An era came to an end at Cornersville High School on Monday night when longtime softball coach Spencer Mitchell announced his retirement from coaching during the team's awards banquet at Cornersville Methodist Church. Mitchell has served as CHS' softball coach for a total of 16 years during two separate stints. Hollingsworth Field, winless Nichirin (0-5) was on the verge of getting off the snide until A Plus manager Dan Pickle lit a fire under his ballclub that sent the collision center crew off to a five-run sixth inning that put them over the top in an 8-4 win. The Marshall County High School tennis program took another giant step at the Region 6A-AA Tournament at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro on Tuesday adding some more success to their already storied history as both doubles' teams punched a ticket to next week's Spring Fling. "It's awesome," said MCHS head coach Dickie Adkins. "I knew we had the talent to do it. We faced two really good teams in the finals and we came to play today." more

Not since 1997 (Huntland) has another ballclub made the trek to Chapel Hill and beaten Forrest in a region opening match-up, but on Tuesday, the Houston County Lady Irish ended that streak and put a halt to a five-year state tournament run for the Lady Rockets in a 1-0 win. Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham said, "After the game I told the girls in 1997, we felt then what we feel now about what happened on our field and we made a commitment and we came back and they got better. I believe these girls will do that too." more
The Forrest Rocket football team hosted their first annual golf tournament Saturday at the picturesque Buford Ellington Golf Course in Henry Horton State Park under some ever changing weather conditions. In the end, the team of Jason Adkins, Justin Miller, John Summers, and Tommy "Bogie" Enoch took home top honors, shooting a twenty under par score of 52. more
There air was heavy with playoff atmosphere in Lawrence County Monday night in the first round of the Region 6-A Tournament and the two combatants, Cornersville and two time Class-A state champion Summertown played to the last breath with the host Eagles winning a 1-0 heart stopper. "There is no shame in that," said Cornersville head coach Ben Putman. "That (Summertown) is a great baseball team. That is a fantastic baseball team and we gave them a run for their money for sure." more

Early on, Forrest junior Brooke Herron did not get much run support from her Lady Rocket teammates, but Herron did not need much help in the 6-0 win as she tossed a complete game two-hit shutout over host Eagleville in the first round of the District 9-A Tournament. Herron took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Eagleville's Mandy Millard singled up the middle with one out. more
