On Monday night, the Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs (4-4) recorded their fourth straight win over Richland by whipping the Raiders 49-25 in Lynnville. The Lady Bulldogs (5-3), meanwhile, had their modest two-game winning streak snapped when they dropped a 30-26 decision to the Lady Raiders in the opening game of the evening. After defeating Richland handily three times last season, the Bulldogs once again had their way with the Raiders on Monday and raced out to a 17-4 lead in the first quarter behind 13 points from point guard Eli Woodard. more
Defense carried the day for the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (2-1) on Monday night, as they grinded out a 23-12 victory over the E.A. Cox Lady Cougars (0-1) at home. After building a 14-4 lead in the first half, the Tigerettes never let E.A. Cox pull any closer than eight points over the final two quarters en route to claiming their second win of the year. Lewisburg shot just 17 percent (9-of-52) from the field and made only 1-13 three-point attempts, but committed a season low seven turnovers and outrebounded the Lady Cougars 38-35, which included a 17-4 edge on the offensive glass. more
The Lewisburg Middle School Tigers recorded their third straight lopsided victory on Monday night when they thumped the E.A. Cox Cougars 60-36 at home. LMS (3-0) buried the Cougars early and built a 32-14 lead in the first half before outscoring E.A. Cox 28-22 over the final two quarters to coast to the 24-point victory. The Tigers offense was firing on all cylinders for much of the night, they knocked down 5-of-11 three-pointers en route to shooting 47 percent (26-of-55) from the field while committing only 10 turnovers and dishing out 19 assists as a team. more
The Forrest Lady Rockets opened the 2014-2015 campaign with a thrilling 44-41 Hall of Fame game overtime win over 3A Ravenwood Tuesday night in Chapel Hill. "It was a good win for us," said Forrest head coach Jeremy Jean. "It was exciting if you were watching, I don't know how exciting over there where we were." Forrest was stoked to start the contest as sophomore Caitlin Yost came out on fire, nailing two field goals and a pair of three throws, giving the Lady Rockets a 6-0 lead to begin the game. more
Forrest senior standout Katie Warrick's girlhood dream came to fruition on National Signing Day in Chapel Hill when she accepted a softball scholarship with UT Martin on Monday. "I'm really excited, I have been waiting for this since I was eight years old," said Warrick. "It's my life, I've been playing since I was three years old so I just love it." When Warrick takes her spot on the Field of Dreams in early March, she will become only one of a handful of Lady Rockets who will have started for five years. more
The FMS Rockets stayed the unbeaten conference course Thursday night in Chapel Hill, easily cruising to their ninth consecutive league win via a 54-33 victory over Moore County. The Rockets played the inside/outside game once again as Daniil Yatskov led the big guys with 15 points, while Ryley McClaran led the little guys with 13 points against a Raider squad that fell behind early and could never catch up. more
After scratching their way to the five hundred mark on the season, the FMS Lady Rockets stumbled against Moore County in Chapel Hill Thursday night, losing 28-23 in a low scoring affair. Forrest's Sydney Hill went to the free throw line on the first offensive possession of the game and hit one attempt before Moore County's Abbi Harvey scored her only basket of the game. more
On Saturday, November 8, the Marshall County High School swim team opened their season at the Wellness and Aquatics Complex in Columbia. The High School team consists of students from MCHS, FHS, and CHS. They competed against division rivals Spring Hill, Columbia Academy, Summertown, Columbia Central, and Lawrence County. more
Both Lewisburg Middle School basketball teams enjoyed lopsided road wins on Thursday night, as the Tigerettes picked up their first victory of the season by thumping Fairview 38-15, while the Tigers whipped the Yellow Jackets 60-36 in the nightcap. The Tigerettes (1-1) got things rolling early and raced out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter behind eight points from point guard Demariae Ingram and baskets from Alexia Udell, Lexi Cashion, and Hannah Davis. more
