The Marshall County Tigerettes had a tough time in their season opener on Tuesday afternoon, as they suffered an 8-0 road loss to the Columbia Lady Lions at Cook Soccer Park.
Columbia controlled the action throughout the contest and built a 3-0 lead in the first half before scoring five more goals over the final 40 minutes to cruise to the easy victory.
"They are a pretty stacked team. They have a lot of talent, a lot of skill, and a lot of speed. We have to be smarter when we play teams like that. We made some mental mistakes and they capitalized on them," said first-year Marshall County coach Mark Redferrin.

Bulldogs hoping to return to playoffs
After finishing with a 2-8 record during an injury riddled 2011 campaign, the Cornersville Bulldogs are hoping those growing pains will pay dividends on the gridiron this season, as they return several starters on both sides of the ball to go along with a handful of promising newcomers that came out for the team this year.
Having made the Class A playoffs the previous two years, the Bulldogs were dealt a major blow prior to the 2011 season when starting quarterback Joe Stocstill tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Pigskin Preview and was forced to sit out his senior year.

The Forrest Rockets began the Joe Moos coaching era in style, traveling to Perry County and exacting some revenge on the Vikings with a convincing 14-6 opening season win.
"First thing before everything, I would like to thank Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior, because the baby, the football, the masters has been a lot," said Moos after the game. "The kids fought hard and you can tell the conditioning has paid off. We had too many mistakes, we fumbled two times in the chin, the defense was not checking the coverage right and there was too much we have to get better at, but we are going to fix those things at practice this week."
