The Eagleville Lady Eagles came to Chapel Hill Tuesday night minus their leading scorer in Julia Adamowicz, who was out due to illness, and the Lady Rockets soon found out that a wounded animal is sometimes the toughest to defeat as they trailed at the end of every quarter, except the one that mattered in a come-from-behind 43-38 win. The first quarter started out very slow on both sides with Eagleville's Ashley Tidwell scoring the first four points of the game before Forrest finally got on the board at the 2:02 mark of the period on a Hannah Phifer basket. Eagleville was determined to win for their fallen star, scoring the next twelve points, while holding the Lady Rockets scoreless the remainder of the period with the big blow coming on a buzzer beating three-pointer by Nicole Duke to make it 16-2. more
Longtime hard-court rivalries are usually associated with proximity and that is certainly the case for Forrest and Eagleville with the latest District 9-A tilt played out on Tuesday in Chapel Hill with the Rockets coming out on top 68-57 in what turned out to be a rough and tumble ending. Forrest's Zach Horvath, who tied teammate Mark Pope with game-high scoring honors with 21 points in the contest, challenged the Eagles to stop his athletic game in the paint all night to no avail and in the final seconds of the ballgame, Horvath got tangled up near midcourt while being fouled and tempers began to flare, but the TSSAA referees took control before any incidents took place. more