On Friday night, the Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs (5-2) picked up their second win in two days by pounding the Santa Fe Lady Wildcats 36-8 at home. The Bulldogs were unable to follow suit, however, and suffered their fourth loss of the season when they dropped a 41-26 decision to the Wildcats in the nightcap. After building a 7-2 lead in the first quarter thanks to three points from Sarah Beth Prosser and a pair of baskets from Gabby King and Demi Peters, the Lady Bulldogs outscored Santa Fe 12-0 in the second period behind four points apiece from Prosser, King, and Peters to open up a 19-2 advantage. more
After her team's three-game winning streak was snapped by Ethridge two days earlier, Cornersville Middle School forward Sarah Beth Prosser helped CMS start a new one on Thursday night, as she scored a career high 21 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 39-15 road victory over the Culleoka Lady Warriors. The Lady Warriors (4-3) actually held an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Cornersville (4-2) dominated the game from that point on and outscored Culleoka 32-4 over the final three periods to roll to the 24-point victory. more
The Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs (3-3) turned in their best all-around performance of the season on Thursday night when they went on the road and hammered the Culleoka Warriors 57-24. Cornersville took control of the game early and built a 26-13 lead in the first half before outscoring the Warriors 31-11 over the final two quarters to pull away for the 33-point victory. more
The FMS basketball squads came up with a pair of big wins Monday night in Chapel Hill, beginning with a 28-17 win by the Lady Rockets and that was followed with a huge 39-30 win by the Rockets in a battle of the conference unbeaten. In the girls' game, the Lady Rockets completely stymied the Lady Patriots on the defensive end, pitching a rare first-half shutout. Forrest came out flying with Sydney Hill scoring the first four points of the game, followed by a Kayla Gillespie fast-break bucket to make it 7-0. more
The Marshall County Tigers' stellar regular season didn't translate into postseason success, as MCHS was knocked out of the Class 4A playoffs in the first round for the third straight year when they suffered a gut wrenching 38-35 loss to archrival Giles County on Friday night at home. Having defeated Giles County 34-17 just seven days earlier, the Tigers (8-3) held a 28-17 lead midway through the third quarter of Friday's contest, but saw starting quarterback Ashton Posey get knocked out of the game with an injury on their fourth touchdown drive. more
The Forrest Rockets suffered a devastating first-round 35-30 playoff loss to Decatur County Riverside Friday night at Murrey E. Holton Field in Chapel Hill, shooting themselves in the foot with a series of third-quarter mistakes that they would not overcome. "It was a tale of two halves, I thought we played well the first half defensively, but we gave up two punch kicks there in the second half," said Forrest coach Matt Kriesky. "You can't make those mistakes in a playoff game, especially against a good team, we knew Riverside was going to be tough coming in. That Drake Smith is a great quarterback and (Shemar) Porter is good too, we had a hard time containing them and tackling them and you can't do that against a good football team like this." more
The Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs (3-2) had their three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night when they dropped a 22-21 decision on the road to Ethridge Elementary School. With Cornersville's leading scorer Gabby King relegated to the bench for much of the game due to foul trouble, Ethridge held a 10-9 lead at halftime prior to opening up an 18-10 advantage early in the fourth quarter. more
The FMS Lady Rockets, riding a three-game winning streak, ran into a buzz saw Tuesday night in Chapel Hill as the Middle Tennessee Christian School Lady Cougars busted the streak with a 39-22 win. It looked good for the Lady Rockets when Sydney Hill matched an MTCS bucket off the opening tip, but things went downhill in a hurry as the Lady Cougars went on a 10-0 run the remainder of the first quarter to take a 12-2 lead, entering period No. 2. more
The Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes saw their three-game winning streak against Spring Hill go by the wayside on Monday night when they lost 33-17 to the Lady Generals on the road in their season opener. Spring Hill (3-0) dominated the game in the first half and led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter before taking an 18-6 lead into the break. more
The FMS Rockets continued their early season dominance in conference play Monday night in Chapel Hill, moving to 5-0 over league opponents via a coast-to-coast 46-30 win over Westwood. Forrest started the game with some heavy work in the paint as Daniil Yatskov scored on back-to-back baskets. more
