MCHS had won the last 12 meetings against the Patriots and were welcoming back senior guard Aaron Hobbs, who had had sat out the last eight weeks due to a hand injury, but Page (9-16) didn't seemed fazed by the recent history of the series and battled Marshall County to a 70-70 tie at the end of regulation. more
Basketball Awards will be presented to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association prior to the championship game awards presentation for each class, respectively. A statewide committee of sportswriters selected winners based on performance during the 2013-2014 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head basketball coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists. more
The Forrest Rocket wrestling team bounced back as high as you can go after their disappointing loss in the region dual tournament when they captured their first team title at the Region 3 A/AA Individual Tournament at Creekwood. "Our kids made an incredible comeback from the loss in the regional dual tournament and I think that loss helped get our wrestlers even more focused on the region tournament," said Forrest head coach Kyle Stacey. "We came back the week after the regional duals and had one of the best weeks of practice since the beginning of the season." more
The Forrest Lady Rockets survived a fourth quarter sting before coming away with a 53-45 win over the Huntland Lady Hornets in Friday night's opening round of the District 9-A Tournament at Community. "It was a good game for us, but our mistakes led to their points," said Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean. "When things got tight, we reverted back to I gotta do it all by myself on offense and defense and that is something we have to get better at." more
Christ Presbyterian Academy evened the season series with the Marshall County Tigerettes (6-20, 3-7 District) on Friday night when they defeated MCHS 62-35 in Nashville. The Tigerettes beat CPA 45-41 in their previous encounter on Jan. 21 with the help of a strong first half performance, but the Lady Lions (16-9, 8-2 District) turned the tables on Marshall County on Friday and built a 27-18 lead through the opening two quarters of play. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes hopes of hosting a first round District tournament game took a major blow on Thursday night when they dropped a heartbreaking 42-39 decision to first place Giles County in Pulaski. Having defeated MCHS 56-49 in their previous encounter on Jan. 24, the Lady Bobcats (14-8, 8-1 District) built a 26-17 lead in the first half of Thursday's contest, but the Tigerettes (6-19, 3-6 District) battled back and tied the game at 39-39 late in the fourth quarter. more
On Friday night, the Marshall County Tigers (16-9, 6-4 District) suffered their most lopsided loss in 10 years when they were drubbed 100-46 by two-time defending Class AA state champ Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville. Having lost 82-40 to the Lions in their previous meeting on Jan. 21, the Tigers task was made even more daunting by the fact that starting point guard Chris Walker and top reserve Steven Dangerfield were both forced to miss Friday's game due to injuries. more
The Forrest Rockets needed every ounce of team moxy and some late heroics by senior Ty Hoeft in a 44-39 win over long-time rival Eagleville in Saturday night's District 9-A Tournament opener at Community. "It's always a battle with Eagleville and they always seem to step it up at tournament time," said Forrest head coach Wes Hobbs. "Our guys had to match their intensity and we made some shots down the stretch and made some defensive stops when we had to." more
The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs had a relatively easy time advancing to the semifinals of the District 11-A tournament, as they defeated seventh seeded Columbia Academy 59-38 at home on Thursday night in the first round. Facing potential elimination from the playoffs, the Lady Bulldogs (15-11) made sure coach Peyton Newton had a stress free night and built a 34-15 lead in the first half before opening up a 50-24 advantage early in the fourth quarter en route to claiming the 21-point victory. more
Despite losing starting point guard Chris Walker to a high ankle sprain late in the first quarter, the Marshall County Tigers managed to pick up an important District win on Tuesday night when they gutted out a 73-71 overtime victory against fourth place Giles County to snap a six-game losing streak against the Bobcats. "The kids played hard tonight, they executed well and when they play like that it makes me look a little smarter than what I really am," said Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean. "It was all on them tonight, they made big plays, made big stops, and we had some kids step up tonight and play big which gave others confidence." more

After splitting the first two games of the season against Huntland, the Cornersville Bulldogs lost the rubber match on Tuesday night when they dropped a 48-40 decision to the Hornets on the road. Despite being without the services of senior guard Tyler Lowery, who was unable to play due to illness, the Bulldogs (8-17) led for much of the game and held a 35-33 lead with 5:40 left in the fourth quarter. more
The Marshall County Tigers' first ever trip to Wartrace turned into revenge for Cascade as the Champions ran off to a 81-61 win, evening the initial District 11-AA season series in the budding rivalry. "The fan support they had there was great, I liked the atmosphere," said MCHS head coach Adrian Wilson. "We beat ourselves first and foremost, we never got in-sync all night and we were awful defensively. When you give up 80 points in a game, you just didn't play defense." more
Huntland (11-16) completed the season sweep of the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night, as CHS dropped a 47-36 decision to the Lady Hornets on the road. With senior guard Brooke Holt unable to play due to a sprained ankle, the Lady Bulldogs (14-11) trailed by as many as eight points in the third quarter, but rallied to seize a 35-32 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Cornersville, however, came apart at the seams down the stretch, as Huntland outscored CHS 15-1 over the final 3:30 of the contest to record their fourth straight win over the Lady Bulldogs. more
The Marshall County Tigerettes played Cascade on the road Tuesday night, hoping for a season sweep over the Lady Champions, but it was not to be as the Wartrace girls prevailed 65-57. The Tigerettes were not easily staved off by Cascade, giving them all they could handle before a troop shortage due to three players fouling out in the fourth quarter was too much for Lewisburg to handle. more
Although the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (13-9) showed signs of improvement on Thursday night, they were unable bring home a victory, as CHS dropped a 46-36 decision to a solid Moore County Raiderette squad in Lynchburg. The Raiderettes (17-10) held a 30-17 lead early in the third quarter before the Lady Bulldogs rallied to slice the deficit to 35-29 with 7:40 left in the fourth period. Moore County, though, was able to keep Cornersville at arm's length down the stretch and outscored CHS 11-7 the rest of the way to pull away for the 10-point victory. more
Having already beaten Santa Fe and Moore County earlier in the week, the Cornersville Bulldogs continued their late season surge on Friday when they thrashed District foe Hampshire 59-38 on Senior Night to record their fourth straight win over the Hawks. After defeating Hampshire 87-81 in overtime in their previous encounter on Jan. 13, the Bulldogs (8-15, 5-7 District) would need no late game heroics on Friday, as they forged a 28-16 lead in the first half before opening up a 28-point cushion late in the fourth quarter en route to registering their third straight win. more
The Tigerettes needed a win over Spring Hill to solidify third place in the District 11-AA standings, but an anemic second half led to a 45-37 defeat and a season sweep by the Lady Raiders. "At the beginning we looked really well and did all the things we prepared for," said MCHS head coach Jerrie Henry.
