It’s awesome to be a part of a new, exciting, and groundbreaking experience.
It’s even better when you are chosen to be the backbone of the endeavor and that’s what happened on Tuesday at Forrest when Lady Rocket soccer players Jasmine Runk, Johnetta Nelson, Rickee Gayle Carter, and Adriana Reyes became the first signees of the fledgling soccer program at Columbia State Community College that will begin play this fall.

FMS catcher Cason Warner led the offensive attack with a 2-for-3 and five RBI effort at the plate, including an inside the park homerun in the top of the fourth inning.

The Marshall County Tigerettes’ rejuvenation was a great sight to see this season as the four-time state champions posted a solid 22-9 record and advanced to a TSSAA state sectional game for the first time in a decade.
Although the Tigerettes lost 57-39 at Cheatham County Saturday night, Marshall County exceeded expectations this season and are well on the way of returning to past glories.

Class 2A Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association’s Mr. Basketball finalist KJ Johnson put on show for the packed house in the Region 6-AA semifinals at Nolensville Tuesday night, fighting off double and triple teams by the Knights’ defense to score a game-high 43 points, but it wasn’t enough in a season-ending 72-64 loss for Marshall County (22-10).
“I told the guys after the game that I appreciated all their hard work and they left it all out there on the floor,” first-year Marshall County coach Lavon King said. “That’s all I can ask as a coach.”

In just their second year in existence, the Nolensville Lady Knights (22-8) won the Region 6-AA Tournament championship with a 46-38 victory over Marshall County Wednesday night at home and are one win away from the state tournament as they host East Nashville Saturday night in a state sectional contest.
“Our goal was to just go to sub-state this year and get into regionals and we have already passed that, so it’s a lot of relief that we got this far and I’m happy and excited,” District 12-AA regular season MVP and All-Region Tournament selection Grace Baird said. “We played East Nashville in a tournament and we lost and that was one of our worst games of the year, but we have a game plan for them and I think we can slow them down.”

During the 2016-17 season when Grace Christian Academy-Franklin (11-15) and Cornersville (8-18) were paired in the same district, the two teams engaged in some lopsided battles with the Bulldogs winning the district opener by 20 points before losing at Grace by 22 points.
The Bulldogs walloped the Lions by 19 points at Columbia State Community College in the district tournament opener to gain a region tournament berth.
Grace Christian Academy (GCA) did not graduate a single player from that squad, while the Bulldogs graduated just two players.

The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs were excruciatingly close to a win over Eagleville in the third/fourth place game in the District 8-A Tournament at Cascade last week.
The difference between a win and a loss in that district tournament was a huge factor for the region tournament as evidenced by Eagleville's easy 54-10 win in the opener versus Merrol Hyde.

After a loss to a Nolensville squad that it had beaten just a week in a half prior, the MCHS Tigerettes (21-7) were given a seeming death sentence by way of a two and a half bus ride to Dover to take on a Stewart County (23-5) team that had lost just five times this season, with two coming against district champ Creek Wood and two coming against 3A squads Clarksville (21-9) and 10-AAA champ Henry County (25-6).
By the end of Friday night, however, the depth and talent of District 12-AA was on full display as seeds one through four swept District 11-AA, including the Tigerettes’ 'dominance of Stewart County, outscoring the Lady Rebels in three out of the four quarters.

Finality is never easy and it came crashing in Monday night for the Forrest Lady Rockets, who suffered a gut-wrenching 40-38 loss to host Nolensville in the Region 6-AA Tournament semifinal.
“I told them in the locker room, they don’t want to hear it right now, but they had a really good year from where we started to where we ended, so they should be proud of themselves,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “They fought all night.”

The last time the Marshall County Tigerettes played in a region tournament final game was in the 2007-2008 season when they won their fourth state championship.
Current Marshall County coach David Steely guided the Tigerettes to that Gold Ball and then retired, but came back last year in hopes of leading the storied program back.
On Monday night at Nolensville the Tigerettes made it, upsetting top-seeded Community 47-46 in the Region 6-AA tournament semifinals to earn a berth in the region title game versus the host Lady Knights (21-8), who outlasted Forrest 40-38 in the other semifinal matchup.

The Marshall County Tigers played with a keen determination, while displaying their versatility in Saturday night’s Region 6-AA Tournament opener via a 73-50 win over Lewis County at Dottie Kelso Memorial Gymnasium in Lewisburg.
Class 2A TSSAA Mr. Basketball finalist KJ Johnson was the main focus of the Panthers’ attention coming into the contest as they boxed him in, but the Tigers had a plan too and it worked to perfection.

The Forrest Lady Rockets were staring down elimination Friday night at Creekwood in the opening round of the Region 6-AA Tournament before a fourth quarter comeback, capped off by a buzzer beating layup by freshman Laura Mealer gave Chapel Hill a 35-34 win.
“We had two plays called, one for zone and one for man (defense) and either way, I thought we were going to score,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “It was an accumulation from all year long…they fight for each other, they play hard for each other and they made the big plays late in the game and executed really well.”

The Forrest Rocket wrestling team sent a school record eight grapplers to the TSSAA State Individual Wrestling Championships and seven of the eight earned medals, while the team turned in its best ever finish with second place behind Gibbs.
“We knew it could happen,” Forrest coach Chris Slaughter said. “We watched all throughout the year and tried to make sure we got all our guys in the right spots and made sure we had the full lineup in to be able to pull them in and bring the numbers and it just kind of happened for us.”
“It was no secret, these guys knew we were coming and I talked to the Pigeon Ford coach earlier today and he said we were right on the right road.”

The Forrest Rockets have gone into a downward slide at the wrong time.
After winning the regular season District 12-AA title, the Rockets have lost three straight games, including an 87-47 blowout loss to Nolensville in Monday night’s tournament consolation game at Pulaski.
It was the largest margin in a loss since falling 79-40 to Larue County, Kentucky in the Smokey Mountain Christmas Classic at Gatlinburg last season.
