After losing 6-1 to Blackman in their season opener the previous day, the Marshall County Tigers evened their record at 1-1 on Tuesday by defeating the Forrest Rockets 11-3 in Chapel Hill. Forrest actually held a 2-0 lead through the first two innings of play, but the Tigers experienced a power surge at the plate and clubbed four home runs over the next five innings en route to outscoring the Rockets 11-1 during that span. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs completed the regular season sweep of Santa Fe on Tuesday when they pulled out a hard fought 5-4 victory on the road to record their 16th straight victory against the Wildcats. After the two teams battled to a 4-4 tie through the first five innings of play, the Bulldogs took a one-run lead in the top of the sixth thanks to a RBI double by first baseman Mikey Adams before CHS starting pitcher Matt Callender held Santa Fe scoreless over the final two frames. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets moved to 2-0 on the young season as they survived a shaky defensive effort with some timely hitting and solid pitching from Brooke Herron and Sara Jordan, holding on for a 7-6 win over Independence (1-1) Wednesday night in Chapel Hill. "I don't know what we will have to do to get over errors; we cannot do that and expect to win against good teams," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "It's good to win, but it is not good to play sloppy." more
After a season opening 2-0 loss at Columbia Central on Monday, the Marshall County Tigerettes bounced back with a vengeance, bashing District 12-AA rival Page 19-2 in Rudderville Tuesday afternoon. MCHS head coach Holly Cook said after the game, "We had a little slump yesterday, but I told them I was glad they got that out of their system because of the big district game today. We came out with bats blazing and I am real excited about that." more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs had a tough afternoon in their final preseason tune up for the 2012 softball campaign, as they lost all three contests at the Shelbyville Play Day on Saturday at Musgrave Park. Playing without sophomore hurler Taylor Wolaver, who is currently sidelined with an injured shoulder and is expected to be Cornersville's top pitcher this season, the Lady Bulldogs were forced to use freshman Ashley Umbles and eighth grader Briley Bean in the circle against a trio of Class AAA opponents in Warren County, Lincoln County, and Franklin County. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes wrapped up their preseason softball schedule by posting a 3-1 record at the Shelbyville Play Day on Saturday afternoon at Musgrave Park. After defeating Shelbyville 4-1 in their opener, the Tigerettes thumped Moore County 8-2. Marshall County then lost 10-3 to Oakland before ending the day with a 5-1 victory over Huntland. more
The Lewisburg Middle School Tigers (2-1) were dealt their first loss of the season on Friday night when they dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision to the Spring Hill Generals on the road. After Lewisburg rallied from a two-run deficit by crossing home plate twice in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2, the Generals (4-0) pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a perfectly executed squeeze play, which saw Orrin Delk score from third on a sacrifice bunt by pinch hitter Adam Westra. more
Former Marshall County High School graduate and current Blackman baseball coach Chris Parker ran his record to 3-0 against his alma mater on Monday afternoon, as his Blaze squad defeated the MCHS Tigers 6-1 at Joe George Field in the season opener for both teams. "You can go around here and look at all the state championship signs so winning here always means something," said Parker. "I grew up around a lot of great players here. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of those players, but my coaches here taught me a lot." more
Coming into Friday afternoon's showdown in Unionville, the FMS Lady Rockets had averaged 11.5 runs per game during their 4-0 start, but that was before they ran into Viqueen hurler Karla Pena, who tossed a solid, 6-0 shutout gem as Community took over first place in conference play. Pena scattered eight Forrest base hits, walked one and struck out one for the unblemished Viqueens. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets, coming off their first season in five years with no state tournament appearance, started the 2011-2012 campaign off with a bang, shellacking Eagleville 9-1 Monday night at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill. "We are not satisfied with our mental intensity," said FHS head coach Becky Cheatham after the game. "We have a lot of improvement that we need to make. I thought we had made some over the past week, but I am not happy with where we have begun, so we have a lot of work to do." more
There are a couple of handfuls of athletes that come along, that at a young age, you just know with all their God given talent and drive to succeed that they are going to keep climbing the ladder towards a great athletic career and Marshall County High School senior Brianna Roberts is one of those special talents. Roberts' hard work and excellence on the softball diamond paid off as she recently signed a Letter of Intent and scholarship papers to play softball next season for the Division I Tennessee State University Tigers (TSU) in Nashville. more

WARTRACE-- For four innings, the Cascade Champions held pace with the Forrest Middle Rockets on Monday night. But things went downhill in a hurry for the Champs in the top of the fifth inning when the Rockets took a 2-0 lead. Forrest rolled off that momentum in the top of the fifth and piled up 13 runs in the final three innings, including 9 in the top of the seventh, to cruise to the 13-1 win. After battling the Rockets for leadership of the scoreboard, Cascade finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning when Caleb Smith got on base with a leadoff walk. more

Despite turning in their best offensive performance of the season, the Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs saw their record fall to 0-3 on Tuesday night when they were defeated 20-11 by the Community Vikings at home. Community scored in each of the first five innings to forge an 18-6 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth before eventually claiming the nine-run victory. more

Cornersville held a 3-0 lead through first three innings of play, but saw things go awry from that point on while Community crossed home plate 11 times over the next four frames thanks to a slew of defensive miscues by the Lady Bulldogs to claim the seven-run victory. more
The Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs (2-1) came out on top of a wild offensive shootout on Monday night, as they rallied to defeat the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes 13-11 at home. After watching the lead change hands five times through the first five innings of play, the Tigerettes (1-1) held a tenuous 11-10 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. more

Last May, the FMS Rockets travelled to Huntland and beat the Hornets 3-1 in the Mid-South Conference championship game to win their third consecutive title, but on Tuesday in Chapel Hill, the Hornets gained a measure of revenge with a come from behind 3-2 win. "We didn't look at as revenge," said Huntland head coach Sean McClennan. "We looked at as a challenge, Forrest is a good team and we just made the plays when we had to." more
FMS second baseman Bryce Oliver (15) went 3-3 with three runs scored and and three RBIs Wednesday night as the Rockets bounced back from a tough loss to Huntland on Tuesday with a 12-0 run-rule win over Eagleville in Chapel Hill. Marshall McKee picked up the win on the hill for the Rockets, allowing just one hit, while striking out five Eagle batters and walking one. Alex Brewer, Ryan Yelensky, and Jesse Priutt all had two hits apiece, and Jacob Jones, Landon Jones, Boone Sweeney, and McKee all managed one base knock. more
