After defeating Cascade 8-0 in Wednesday's regular season finale, the Forrest Rockets entertained an entirely different Champions squad on Saturday in the first round of the District 11A-A Tournament.
The game was filled with a myriad of yellow cards, shoulder to shoulder bumping and grinding, spectacular goalie play and a crucial official's call late in regulation as the two teams battled for the right to move on.

A disappointing 15-11 loss to Community on the last day of the regular season sent Forrest all the way down to a third seed in the District 9-A Tournament, but the Rockets bounced back in Thursday's first round with a 9-4 win over Huntland in Chapel Hill.
"Our district is real close," said Forrest head coach Babe Hardison. "They were probably just a hit or two away from being right in the ballgame, but we banged it around with them and hit the ball good."

MCHS head coach Dickie Adkins could not remember the last time his Tigerette tennis squad had won the district team title, but he knew it was a long time ago and you cannot blame him for not thinking clearly after Allison Adcock drilled an overhead winner to clinch a gut wrenching 9-7 win with her doubles partner Kelsi Richardson over Page's Brenna Minyard and Makenna Hart.
"This feels great, it's been a while, it's been a while," said Adkins. "I take my hat off to Page. They were fired up for it and this could have gone either way. Luckily, we came out on top and we played the best tennis we have played all year."

Last season, the Forrest Lady Rockets watched from the stands as the Moore County Raiderettes won the Region 5-A crown over MTCS and then watched from the stands again in Murfreesboro as the girls from Lynchburg marched all the way to a second place finish in the state tournament.
This time, Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean's squad had no intentions of watching another team hoist the region title plaque for postgame photographs as the Chapel Hill hardwood heroines seized the moment by turning in an unforgettable performance in a rock solid 72-57 win over the Raiderettes in the Region 5-A title game at Community Wednesday night.

For the first time in six years, the Forrest Lady Rockets had to settle for second place in the District 9-A Tournament after Moore County took a 50-43 coast-to-coast win in the championship game Thursday night at Huntland.
"I told the girls after the game, it's not over," said Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean. "My senior season in high school (Moore County), we finished second in the district, third in the region, second in the sections and two in the state, so it is still a possibility it could happen and we need to focus on that."

It was a packed house in Wartrace Friday night as the Forrest Rockets and Cascade Champions squared off in an important late season District 9A battle and the two longtime rivals did not disappoint the crowd, playing some old fashioned in your face defensive basketball where a four to six point lead must have felt like a million.

Forrest senior guard Alyson Patton scored just seven points in the ballgame versus Houston County on day two of the Eagleville Christmas Classic and they could not have come at a better time for the Lady Rockets, who prevailed over the Lady Irish from Erin 56-44.
During a crucial late third quarter offensive by Houston County, Patton scored four points and her three-pointer at the outset of the fourth quarter lit the cool Forrest afterburners, white-hot.

The Forrest Rockets won their fifth straight game 56-35 over Gordonsville, but the score is not an indication of the heated, hard fought battle that took place on the court in day two of the Eagleville Christmas Classic.
In what many long time observers felt was a first ever occurrence, a quadruple technical foul situation on top of a personal foul sent Forrest's Taylor Gentry to the foul line for 10 free throws with 2:15 remaining in the contest after Gordonsville lost their cool after being outplayed in the fourth quarter.

It was something Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean had been waiting on all year.
His Lady Rockets squad stepped on the gas from the go and then never let up in a big, 51-22 win over Gordonsville at the Eagleville Christmas Class on Monday.
"I told them after the game that is was about time we put somebody away," said Jean. "They are not a bad team. They are a really good defensive team and have some good guards, but we played an all around good game."

Since the 2001-2002 season the Forrest Rockets have a 53-55 record up to the Christmas break, but with Tuesday's hard fought 54-51 win over Collinwood at the Waynesboro Christmas Classic, the Rockets improved to 10-2 on the season, marking the only time during that ten-year period where they can open up Santa's presents with double digit wins stuffed in their holiday stockings.

Two proud ladies basketball programs met in day two of the Wayne County Christmas Classic Tuesday afternoon with Forrest coming out on top 52-32 over Collinwood.
Both teams were coming off first round thrashings and needed to win to build some confidence and move forward in what each hopes to be a resurgent season.
"We were a completely different team from yesterday," said Forrest coach Jeremy Jean. "If this team shows up every game, we will have a chance to win every game."
