The one thing coaches fear the most is falling behind in a road playoff game and the Forrest Rockets fell so far behind that not even a spirited comeback was enough as they were eliminated from post-season play via a 47-39 loss at White House-Heritage Saturday night in the first round of the Region 5-A Tournament. "I told them after the game that I was happy to go to battle with them," said Forrest head coach Wes Hobbs. "They played hard and made plays in the second half, we much better defensively in the second half, but we just spotted them way too much of a lead." more

Loretto knocked the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (19-9) out of the Region 6-A tournament for the third straight year, as CHS dropped 41-25 decision to the Lady Mustangs at home on Friday night in the first round of the tourney. Aided by a dominant defensive performance from center Rachel Burden, Loretto (19-11) built a 23-14 lead in the first half before opening up a 38-18 advantage early in the fourth quarter en route to claiming their fifth straight win over Cornersville. more
It was a packed house in Eagleville Monday night at the Region 5-A Tournament and the upset bug was set in motion as No. 3 three seeded Nashville Christian stormed back from a 12-point first half deficit to beat second-seeded Cascade 51-39 in the first semifinal, setting the stage for the fourth-seeded Forrest Lady Rockets attempt at pulling off an upset over the top-seeded and sixth ranked Moore County Raiderettes in the nightcap. Moore County had won the previous four meetings between the long-time rivals and six out of the last nine, including a 40-point thrashing in their last meeting. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets are getting used to the dramatic ending after pulling out their second consecutive post-season overtime win as they travelled to Houston County Friday night and came away with a 47-43 triumph over the Lady Irish in the first round of the Region 5-A Tournament. With the win, the Lady Rockets (16-17) get a re-match with top-seeded Moore County (28-4) on Monday night as the tournament moves to Eagleville for the semifinals with the winners earning a state sectional berth, while the loser goes home. more

The Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs began the 2013 softball campaign with a bang, as they went on the road and defeated Columbia Academy 7-2 on Friday afternoon. CA held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning, but Cornersville controlled the game from that point on and outscored Columbia Academy 7-1 over the final six frames to claim the five-run victory. Lady Bulldog starting pitcher Kirsten Young went the distance in the circle to pick up the win and racked up 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work, while allowing two unearned runs on eight hits and no walks. more
The Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs fell to 0-2 on the young season when they were defeated 13-3 at home in five innings by the Community Vikings on Tuesday night. Having lost 10-0 to Community in their previous outing, Cornersville held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning in Tuesday's contest, but things quickly went downhill for the Bulldogs after that point, as the Vikings outscored CMS 13-2 over the next four frames to complete the sweep of the season series. more
The FMS Rockets opened up their defense of four consecutive Mid-South Conference titles in style Tuesday, beating Westwood 7-1 in Manchester. "It's always nice to get the first win of the season," said head coach Bart Joyce. "Westwood has a good team, but we managed to capitalize when we got the chance on the bases." The Rockets scratched across a run in the top of the first inning as catcher Jacob Jones led off the game with an infield single. more
Coming off a gut wrenching 72-70 loss to top seeded Middle Tennessee Christian School four days earlier, the Forrest Rockets (19-11) were forced to settle for a fourth place finish in the District 9-A tournament after losing 66-56 to the Community Vikings in the consolation finals on Friday night at Motlow State Community College. Having split the regular season series against FHS, the Vikings (13-16) held a slender 30-29 lead at the end of the first half before outscoring the Rockets 36-27 over the final two quarters to take home the 10-point victory. more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (19-7) advanced to the District 11-A tournament title game for the fifth straight year by defeating fourth seeded Culleoka 46-25 in the semifinals at Richland High School on Thursday night to record their 22nd consecutive win over the Lady Warriors. With top sub Haley Stacey missing her fifth straight game due to illness, Cornersville was also without the services of center Ashley Umbles, who was nursing a shoulder injury, while point guard Kaleigh Welch was only able to play a handful of minutes because of sickness. The short handed Lady Bulldogs, however, were able to overcome some early adversity and built a 24-17 lead in the first half before outscoring Culleoka 22-8 over the final two quarters to claim the 21-point victory. more

The Forrest Lady Rockets beat Community 53-52 Thursday night in the District 9-A consolation game at Motlow State Community College, but it was not easy as they saw at chance at victory slip out of their hands in regulation, before getting a reprieve in overtime to finish in third place. "It was a good win, especially because we still won even though that was not the best we could have played," said Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean. "But, they really stepped up there and made some big shots when we had to." more
For the first time in four years, another team besides the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (19-8) hoisted the first place plaque at the end of the District 11-A tournament, as CHS lost 40-29 to tourney host Richland in the title game on Monday night in Lynnville. After splitting the regular season series against Cornersville, the second seeded Lady Raiders (19-8) kept the Lady Bulldogs' offense under wraps the entire game and built a 19-12 lead in the first half before outscoring CHS 21-17 over the final two quarters to claim the 11-point win. more
For the second straight year, the Cornersville Bulldogs (5-21) were knocked out of the District 11-A tournament by Santa Fe, as CHS dropped a 49-34 decision on the road to the fourth seeded Wildcats (13-14) in the first round of the tourney on Tuesday night. Having narrowly defeated Cornersville 58-57 in double overtime in their previous meeting on Jan. 29, Santa Fe held a 21-17 lead at halftime of Tuesday's contest before outscoring the fifth seeded Bulldogs 28-17 over the final two quarters to pull away for the 15-point win. more
The MCHS Tigerettes season ended Tuesday night, losing to Summit 41-40 in the first round of the District 12-AA Tournament in Lewisburg. "I am very disappointed," said MCHS head coach David Junkins. "I really felt like we were poised to make a deep push in the tournament. Honestly, this is probably the hardest loss I have had in my career. Until this game I really liked who we had become as a team." more
Sometimes it's over before it even begins. The Marshall County Tigers (15-12) made a surprisingly early exit from the postseason when they were upset 57-47 at home by the sixth seeded Summit Spartans in the first round of the District 12-AA tournament on Tuesday night. MCHS had narrowly defeated Summit (10-17) twice during the regular season and led by as many as seven points in the second quarter of Tuesday's contest before taking a 20-19 advantage into halftime. more
The Forrest Rockets came into Friday night's District 9-A opening round game versus Huntland riding a five-game winning streak and the hot hand continued as they came back from a third quarter deficit to win going away 66-52. "I knew coming in with the great players that they have and how hard they play, it was going to be a battle," said Forrest head coach Wes Hobbs. "I have enjoyed watching Jacob McLennan play so much and he is such a great shooter and he shot it great tonight, but the key was making him take tough shots and we did." more
The Forrest Lady Rockets showed who was boss early in their District 9-A opening round game versus Huntland Friday night in Chapel Hill, jumping out to a 14-0 lead before securing an easy 57-34 coast-to-coast win. "We came out with some really good intensity and we played loose, even though it was a go home game," said Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean. "We did a good job early and kept them from scoring for a while and once we got running we able to score and the more we got running, the more we were able to score, because we all know about their inside game." more
Forrest was in search of win No. 20 on the season and a spot in the District 9-A title game, but instead had to settle for a consolation prize after MTCS held on to beat the Rockets 72-70 in a semifinal match-up Monday night at Motlow State Community College. The Rockets rode into Lynchburg on a six-game winning streak and after a slow start, Forrest came back from an early 9-2 deficit in the first quarter to lead 14-11 after the first eight minutes. more
