For the first time in 11 years the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs (9-18) failed to advance past the first round of the District 11-A tournament after getting drubbed 66-37 by Columbia Academy at home on Monday night.
The two teams split the regular season series, but everything that could go wrong did go wrong for the Lady Bulldogs, as CA (11-17) roared out to a 35-17 lead in the first half before outscoring Cornersville 31-20 over the final two quarters to advance to the District tournament semifinals.

The tears started to flow before time ran out in Forrest's 2014 campaign that ended in a tough 53-47 loss to Moore County in the opening round of the District 9-A Tournament in Eagleville Monday night.
"When we get our heads down we struggle, when were are playing happy we are pretty darn good," said Forrest coach Jeremy Jean. "The kids played hard, they gave it all they had and that's all we can ask for."

Cornersville High School concluded a relatively quick search for its next head football coach when they selected Gerard Randolph to lead their program last week.
Randolph has been the head coach of the boys' basketball program at Cornersville for the last three years, but cited a desire to coach football again after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at CHS and Marshall County High School from 2009 to 2011.

For the second year in a row, five Forrest wresters will be making the trip to the TSSAA Class A-AA State Wrestling Championships after a solid showing at the Region 3 A-AA tournament in Eagleville last weekend.
"This is always a bitter sweet day because you will be happy for the ones who made it, but feel bad for the ones who didn't," said Forrest coach Kyle Stacey.

The Huntland Hornets (16-9) spoiled Senior Night for the Cornersville Bulldogs when they defeated CHS 61-47 on Tuesday to complete the sweep of the season series.
Huntland had whipped Cornersville 76-47 in their previous meeting on Jan. 8, but the Bulldogs (2-20) managed to stay within striking distance for much of Tuesday's contest and trailed just 45-38 early in the fourth quarter.
Cornersville, however, couldn't get over the hump, as the Hornets outscored the Bulldogs 16-9 over the final 7:15 to pull away for the 14-point victory.

On Tuesday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs lost to Huntland for the sixth straight time when they dropped a 58-39 decision to the Lady Hornets at home on Senior Night.
Despite getting off to a sluggish start offensively, Huntland held a 28-16 lead at halftime before outscoring Cornersville 30-23 over the final two quarters to take home the 19-point victory.
After hitting just 3-of-18 field goal attempts in the first period, the Lady Hornets shot 49 percent (21-of-43) over the final three quarters to finish 24-of-61 from the floor overall, which included a 4-of-16 effort from three-point range.

Its baseball, softball, and tennis time for the Lewisburg Middle School athletes after both basketball teams were eliminated from the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association Class AAA Area Tournament Monday night at the Shelton Gymnasium in Lewisburg.
The Tigerettes lost 40-12 to Oakland Middle School, while the Tigers' run of great post-seasons ended in a 67-30 defeat at the hands of Rock Springs Middle School.

The Marshall County Tigerettes lost the battle in the low post versus Cascade Tuesday night at Dottie Kelso Memorial Gymnasium.
Cascade's three tree trio of Shania Schneider (23 pts.), Maya Gaston (13), and Summer Carter (6) combined for four more points in the paint than the Tigerettes totaled all game in the 57-38 loss.

The Forrest Lady Rockets (19-7) simply had too much firepower for county rival Cornersville on Monday night, as coach Jeremy Jean's squad went on the road and drubbed the Lady Bulldogs 70-37 to complete the sweep of the season series.
Forrest blew the game open early and raced out to a 45-21 lead in the first half before outscoring Cornersville 25-16 over the final two quarters to cruise to its fifth straight win over the Lady Bulldogs (9-15).

Senior center Blake Leonard helped Forrest (9-17) snap a two-game losing streak on Monday night by pouring in a game high 21 points to help lead the Rockets to a 66-38 road victory over county rival Cornersville (2-19).
Aided by a strong first quarter performance, Forrest held a 35-23 lead at the break before pulling away in the second half and outscoring the Bulldogs 31-15 over the final two periods to complete the sweep of the season series.

Make the most of your opportunities. Marshall County High School senior Cale Shelton did just that, as he parlayed a strong 2014 campaign into a football scholarship to Tusculum College on Wednesday at the MCHS auditorium.
After seeing very limited playing time his first three years at Marshall County, Shelton got a chance to showcase his skills under new coach Thomas Osteen and became a key member of the Tiger defense at his Star position, which combines the responsibilities of a safety and a linebacker.

While he is usually soft spoken, Marshall County High School senior Kacy Pleas has a reason to brag some after signing a letter of intent to play football at Lindsey Wilson College on Wednesday morning at the MCHS auditorium.
A three-year starter for the Tigers at wide receiver, Pleas has been a steady and reliable player for Marshall County during his career and earned All-District honors twice.

Forrest's January slide continued Friday night in Chapel Hill with the latest setback coming by the sting of the Huntland Hornets, who pulled off a 48-44 comeback win on Homecoming.
"We had a good stretch and then it came down to hitting free throws, but we just couldn't hit them," said Forrest senior Will Edmonson.

The Marshall County Tigerettes gave it their best shot on Friday night, but were unable to defeat District rival Spring Hill, as they dropped a hard fought 60-52 decision to the Lady Raiders on the road.
Having lost to Spring Hill 67-46 in its previous meeting on Jan. 13, the Tigerettes (6-16, 2-6 District) appeared poised to knock off the third place Lady Raiders on Friday after building a 47-40 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Spring Hill likely dealt a fatal blow to the Marshall County Tigers' District 12-AA regular season title hopes on Friday night, as MCHS fell 57-54 to the fifth place Raiders on the road.
After whipping Spring Hill 77-55 in its previous encounter on Jan. 13, the Tigers (15-8, 6-2) held a 42-37 lead late in the third quarter of Friday's contest before the Raiders rallied to pull ahead 48-42 with 5:42 left in the fourth period.

On Friday night, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs stayed in the running for the third seed in the upcoming District 11-A tournament by defeating the Hampshire Lady Hawks 75-55 on the road.
Aided by the full fledged return of senior guard Tate Lowery from a knee injury, the Bulldogs snapped an eight-game losing streak when they pulled out a hard fought 84-79 victory over Hampshire to claim its sixth straight win over the Hawks.
