The Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs opened the 2011-12 basketball season with a win by rallying to defeat Columbia Academy 25-22 at Culleoka High School on Thursday night.
With only one starter returning from last year's squad, Cornersville struggled offensively for much of the evening and trailed 13-8 midway through the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs, though, managed to right the ship and outscored CA 17-9 the rest of the way to pull out the three-point victory.

After playing several teams close this year, the Cornersville Bulldogs tasted victory for the first time this season on Friday night when they defeated the Collinwood Trojans 38-26 at home.
Collinwood held a 14-12 lead early in the second before Cornersville scored two straight touchdowns to take a 24-14 advantage into halftime.

The FMS Lady Rockets fell to 1-2 on the season after Thursday night's 38-36 loss at Liberty, but it felt like a victory for the young squad as they fought back from a nine-point fourth quarter deficit.
Cassie Whitworth's ice cold, three-bomb with four seconds left tied the contest for FMS, but the upset attempt was spoiled on a last second, game winning lay-up by Liberty's Olivia Doak.

The Forrest Rockets pulled off one of their biggest wins in school history in dramatic fashion Friday night in Wartrace, shocking the Cascade Champions 23-20 in overtime.
Junior quarterback Brooks Lamb ran in the walk-off touchdown from 10-yards out for Forrest after Jared Carcuff's 23-yard field goal gave Cascade a 20-17 lead in the first possession of overtime.

After taking a week off to host The Middle Tennessee Small Band Championship, the Forrest Rocket Band of Blue competed at the 19th Annual "Tennessee Valley Invitational Marching Contest" on Saturday in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
This was the third consecutive year that the band made the two and a half hour trek to the competition, hosted by Muscle Shoals High School Trojan Marching Band.
There was thirty-four bands competing at the contest and the Rocket Band of Blue came back home with several awards, including a superior rating in Band, Percussion, Field Commander, and Guard.

A bright, sunny day turned into a purple storm for the FMS basketball squads on Tuesday as Community Middle School travelled to Chapel Hill and completed a sweep of the night's action.
The FMS Lady Rockets gave all they had versus the pre-season Duck River Valley Conference favorites Viqueens before succumbing 41-23.

It's hard to believe, but on Monday, hoops officially got underway in Marshall County as Forrest Middle School entertained Westwood and it turned out good for both the boys and girls in a sweep over their namesakes from Manchester.
The Lady Rockets jumped out early on Westwood, scoring the first ten points of the game before cruising home to a 39-22 win.

The prep football season is down to the nitty and gritty this week as both Marshall County and Forrest take to the road for a pair of key Week 9 match-ups that will go a long way in deciding playoff seeding and a home game in the first round on November 4.
The Rockets will face archrival Cascade in Wartrace Friday night and they will be in for the fight of their lives as they face a Champion team that has won four Sept. 9.

On Friday, the Cornersville Bulldogs (0-8, 0-5 Region) suffered their worst loss in eight years when they were defeated 63-12 on the road by Columbia Academy (6-2, 3-2 Region).
Having split the previous four meetings against Cornersville, CA jumped out to an early 14-0 lead before the Bulldogs narrowed the gap to 21-12 midway through the first quarter thanks to a 36-yard touchdown run by Dusty Currington and a Dillon Bean 22-yard TD catch.

The Marshall County Tigerettes kept their season alive for at least two more days by defeating the eighth seeded Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 4-2 at CHS in the District 11-A-AA tournament play in game on Thursday.
After the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in their lone regular season encounter, the Lady Bulldogs held a 2-1 advantage at halftime in Thursday's contest, but the Tigerettes controlled the final 40 minutes and outscored Cornersville 3-0 during that span to advance to the quarterfinals of the District tourney.

With the playoffs fast approaching, the Marshall County Tigers improved their chances of hosting a first round home game by defeating District 12-A foe Lewis County 41-18 at Preston Hopkins Field on Friday night. After a District 11A/AA Tournament play-in game 4-2 win over inter-county Cornersville, the Marshall County Tigerettes earned the unenviable task of a trip to unbeaten Page on Saturday for the quarterfinals.
Marshall County came out inspired on defense, holding the Lady Patriots scoreless until the 37:25 mark of the first half when Kelsy Wilkes turned in the box and drilled a laser past MCHS keeper Atlanta Ferguson.

Forrest defender Candace Daughrity (2) fights to get out of the corner before a charging Emily Lewis (18) arrives for Cascade. The Forrest Lady Rockets' season ended in Wartrace Friday afternoon when they fell 2-0 to the Cascade Lady Champions in the quarterfinals of the District 11A/AA soccer tournament. Haley Edmondson scored at the 26:45 mark of the first half for Cascade, and Forrest could not muster any shots on goal and the half ended with the one-nil score. In the second half, Alyssa Hoover scored for the Lady Champs off an assist by Jennifer Molder at the 19:40 mark and once again, Forrest did not produce a shot on goal and the Lady Rockets' season was over. Forrest keeper Stacey Horton stopped 18 Cascade shots in the contest.

It was far from a perfect win for Forrest at the "Rock" in Chapel Hill Friday night, but the 35-14 senior night victory over Huntland kept the Rockets in the thick of the playoff hunt.
"We had to have this one," said Forrest head coach Kyle Stacey. "This game was very crucial and we stressed to the kids this week that this was the first round of the playoffs."

On Saturday in Chapel Hill, the Forrest Rocket Band of Blue hosted the 5th Annual Middle Tennessee Small Band Championship (MTSBC) up on the "Rock" and the beautiful fall day's air was filled with binding riffs, sweet rhythms, and a kaleidoscope of colors serenading from the 17 invited high school marching bands, plus a rousing exhibition from the hosts.

Lewisburg Middle School's standout linebacker and running back Peyton Williams, who finished his 8th grade season with 750 yards on 47 attempts and 10 touchdowns, wants to be an SEC football player like his heroes Chris Booker and Dont'a Hightower.
Williams was recently named as one of the top 10 rising football stars in the country by youth1.com, has been featured in Youth Football Illustrated Magazine, and on ESPN 760 Radio.
