FMS backstop Boone Sweeney and the top-seeded Rockets will host the Mid-South Conference Middle School Baseball Tournament, beginning on Saturday at 11 a.m. when Community takes on Moore County. Cascade will play Westwood at 1:30 p.m., and after a loser's bracket game at 4 p.m., the Rockets will be in action at 6:30 p.m. when they play the winner of the Cascade/Westwood game. The tournament will continue to Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in Chapel Hill. more
The Forrest Middle School Rockets (14-3) earned a split of the regular season series against county rival Lewisburg Middle School by whipping the Tigers 15-4 at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field on Monday night to avenge a 6-3 loss to LMS earlier in the season. Forrest finished with seven hits and five walks against two Lewisburg pitchers while the Tigers aided the Rockets' cause by committing a season high nine errors. more
The Forrest Rockets (13-11) got the better of county rival Cornersville for the second time this season when they squeaked out a 3-2 road victory over the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon. Having defeated Cornersville 13-0 on April 7, the Rockets had a much tougher time with the Bulldogs (9-13-1) this time around, as the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie through the first six innings of play. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (6-9) had their modest two-game winning streak snapped on Monday night when they dropped a 6-2 decision at home to the Columbia Central Lady Lions. Columbia held a tenuous 3-2 lead through the first five innings of Monday's contest before crossing home plate three times in the top of the sixth to pull away for the four-run victory. more
Senior starting pitcher Kalie Hobbs helped the Marshall County Tigerettes (16-9) grab sole possession of first place in the District 12-AA standings on Wednesday night, as she tossed her second no-hitter of the season to lead MCHS to a 2-1 home victory over conference co-leader East Hickman. With both teams boasting perfect 12-0 records in District play, the Lady Eagles (19-10) held a 1-0 lead through the first three innings of play after scoring an unearned run in the opening frame. more
The Marshall County Tigers reduced their magic number for clinching the top seed in the upcoming District 12-AA tournament to one on Tuesday when they defeated the Summit Spartans 9-3 at home on Senior Night to record their eighth straight win. MCHS can clinch the number one seed with a win over Summit on Thursday or with a Spring Hill loss to Fairview. more
It was essentially one game for the District 9-A regular season title Tuesday night in Lynchburg as first place Forrest took on second place Moore County with the Lady Rockets coming out on top 4-1 behind a strong performance in the circle by Brooke Herron and one big inning on offense. Herron did not give up a run until the bottom of the seventh, turning in a sparkling complete game effort, giving up just three hits, while striking out seven and walking one. more

In a preview of the Region 6-A-AA tournament, the District 11-A-AA Marshall County tennis team took on District 12-A-AA Columbia Academy (CA) Friday in Lewisburg with the Tigers' boys (4-5) dominating (6-1), while the girls, also 4-5 on the season were blanked by the Lady Bulldogs (0-7). On the boys' side, MCHS top-seed Justin Killian made easy work of Cannon Fuller, overpowering the number one Bulldog (8-2). more
It was senior night at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill Thursday night as Forrest took on archrival Cascade in the battle for first place in District 9-A, and by the end of the spirited 4-3 win, the Lady Rockets (16-6, 8-1) were in first place all alone, one game up on the Lady Champions and Moore County. "That was a good ballgame, we didn't make any critical mistakes in any critical situations," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "They really showed some maturity tonight, they didn't break under pressure, and hopefully we can take that and build on it." more
It felt like winter Monday with temperatures in the 50's and the north wind blowing and gusting at times over 20 m.p.h., making it difficult to play error free softball, but the Forrest Lady Rockets made the best of it, coming away with a six-inning, 14-4 run-rule win at Spring Hill. Sara Jordan led off the ballgame with a shot into the wind to right field that went all the way to the fence, allowing the sophomore to circle the bases with an inside-the-park homerun. Jessica Harmon reached on an infield error by the Lady Raiders and Adrean Jordan followed with double to windy right field, putting Lady Rockets runners on second and third. more
