The Marshall County Dusters (14-4) advanced to the championship game of the Crethan Hansert Memorial Tournament for the second consecutive year when they defeated tourney host Coffee County 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Marshall County trailed 1-0 through the first three innings of play, but plated two runs in the top of the fourth to seize a 2-1 advantage before Duster starting pitcher Lane Whitesell held the Red Raiders scoreless the rest of the way. more
The Middle Tennessee Mudcats, coming off an eight-day break due to bad weather, returned to the diamond on Thursday for a double-header versus Shelbyville in Chapel Hill and came away with an extra inning 2-2 tie in game one, followed by a wild 4-3 win in the nightcap. The Mudcats looked a little rusty on offense, garnering just seven hits in the two ballgames, but a couple of strong pitching performances saved the day for the Middle Tennessee nine. more

The Mudcats (8-5-1) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning of the late afternoon contest versus Columbia as Hayden Dodson walked with one out, stole second, and went to third on a passed ball before scoring on an RBI base hit by Terrance Seaton. more
The Marshall County Dusters (15-4) captured their second straight Crethan Hansert Memorial Tournament title on Sunday night when they defeated the Stewarts Creek Red Hawks 11-7 in the championship game at Coffee County High School. Stewarts Creek had beaten Marshall County 6-5 in their pool game on Thursday, but the Dusters turned the tables on the Red Hawks in Sunday's contest and built an 8-4 lead through the first four and a half innings of play. more

MCHS head baseball coach steps aside after 38 years on staff Marshall County High School lost one of the longtime faces of Tiger athletics when baseball coach Steve Reese recently resigned. Having been a part of MCHS' baseball program for previous 38 years, Reese spent the last five years as the head coach of the Tigers and compiled a 105-53-1 record during that span. Under Reese's guidance, Marshall County advanced to the Region tournament three times, won one District regular season title, captured one District tournament championship, and reached the Sectional round of the playoffs once. more
The Elks (6-1) reeled off their fourth straight win on Monday night when they thrashed Nichirin 12-1 in four innings at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park to maintain a share of first place in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League standings. Bolstered by a six run first inning, the Elks finished with eight hits and five walks against Nichirin starting pitcher Hunter Haurez and reliever Jacob Autry. Ben Taylor led the Elks offensive attack by going 3-for-3 with a double, a RBI, and three runs scored. Jay Lyons (3 RBI), Mitchell Ford (2 RBI), shortstop Austin Wood (1 RBI), starting pitcher Will Johnson ( 1 RBI), and Gage Anderson each notched one hit for the Elks as well. more
After watching the Elks win earlier in the evening, A-Plus Collision Center (6-1) kept pace with their fellow Marshall County Babe Ruth League co-leader by defeating a mistake prone Marshall Medical Center squad 8-5 in six innings on Monday night. APCC held a 4-2 lead through the first five innings of play before breaking the game open by plating four runs in the top of the sixth to forge an 8-2 advantage. more
On Tuesday evening, A-Plus Collision Center (7-1) defeated Nichirin (1-7) for the third time this season when they rolled to a 12-1 victory in four innings to remain in a tie for first place with the Elks in the Marshall County Babe Ruth League Standings. Bolstered by six-run fourth inning, APCC finished with nine hits and five walks against Nichirin starting hurler Hunter Bradford and reliever Quinten Martinez. Nichirin's defense also did their pitching staff no favors by committing five errors, which led to six of A-Plus Collision Center's 12 runs. more
The Elks (7-1) staved off a potential upset bid by Marshall Medical Center on Tuesday night when they rallied for a 9-5 victory at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park after overcoming a late two-run deficit. MMC (1-7) appeared to have the defending Marshall County Babe Ruth League champs on the ropes and held a 3-1 lead through the first five innings of play. The Elks, however, came storming back in the bottom of the sixth and exploded for eight runs in the frame to seize a 9-3 lead before taking home the four-run victory. more

Playing five innings instead of the usual seven, the Dusters (6-3) appeared to be in control of the game after building a 5-0 lead through the first three frames. Marshall County, however, stumbled down the stretch, as the Hawks crossed home plate six times over the final two frames to escape with the one-run victory. more
The Middle Tennessee Mudcats sizzled in the summer heat at Spring Hill Tuesday, coming away with a hard earned double-header sweep (6-4, 9-3) to even their record at 5-5. The Mudcats opened the twin bill being held scoreless for three innings by Spring Hill pitcher Zack King, who held a 2-0 lead before leaving in the top of the fourth when Middle Tennessee came up with three runs. Alex Brewer got things going for the Mudcats, lashing a leadoff triple before Zach Harrison beaned Austin Harmon, who promptly stole second base. more
The Marshall County Dusters began the 2014 summer baseball season with a thud, as they lost 9-2 in five innings to the Summit Spartans in the 17th Annual Southern Athletic Fields Invitational on Thursday afternoon at Columbia Central High School. After Summit built a 4-0 lead through the first three innings of play, the Dusters narrowed the gap to 4-2 in the top of the fourth before the Spartans brought the mercy rule into effect by pushing across five runs over the next two frames. more

The two team were locked in a 1-1 tie through the first four innings of play, but the Dusters grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth before crossing home plate three more times in the seventh inning to pull away for the four-run victory. more
