After posting a 3-1 record in pool play, the Marshall County Dusters were eliminated from the Southern Athletic Fields Invitational on Sunday afternoon when they lost 8-7 to the Oakland Patriots in 10 innings at Columbia Central High School in the semifinals of the tournament. Marshall County held a 4-2 lead through the first five innings of play, but the Patriots pushed across four runs in the bottom of the sixth to seize a 6-4 advantage. The Dusters (3-2) tallied two runs in the top of the seventh to knot the game at 6-6 before each team scored a run in the eighth inning. more
On Tuesday night, the Elks (5-1) showed that they aren't going to relinquish their crown without a fight, as the defending champs whipped a previously undefeated A-Plus Collision Center squad 12-4 in six innings to move into a tie for first place in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League standings. APCC (5-1) actually finished with a 7-5 advantage in hits, but committed six costly errors, which led to nine of the Elks' 12 runs. Will Johnson led the Elks at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored, while Jay Lyons (3 RBI), Gage Anderson (1 RBI), and Nathan Thomason each had one hit. more
Nichirin picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday night when they rallied to defeat Marshall Medical Center 10-8 in six innings to avenge an 8-7 loss to MMC eight days earlier. Similar to their previous encounter, Marshall Medical Center (1-5) got off to a fast start and raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning before taking a 7-2 advantage into the bottom of the fourth. more

The Middle Tennessee Mudcats continued their slow start, dropping a pair of games to Summit Wednesday night in Chapel Hill to fall to 0-4 in the summer campaign. In game one, the Spartans won 9-0 in five innings as three Summit pitchers combined to no-hit the Mudcats. Southpaw Zack Mather started on the hill for Summit and allowed just one base runner via an error in his two innings of work to pick up the win. more
High School, will be teaching a kids beginners Tennis Camp at Lewisburg Recreation Center June 2-6 (Monday through Friday). It will be from 10:00 AM to noon each day. Hollingsworth Memorial Park. MMC (1-4) hung tough early on and trailed just 6-5 through the first three innings of play, but the Elks pushed across four runs over the next two frames to stretch their lead to 10-5 before the game's time limit expired at the end of the sixth. more
A-Plus Collision Center ran their record to 5-0 by defeating Nichirin 5-2 on Monday night in six innings at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park to remain in first place in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League standings. After APCC built a 5-0 lead through the first four innings of play, Nichirin (0-5) narrowed the gap to 5-2 in the top of the sixth before the game's time limit expired in the bottom half of the frame. more
Motlow State Community College softball coach Tori Raby-Gentry added another Cornersville player to her program last Tuesday when senior pitcher Taylor Wolaver signed a letter of intent to play for the Lady Bucks. Raby-Gentry is hoping that Wolaver will have a similar impact as former CHS standouts Makenzie Hopkins and Makayla Campbell, who recently completed their sophomore and freshman years respectively at Motlow State. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets, flying the Marshall County flag as the final county team standing last week at the TSSAA Spring Fling in Murfreesboro had their hopes of a second Class-A title squashed in a 7-4 third-round loss to Columbia Academy. "I am very proud of them and proud of their accomplishments this year and I am just so sorry we didn't accomplish our goal of a state championship," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "I just enjoyed every minute of it this season and I wanted so badly, for them to accomplish their goals and I just love this group." more
Nothing went according to plan for the Forrest Rockets (28-13) on Tuesday afternoon, as they suffered an 11-1 loss in five innings to the Boyd Buchanan Buccaneers (29-9) in the first round of the Class A State Tournament at Middle Tennessee Christian School. The Buccaneers took the wind out of Forrest's sails early and built a 7-0 lead through the first two innings of play. After the Rockets trimmed the deficit to 7-1 in the top of the fourth, Boyd Buchanan tallied four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the mercy rule into effect. With Tuesday's loss, Forrest falls into the loser's bracket where they will face Goodpasture on Wednesday morning. more
The high flying Forrest Lady Rockets' offensive machine came skidding to a halt Wednesday night as Gordonsville ace lefty Cori Jennings twirled a two-hit shutout, sending the Chapel Hill girls to the TSSAA Spring Fling Class-A loser's bracket. Lainey Mays had both hits for the Lady Rockets, beating out an infield single in the second inning and lacing a double in the fourth. more
Although the Forrest Rockets (28-14) saw their season come to an end on Wednesday morning, coach Chris Parker's squad didn't go down without a fight, as they dropped a 7-6 decision to the Goodpasture Cougars (35-7) in the loser's bracket of the Class A State Tournament at Middle Tennessee Christian School. Facing a Goodpasture program that has won four state titles over the last 10 years, the Rockets stood toe-to-toe with the private school powerhouse and battled the Cougars to a 4-4 tie through the first four innings of play. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets were not going to repeat last year's first-round Spring Fling dud as they came back from a 2-0 first inning hole with a dozen unanswered runs en-route to a 12-3 opening round shellacking over University High from Johnson City on Tuesday in Murfreesboro. "We got off to a shaky start there defensively," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "But once they got their legs under them they got the bats rolling and when we do what we do, we will be successful." more

MMC appeared headed for an easy victory after racing out to an 8-0 lead through the first two innings of play, but Nichirin came storming back and tallied seven runs over the next two frames to whittle the deficit to 8-7. more
A-Plus Collision Center (3-0) won a battle of unbeaten teams on Monday night when they defeated the Elks 4-2 to claim first place in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League standings. Although the Elks had won 12 straight games dating back to last season, APCC knocked the defending league champs on their heels early and built a 4-0 lead through the first three innings of play. more
Forrest was not intimidated by the defending Class-A state champion Richland Lady Raiders and it showed as the Lady Rockets spotted them one run before turning the tide to capture a convincing 6-2 state sectional win at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill on Sunday. "I was really afraid it would come down to a one-run ballgame and when they went up 1-0, I thought this is not good," said Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham. "But we were able to bounce back and do what we needed to do and I think our girls are better today than what we gave them credit for." more
Number two ranked Summertown seemed to be in a comfortable spot Friday night, playing at home versus Forrest in a Class-A state sectional game and the two-time state champion Eagles came within one out from earning another trip to Murfreesboro before destiny showed up in the evening's waning in Lawrence County in the name of Alex Brewer, who walloped a dramatic seventh inning three-run homerun into the western sky, giving the Rockets a 3-2 lead that held up. more
