The FMS Rockets came up with another strong defensive performance, eking out an 8-6 win over the Community Middle School Vikings Thursday night in Chapel Hill.
"We did a great job, we showed some leadership tonight," said FMS head coach Bart Joyce. "Our defense played good, Deron Osborne and Josh Hill and several guys who stepped it up. We have to get more going on offense, it's a work in progress, and we just got to get it done."
Both squads played tough defense as the Rockets held the Unionville squad to a measly 28 yards of total offense, while Forrest managed just 88 total yards versus Community's defense.

Despite coming up short on the scoreboard, the Cornersville Bulldogs showed some encouraging signs in their Tuesday night scrimmage against former Region 6-A foe Collinwood, as they dropped a hard fought 20-13 decision at home to the Trojans, who finished with a 9-3 record last year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class A playoffs.
Collinwood held a 7-0 lead at the end of the first half before opening up a 14-0 advantage midway through the third quarter. The Bulldogs then scored on consecutive drives to slice the deficit to 14-13 early in the fourth quarter, but the Trojans tacked on another touchdown in the final minute of the contest to take home the seven-point victory.

The Cornersville Bulldogs football team began their preparations for the 2013 season in earnest when they donned full pads for the first time last week.
Although new head coach John Denton has been a member of the CHS staff for four years, he has incorporated some changes in the Bulldogs practice routine.
With music blaring from the football field's speaker system, Cornersville began practice with passing and line drills before the offense ran plays against the defense.
"We've started playing music during practice and the kids love that. It helps keep the team's energy up. We want to create an up tempo environment," said Denton.
