Friday night at Bratton Field in Centerville marked the thirty-third meeting between the Marshall County Tigers and Hickman County Fighting Bulldogs and after the home squad took an early second quarter lead on a defensive touchdown, the Tigers scored 28 unanswered points for the win to take a 23-7 advantage in the series. "I knew this was going to be a tough battle," said MCHS head coach Tom Turchetta after the game. "I told the kids at the beginning when we started this thing going out to Coffee County. If this team is going to go where we think we can go, being on the road in hostile environments is good practice for us, we learn lessons from this." more

The annual MCHS versus Forrest District 11A/AA girls' soccer game is one of the highlight sporting events in the county and the rivalry has grown to become one of the deepest over recent years with the Tigerettes holding a 2-1-2 record against the Lady Rockets since August 23, 2007 when FHS posted a 6-2 home win. On Thursday night in Chapel Hill, the two squads met as earliest in a season as they have ever done in the past and the huge throng of fans got their money's worth once again in a game that unfortunately had no winner on the scoreboard as it ended in a 2-2 draw. more
The Forrest Middle School Rockets fell to 0-3 on the season Thursday night at the "Rock" after a 22-8 loss to Moore County, but showed some signs of definite improvement as they had a chance to win up until less than four minutes to go in the ballgame. After a Jacob Jones to Jesse Pruitt, 15-yard touchdown throw and catch, followed by a bruising two-point conversion run by Landen Jones cut the Moore County lead to 14-8 late in the fourth quarter, Moore County's Spencer Reese broke the Chapel Hill fans' hearts with an 82-yard touchdown jaunt with 3:06 remaining in the ballgame. more
Through three quarters at the "Rock" in Chapel Hill Friday night, Forrest held a 9-6 advantage over visiting Collinwood on three Angel Reyes field goals before the Rockets' defense came up huge, sparking a twenty-one point fourth quarter offensive that swelled the final winning total to 30-6 over the Trojans. "The defense did play well tonight," said Forrest head coach Kyle Stacey. "It was just like I was telling the kids a while ago. When one group is down, the other group will pick them up and that is the way it goes." more

The Forrest Rocket golf team's district unbeaten streak came to a halt Monday as the Cascade Champions beat the home squad 156-175, but on Tuesday Forrest got right back on track with an easy 171-212 shellacking over MTCS. On Monday, Cascade went low with Blake England leading the way with a 37, Lucas Dunnivant was one shot back of his teammate with a 38, Jake Pimental shot 40, Chad Gordon carded a 41, and Mason Brewer shot 43 for the victorious Champs. more
In Linden, the football battle cry is "row Vikings row" and in Chapel Hill Friday night, the 2010 Class A state semi-finalists found the navigation tough as the underdog Forrest Rockets held a 7-0 halftime lead before Perry County's master and commander Jacob Tucker led his squad to a second half comeback and a 22-7 opening night win. The Forrest Rockets, coming off back-to-back wins over Marshall County and an easy win over MTCS on Monday, kept their early season District 11A/AA unblemished mark intact at 4-0 when they beat Cascade 173-182 Tuesday at Henry Horton State Park. Ryan Daughrity, coming off a 37 on Monday versus the Cougars, led the way for the Rockets in the number three spot, posting a three over par round of 39 on the difficult front nine set of holes. more
Marshall Medical Center, in conjunction with its parent organization, Maury Regional Healthcare Systems has expanded its coverage of athletic trainers to include all three county high schools. Jamie Davis, the Director of Physical Therapy at Marshall Medical Center said, "We are very excited to provide athletic trainer coverage to all three schools. I hope that we will be a lot more accessible to their needs, not just by phone, but also in person. We had two trainers covering three schools and as the need became greater, we had to weigh what was appropriate to our budget to the needs of the schools and we decided that it was time to expand. We believe this will have a big impact." more
The FMS Rockets opened up the 2011 football season in Marshall County Thursday night in Chapel Hill versus the MTCS Cougars and it all looked good early on as Bart Joyce's squad took an early 8-0 lead before several costly turnovers spoiled the fun in a 38-14 loss. "Turnovers killed us," said Joyce after the game. "We had two picks and two fumbles in bad parts of the field and they took it in for scores and we just could not recover from that." more
On Friday night, the Chapel Hill community showed their continuing support for youth and prep sports in the town as a huge throng of fans showed up at the "Rock" for the First Annual Community Pep Rally. Hundreds of youth football players and cheerleaders, ranging in ages from five to eighteen took part in the event that was jump started by a rousing performance from Billy Bateman and the Forrest Rocket Band of Blue. more
On Tuesday at the Lewisburg Recreation Center, history was made as the Forrest Rockets' golf team defeated Marshall County High School for the first time ever by the narrowest of margins 173-174. "That's exciting, I really wasn't expecting that," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. The match was the first of the year for the Rocket golf team. more
Friday night, at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg, Tom Turchetta's Marshall County Tigers will host a six-team jamboree, beginning at 6:00 p.m. when the Cornersville Bulldogs (4-7) take on Zion Christian Academy (4-7). Big Dawg, Ray Stocstill will take a good look at his ballclub and he won't have to look too far to find what makes the offensive engine rumble. more
It was the first day of school in Marshall County Wednesday, and after a couple of abbreviated hours on the classroom do's and dont's, the Cornersville and Marshall County High School golf teams hitched up their golf bags for the 2nd Annual It's Time Golf Tournament, featuring the two District 11A/AA squads. It was also one of the hottest days of the summer so far with temperatures reaching triple digits near the end of the oven cooker at the Lewisburg Recreation Center Golf Course in Lewisburg. more
"I always wanted to coach at a Class A school," said Wes Hobbs, recently hired to replace Davy McClaran as the Forrest boys basketball coach. "I feel like at a Class A school, coaches can have a lot of impact on the outcome of games. The teams are closer together in ability and I know the district I am coming into is a battle every night and I think that is fun and I think you can have a lot of influence on how things turn out." more
Head coach Brent Johns and the Marshall County High School golf team travelled to Fayetteville Golf & Country Club on Tuesday to take on Lincoln County in the first scholastic sporting event of the new school year, but fell short by ten shots in a 176-166 loss. Low medalist for the event was Lincoln County's Tyler Sloane, who shot a smooth four over par 39 at the scenic nine-hole 2,808 yard course. Low man for the Tigers was Justin Killian (above) with a 41, followed by Brooks Leftwich's 42, Miller Sale ended up with a 43, and Ryan McDaniel, Carson Hill, and Ben Briggs all signed their cards with 50 strokes. Marshall County will be back in action Wednesday versus Cornersville at the Lewisburg Rec Center at 11:00 a.m. for the "Its Time Tournament." more
Lewisburg Middle School recently held their annual Athletic Banquet at the Lewisburg Recreation Center and the following awards were presented in each Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association sanctioned sport. more
