The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (19-9) came into Friday night’s District 8-A Tournament third place game with a match-up against an Eagleville (19-10) team it had beaten early in the season and lost by nine points later in the year after going into the fourth quarter with the lead. The third time around offered much of the same as Cornersville led by two with 6:55 remaining, but fell apart under a full court press to fall to fourth place in the district by a score of 61-51. more
Most District 12-AA fans expected to see a Marshall County (19-7) and Forrest (18-9) matchup in the tournament title game, but after a Community upset over the Lady Rockets and second-year school Nolensville knocked off the Tigerettes, the two intra-county schools found themselves in a battle to stay out of the region four-seed and away from number-one Creek Wood (26-4). And as expected, the fight for third place was a close contest throughout, but the Tigerettes outscored Forrest 14-4 in the decisive third quarter and Marshall County left Pulaski with a 51-43 win over a Lady Rocket team that had beaten them twice during the regular season. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes came into Thursday night’s District 12-AA semifinal at Giles County versus Nolensville riding a three-game win streak, including a 38-32 win over the Lady Knights on February 6. This time, Nolensville turned the tables on MCHS and won by seven points 66-59 to advance to the tournament title game versus Community on Saturday where they lost to the Viqueens 49-39. more
Marshall County junior southpaw gunslinger KJ Johnson went wild at Pulaski Friday night, pouring in 53 points for the Tigers in a 77-64 win over intra-county rival Forrest to secure a spot in the District 12-AA title game versus Murfreesboro Central Magnet. “It’s amazing,” Johnson said. “We came out and did exactly what we were supposed to do, we came out strong, didn’t come out flat and did what were supposed to do.” more

Marshall County junior KJ Johnson has to be the favorite for the Class 2A Mr. Basketball Award after leading the Tigers to a sweep of the District 12-AA Tournament. Johnson capped off an unbelievable district tournament performance with 45 points in the Tigers’ huge 87-71 come from behind win over Murfreesboro Central Magnet (MCM) in Monday night’s title game at Pulaski. more
Forrest grapplers Jeff Gross (126 pounds), Drew Carlisle (182), and Wesley McCoy (195) advanced to the Class A/AA state finals, while Cole Geeting (145), Bryton Spitzley (152), Austin Geeting (160), and Nick McClendon (170) are hoping to fight their way through the consolation round in hopes of wrestling for third place... more

The Cornersville Bulldogs came into Tuesday night’s win or go home, first round District 8-A Tournament game against a familiar foe in Moore County with the two teams splitting the regular season series. With the season on the line at Wartrace, Cornersville went straight for the jugular and built a 14-point halftime lead that eventually expanded to 25 points in the fourth quarter. more
Marshall County junior KJ Johnson showed why he is one of the three finalists for the Class 2A Mr. Basketball Award, scoring a game-high 36 points in all-around outstanding performance Tuesday night at Lewisburg in a District 12-AA first-round 61-60 win over longtime rival Giles County (6-16). “Players make plays and make coaches look good,” Marshall County coach Lavon King said. “He stepped up and made some big three’s down the stretch when we needed them and like I said, he is a complete player.” more

It's often said that one of the hardest feats in basketball is beating the same team three times in one season. Add playing that team on its home court and throw in an elimination game and that's what four-seeded Cornersville (19-7) faced in the opening round of the District 8-A Tournament on Monday night at five-seeded Cascade (4-22). Despite only four wins on the season, the Champions played the Lady Bulldogs within single digits (7 points, 9 points) during both regular season matchups and came uncomfortably close to pulling the first upset of the tournament before Cornersville pulled away late for a 46-38 win. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes took care of business in a big way Monday night at Dottie Kelso Memorial Gymnasium in Lewisburg, hammering Murfreesboro Central Magnet 55-33 in a District 12-AA Tournament first-round satellite contest. With the win, the Tigerettes (19-6) earned a berth in the Region 6-AA Tournament next week at Nolensville, but before that Marshall County has a rubber game matchup versus the Lady Knights (18-7) in Thursday’s second district tournament semifinal game at Giles County with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. more
With the District 12-AA regular season title neatly tucked in their pocket via a win on a three-way tiebreaker, the Forrest Rockets still wanted to make a statement in Friday’s senior night matchup versus Murfreesboro Central Magnet, but fell late in a 46-45 loss. “It was pretty crazy,” Forrest coach Randy Toombs said. “They gave us every opportunity to pull away, but we just blew it.” more
After getting some help from their friends from Community via a win over Nolensville, all the Forrest Lady Rockets had to do was win in Friday’s senior night special versus Murfreesboro Central Magnet and the regular season district crown was theirs. Forrest (18-7, 8-20 blew the Lady Tigers (3-20, 0-10) out 48-25 to claim the number one seed and a first-round bye in the District 12-AA Tournament at Giles County and a Region 6-AA berth at Nolensville. more
The Forrest wrestling team keeps getting better every year and this may turn out to be the best ever after the Chapel Hill grapplers traveled to Sequatchie County High School at Dunlap last weekend for the Region 3A/AA Tournament and turned in a record setting performance... more
Going into Tuesday nights boys game against Nolensville (12-12, 6-3), the Marshall County Tigers needed a win to stay in a tie with first-place Forrest, who was taking on Community, Unfortunately, the Tigers did not come out of the gate like first place was on the line, going down 20-9 after one quarter before the Knights went on a 16-1 second quarter run to push the lead to 36-10 with three minutes to go in the first half. more
Although the Tigerettes lost the chance at a first place district finish with a pair of close four-point losses versus Nolensville (18-6, 7-2) and Forrest (17-7, 7-2) last week, Marshall County looked at Tuesday night’s game as a statement game heading into the District 12-AA Tournament next week at Giles County. And a statement was definitely made via a 38-32 win over the first place and number one-seed Lady Knights. more
It wasn’t easy, but what is when it means a lot. The Forrest Lady Rockets clinched a berth in Monday night’s Region 6-AA Tournament at Giles County with a hard fought 60-47 win over Community Tuesday night at Chapel Hill. “We came out knowing if we won we would be one or two and they knew if they won they would go from fourth to second, so there was a lot on the line,” Forrest coach Jeremy said. “Our defense kept us in the game tonight until our shots starting to fall.” more
