What a way to start the District 9A slate.
The Forrest Lady Rockets laid it all on the line Friday night versus the defending league champion Moore County Raiderettes, coming within a whisker of an upset before falling 45-42.
Although Forrest trailed the entire ballgame, except for two times early in the fourth quarter when they tied the game, they had several other opportunities to tie or go-ahead, but could not capitalize.

After a close first half, the Giles County Bobcats turned on the Tigers, outscoring Marshall County 39-23 in the second half of their home opener, en route to an easy 61-42 win.
"I thought we started the game strong both offensively and defensively, Giles was playing us man early on and they had a hard time guarding us,"said MCHS head coach Adrian Wilson. "They made the adjustments and went zone and our offense stalled. We became stagnant versus the zone and did not move well against it, thus, limiting our point production and increased turnovers."

Too many times, already this season, the MCHS Tigerettes have led early, and led late, only to see victory disappear from their hands in a 0-5 start to the year.
But not this time, not at Dottie Kelso Memorial Gymnasium and not in front of a big home crowd in their home opener as the Tigerettes led from midway through the first quarter, to the end in 48-34 win over the Giles County Lady Bobcats.
"I'm happy, because it was at home and it was our first district game," said Tigerette sophomore point guard Mecia Reed. "We were on a five-game losing, so it was great to get this one at home."
