A battle of unbeatens turned out to be a total mismatch, as the Lewisburg Middle School Tigers crushed Big South Conference rival Spring Hill 52-26 at home on Tuesday night to avenge a 14-6 loss to the Generals last year. The Tigers (6-0, 3-0 Conference) buried Spring Hill with an avalanche of first half touchdowns and held a staggering 52-0 lead at the break before coasting to the 26-point victory. more
The Marshall County Tigers made sure the initial Gary Wells Cup would be in Lewisburg for at least one year as they ran away with title by having a big day on Tuesday at the Buford Ellington Golf Course inside Henry Horton State Park. Wells said after the match, "I am real proud and it is a great honor to present the cup to my alma mater and the high school where I have been for so long. Nothing against the other schools of course, because this is a county thing and it is good competition for all three schools." more
Forrest (2-2) has won 11 consecutive skirmishes in the intra-county Battle of the North and South series versus Cornersville (2-2) and former Bulldog assistant coach Joe Moos is hoping to make it an even dozen for the Rockets when the two squads meet Friday night at "The Rock" in Chapel Hill with game time set for 7 p.m. The Bulldogs last win in the series came via a 13-7 win in 1996 at Cornersville, as touchdown runs by Chad Warren and Jamie Holt were enough to offset a single TD run by Rocket running back Josh Floyd. more
The Forrest Middle School Rockets lost at home 30-18 to Liberty Thursday night to fall to 2-4 on the season. The Rockets played a solid first half, leading 18-14 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first half, before a coaching blunder led to an untimely turnover that resulted in a Liberty touchdown. more
The Marshall County Tigers golf team ran their record to 16-5 on the season by defeating the Forrest Rockets and Giles County Bobcats in an 18-hole match at Henry Horton State Park on Thursday afternoon. Playing their second 18-hole match of the season, the Tigers shaved 34 strokes off of their previous score and shot 330 as a team after taking the four best rounds from five players. Giles County placed second in the match with a score of 343, while Forrest tallied a 359. more
Cornersville Middle School's Kolbe McMahon was a one-man wrecking crew on Thursday night, as the dual threat quarterback racked up 528 all-purpose yards and accounted for seven touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 56-36 victory over the Huntland Hornets at home. Having lost to Huntland 14-12 three weeks earlier, Cornersville (3-2) saw their offense fire on all cylinders in Thursday's contest and built a 36-24 lead in the first half before outscoring the Hornets 20-12 over the final two quarters to claim their second straight victory. more
On Thursday, the Marshall County Tigerettes (2-5-1, 1-3-1 District) suffered their second straight loss on the pitch when they fell 8-0 to a deep and talented Page Lady Patriot squad at home. Having won the last seven District 11-A-AA titles, the Lady Patriots held a 2-0 lead late in the first half before scoring four goals in a span of 10 minutes to take a 6-0 advantage into the break. Page (4-4-1, 4-0 District) then found the back of the net two more times in the second half to cruise to their second straight victory. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (2-5-1) recorded their most lopsided victory on the pitch in seven years on Friday afternoon when they crushed the Culleoka Lady Warriors 10-0 at home. Cornersville buried the Lady Warriors (0-7) early and forged a 5-0 lead in the first half before scoring five more goals over the final 40 minutes to coast to their second win of the season. more
The Cornersville Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1 District) had their modest two-game winning streak snapped on Friday night, as they suffered a 53-21 loss to a brash and athletic Mt. Pleasant Tiger squad at home. The Giles County Bobcats showed why they are the top-ranked team in Class 4-A Friday night, pummeling the Marshall County Tigers 45-14 in front of a packed house at Sam Davis Park in Pulaski. The Forrest golf squad is in the midst of their busiest week of the season, getting ready for the upcoming District 11A-AA Tournament as they played four matches in five days, including the Gary Wells Cup on Tuesday. On Wednesday at Henry Horton State Park's Buford Ellington course, FHS head coach Kyle Stacey said, "This was our best team score of the year for boys." more
After beating David Lipscomb 22-18 last year, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigers (5-0) got the better of the Nashville private school for the second straight time on Tuesday night, as they rallied to defeat the Mustangs 24-14 at Preston Hopkins Field on Homecoming. David Lipscomb appeared bent on avenging last season's loss at the start of the game and raced out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. more
Marshall County High School opened up an almost insurmountable gap in their quest for the coveted Gary Wells Cup, coming away with a 16-stroke win over Forrest Tuesday at Saddle Creek Golf Club in the second leg of the event. The Tigers now stand at 328 total strokes in the three-match event with Forrest in second place at 363 and Cornersville in third with a 433 score. more
The Forrest Rockets will have the week off this Friday night after a tough loss at White House-Heritage last week, but FHS head coach Joe Moos will have the luxury of scouting the his next opponent, the Cornersville Bulldogs, who take on Mt. Pleasant in "Frog Bottom". The Bulldogs (2-1) have won two straight after a close opening season loss to Moore County, while the Tigers (2-2) from Maury County dropped out of the AP Top 10 last week after a 56-42 loss at home to Cheatham County. more
The Lewisburg Middle School Tigers traveled to Dickson County for their first true test of the season and came away with a huge 28-14 win to move to 4-0 on the season. Dickson Middle School got on the scoreboard first, beginning with a long completion by Will Roberts to Jacob Murphree that put the Dragons in Tiger territory. On the next play, Trey Wiedman took it down the right side 46 yards for a touchdown. more
With the District 11-A-AA tournament less than three weeks away, the Marshall County Tigers golf team began their preparation for the postseason by defeating the Columbia Central Lions and Shelbyville Golden Eagles in an 18-hole match at Graymere Country Club on Thursday after competing in the Keith Maxwell Invitational two days earlier. Taking the four best rounds from six players, the Tigers (12-5) posted a team score of 364 to sweep the match, while Columbia was nine strokes off the pace and tallied a 373. more
Amala Elder helped Cornersville pick up their first victory of the season on the pitch, as the junior striker scored a career high four goals to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 4-0 home win over the Huntland Lady Hornets on Thursday night. Huntland had defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-1 in their lone encounter last year, but Cornersville (1-4-1, 1-3 District) turned the tables on the Lady Hornets in Thursday's contest and built a 3-0 lead in the first half before tacking on another goal midway through the second stanza to cruise to the easy victory. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets played one good half versus Cascade Thursday night in Chapel Hill, but a very bad second half cost them in a lopsided 9-3 loss to the Lady Champions. The Lady Rockets came out of the gate fast with Sarah Blasingim scoring at the 38:38 mark of the first half to make it 1-0. more
