Things did not start out well for Tigerette senior circle dweller Kalie Hobbs in Friday night's District 12-AA second round game versus Lewis County as she gave up a two-run homer in the first inning to Kelby Reeves and then got stung on the arm by some flying creature in Lewisburg. "If we are going to keep with this outcome that will OK with me, but it doesn't sit really well in the first inning," said MCHS head coach Holly Cook about the two-run deficit. "Our girls have battled all year, it was the first inning, they don't give up and that is what I have been most proud of this year." more
The Forrest Rockets reached the end of the road Monday night in Eagleville, suffering a 4-1 loss in the third round of the District 9-A Tournament, ending head coach Babe Hardison's 26-year career at the helm of the Rockets. Hardison finished with a 484-264 record and said after the game, "I wish we could have won all of it, which is the wish of everybody that plays and coaches too, but we have improved this year. We came a long way this year, we were not real good early, but we came on and were a pretty good team." more
Marshall County had one survivor after Friday's District 11A-AA Tennis Tournament at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro as Sarah Tietgens and Lauren Blackmon came in second place in doubles to qualify for the region tournament that begins on Monday May 14 at Old Fort. more

The Marshall County Tigerettes perfect run through District 12-AA play came to an end on Monday night when they suffered an 8-3 loss to the Lewis County Lady Panthers in Hohenwald. Coming off a 10-0 loss to Giles County earlier in the evening, Lewis County trailed 3-2 through the first three and a half innings of play, but saw their bats heat up after that point and crossed home plate six times over the next three frames to claim the five-run victory. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs fell into the loser's bracket of the District 11-A tournament on Tuesday night after dropping a 7-4 decision to the fifth seeded Richland Raiders at home in the first round of the tourney. With the two teams splitting the regular season series, the Raiders held a tenuous 2-1 lead through the first four innings of Tuesday's contest but broke the game open by scoring five runs in the top of the fifth to forge a 7-1advantage before staving off a late Bulldog rally attempt. more
After having their nine-game winning streak snapped with a 12-2 loss to Summertown the previous night, the Marshall County Tigers (21-9) entered the playoffs on a positive note, as they rallied to defeat the Franklin County Rebels 8-5 at home on Tuesday in their regular season finale. Franklin County held a 5-2 lead through the first four and a half innings of play, but the Tigers came storming back and crossed home plate six times over the next two frames to pull out the three-run victory. more
In two games, Moore County managed just four hits off the Forrest pitching staff but came away with a 4-3 win on Saturday in Lynchburg and a 2-1 victory on senior night in Chapel Hill Monday, sending the Rockets from second place to third in the final District 9-A standings. Forrest head coach Babe Hardison, who is retiring at the end of the season, was honored before the game on Monday. Hardison has coached the Rockets since 1986, compiling a record of 483-261, with his best finish coming in 2006 when the Rockets placed second in Class A. more
The FMS Rockets are one win away from claiming their fourth straight Mid-South Conference title after a heart-stopping 4-3 win versus Cascade Wednesday night in Chapel Hill. The Rockets went undefeated in the Eastern Division Tournament and now await the winner from out west on Monday night. FMS head coach Bart Joyce said after the game, "We are champs three years running now and hope to make it four in a row. We will come out Monday and be ready to go." more
After suffering their first district loss of the season the previous night at Lewis County, the Marshall County Tigerettes bounced back in a big way, run-ruling East Hickman 13-2 in Lyles Tuesday night to claim the District 12-AA regular season title. "They had some nerves, they have never been in a position to be able to be number one," said MCHS head coach Holly Cook. "We should be used to it and should be playing for that number one spot every year, so I think the nerves got them a little bit and our bats got clicking." more
Forrest is free-falling at the wrong time of the season, losing their third consecutive game as MTCS defeated the hometown Rockets 6-3 in nine innings Thursday night in the first round of the District 9-A Tournament in Chapel Hill. The Rockets trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before scoring three times to get within three outs of advancing to the winner's bracket, but could not hold the lead, allowing the Cougars to tie the game in the seventh on an RBI single by Seven Barker. It was a pitcher's duel for much of the night as Forrest's Zach Horvath and MTCS's Ivy Starling locked horns with the duo allowing zero runs combined through the first five innings. more
Coming off a 13-1 victory over Mt. Pleasant two days earlier, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs picked up an important District 11-A win on Thursday night when they crushed second place Culleoka 13-3 on the road in six innings. Thanks to Thursday's triumph, Cornersville finished in a three-way tie for second place in the District standings with Culleoka and Columbia Academy and will be the third seed in the conference tournament. more
Having lost three straight one-run games earlier in the week, the Cornersville Bulldogs (10-13-1) got a shot in the arm before the start of the playoffs, as they defeated District 9-A leader Eagleville 3-1 on the road in their regular season finale on Friday afternoon. Aided by a strong outing from starting pitcher Matt Callender, Cornersville held a 1-0 lead through the first five innings of play, but the Eagles (22-9) plated a run in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 1-1. more
After beating Middle Tennessee Christian School (4-2) and Hickman County (3-1) earlier in the week, the Marshall County Tigers soccer team reeled off their sixth straight victory on Friday night when they defeated the Cascade Champions 4-1 at home on Senior Day in their regular season finale. Marshall County (10-4-2, 5-1-1 District) got off to a fast start and built a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. Cascade then tallied a goal late in the opening stanza to trim the deficit to 2-1 at the break, but the Tigers put the game out of reach by scoring twice in the first 25 minutes of the second half to claim their 10th victory of the year. more
On Thursday night, the Marshall County Tigers captured their first regular season District championship in four years when they defeated Summit 3-0 on the road to complete the season sweep of the Spartans. Although Marshall County has to share the regular season title with Spring Hill, the Tigers will be the top seed in the District 12-AA tournament thanks to their two-game sweep of the Raiders the previous week. more
The MCHS tennis team swept Middle Tennessee Christian School (MTCS) in the District 11A-AA semifinals Friday at Old Fort Park with identical 4-2 victories, setting up a championship fianl match-up versus Page on Tuesday at MTCS. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets scored a pair of easy wins at the Coffee County Spring Classic in Manchester Friday night, shutting out Cumberland County 7-0 before pummeling Grundy County 15-3 in the nightcap. With the 7-0 win over the Lady Jets from Crossville, Forrest notched win number seven in a row and eclipsed the 20-win mark for the season, marking 20-win campaigns every year head coach Becky Cheatham has been at the helm since 1998. more
The number-one seeded FMS Rockets looked like they were going to cruise to an easy first round Mid-South Conference Tournament win, leading 3-1 through five innings before the Cascade Champions dug in, taking the lead twice over the next three innings before Forrest prevailed 9-8 in eight innings. "We didn't fold whenever the time came to it," said FMS head coach Bart Joyce. "We stepped up and got the runs in the places we needed it. Down one, down two runs, we came back and finally stepped up here in the eighth inning and got it done." more
