets have a great basketball tradition, playing on the hardwood for a century. Nolensville, just a third-year high school, doesn’t. The Knights came to Chapel Hill Thursday night for a District 12-AA contest and took the Rockets for granted and disrespected them. Nolensville (7-10, 1-1) paid for their bad karma via a 79-71 win by Forrest, who scored the most points in a district game since 2013. more
Coming off an unexpected, last second win over Eagleville last week the last thing the first place Lady Bulldogs wanted was a letdown versus last place Fayetteville (5-12, 0-3) Monday afternoon at Cornersville. But this Lady Bulldog (15-2, 3-0) squad is not typical of the previous and went right to work on the Lady Tigers, who were missing its best player, D. J. Horton due to illness. more
The Cornersville boys were back in action on a rare Monday afternoon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day game against district leading Fayetteville (10-7, 3-0), looking to get back on track after suffering a close loss to Eagleville last week. And one thing is apparent about this Bulldog team, they have the talent to go head-to-head with any team in the new district, but the key will be getting all the pieces working as one to finally close on a big win. The Bulldogs (3-10, 1-2) closed the gap with Fayetteville in the third quarter after finding themselves down 10 points early. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs got manhandled in both meetings with Eagleville last season with a 31-point loss to open the season and a 19-point thumping at home to end the regular season before Cornersville moved into the Eagles district for 2017-18. Cornersville coach Matt Hagan was looking for his team to feed off the momentum of dominating Cascade in a hostile Wartrace environment in the district opener last week in the showdown with Eagleville on Tuesday. more
Cornersville got a little taste of its future home in District 8-A last year with a home and away series with Eagleville that was played on the first and last game of the season. Eagleville dominated the Lady Dawgs by 21 points in the opener and 12 points in the finale, but this season Cornersville has started out blazing hot with a 12-2 record heading into district play before knocking off Cascade last week to set up the much anticipated rematch with the Lady Eagles. more
After a 10 day layoff and still stinging from a pair of losses at the Summertown Christmas Tournament, the Forrest Lady Rockets got back on track at home via a 57-46 coast-to-coast win in the District 12-AA opener versus Giles County. “We didn't play like we are capable of playing over Christmas and dropped two that we could've won, but losing those two helped us win last night,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “We didn't execute late in those games and last night we did.” more