Forrest two days earlier, the Marshall County Tigers picked up a big District win on Saturday night when they crushed third place Summit 7-2 at home behind a stellar effort from senior striker Andres Acosta. The Spartans (4-7-1, 3-2 District) battled MCHS to a 1-1 tie late in the first half, but the Tigers seized the momentum shortly after that point and tallied two goals in the last six minutes of the stanza to take a 3-1 lead into the break. Marshall County (7-4-2, 3-1-1) then kept their foot on the gas in the second half and outscored Summit 4-1 over the final 40 minutes to roll to their third straight victory. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs kept themselves in the running for one of the top three seeds in the upcoming District 11-A tournament by defeating second place Culleoka 5-4 at home on Friday night to record their 10th straight win over the Lady Warriors. Culleoka (5-8, 4-3 District) appeared they might break Cornersville's hex over them and held a 4-3 lead through the first six and a half innings of play. more
The Marshall County Tigers (18-8) defeated Columbia Central for the first time in five years when they pulled out a hard fought 3-2 win over the Lions on Friday night at Joe George Field. Having lost to Columbia 5-2 earlier in the season, MCHS held a 2-0 lead through the first five innings of play before the Lions (13-12) pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth to knot the score at 2-2. more
On Thursday night, the Marshall County Tigers (6-4-2, 2-1-1 District) defeated archrival Forrest for the third straight time on the pitch when they claimed a hard fought 3-1 victory over the Rockets in Chapel Hill. Marshall County held a 2-0 lead at the break, but Forrest (1-6, 1-4 District) made things interesting in the second half and scored a goal midway through the stanza to slice the deficit to 2-1. The Tigers, though, fended off the challenge from the Rockets and put the game away by tallying a goal with two minutes left in regulation to clinch their second consecutive win. more
The Marshall County Tigers got back into the race for the District 12-AA regular season title by defeating first place Spring Hill 5-1 at home on Monday night to move within one game of the Raiders in the league standings. Spring Hill (18-4, 10-1 District) held a tenuous 1-0 lead through the first three and a half innings of play, but the Tigers tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull ahead 2-1. Marshall County (15-8, 9-2 District) then crossed home plate three times over the next two frames to open up a four-run advantage before quelling a Raider rally attempt in the top of the seventh. more
On Monday, the Cornersville Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating District 11-A rival Richland 12-2 at home in five innings to improve their record to 7-2 in conference play. Having scored a total of just four runs in their last three contests, the Bulldogs (9-8-1) saw their bats catch fire on Monday and pounded out 12 hits against two Raider pitchers to go along with two walks and three hit batsmen. more
After defeating Spring Hill 5-1 two days earlier, the Marshall County Tigers completed the season sweep of their District 12-AA rival on Wednesday night when they whipped the Raiders 8-1 on the road to extend their current winning streak to four games. Thanks to Wednesday's triumph, the Tigers joined Spring Hill atop the conference standings and own the tiebreaker for the number one seed in the upcoming District tournament. more
On Monday, the Forrest Rockets came away with a huge 5-4 win in Wartrace with Zach Horvath picking up the win on the mound, and after a one-day wait because of rain on Tuesday, the two squads squared off in Chapel Hill on Wednesday where the Rockets completed the sweep over the Champions with a 3-1 victory. With the pair of wins over the Champs, the Rockets (12-10, 7-3) vaulted to second place in the District 9-A standings, one game behind league leader Eagleville (20-4, 6-2) with Cascade one game back of the Rockets, who now hold the tiebreaker over the orange and black. more
After posting a 1-3 record in pool play at the Lincoln County Border Battle, the Marshall County Tigerettes suffered a frustrating 2-1 loss to the Moore County Raiderettes in the first round of the double elimination portion of the tournament on Saturday morning. The Tigerettes held a tenuous 1-0 lead through the first six innings of play, but Moore County saw their offense finally come to life in the top of the seventh and pushed across two runs in the frame to seize a 2-1 advantage before snuffing out a Marshall County scoring threat in the bottom of the seventh. more
