After a season opening 9-3 loss to Columbia Academy on March 14, the Forrest Rockets have won three games in row under first-year coach Jimmy Nave.
Rockets ace pitcher Logan Hollingsworth tossed just one-inning on the hill in the loss to the Bulldogs before coming back two days later with a solid five-inning effort at Community, evening his record at 1-1.

After four years on the bench, Wes Hobbs resigned as Forrest basketball coach on Tuesday, citing personals reasons.
"This was an extremely difficult decision to make, my entire tenure at Forrest I was blessed to have the support of our faculty, administrators, athletic director, parents, and assistant coaches and for that, I will be forever thankful," said Hobbs. "After many prayers and meaningful discussions with my family, I decided that this will be the right decision for me at this time. For me, it has always been God/Church, family, friends, and then job."

Coming in to the season, Forrest head coach Becky Cheatham wanted her seniors to step up and carry the team on their shoulders.
That is exactly what happened in Thursday's season opener at Fayetteville as seniors Katie Warrick, Kiyoko Puca, and Briar Mayes did heavy damage, with a big helping hand from sophomore Samantha King.

E.O. Coffman (2-0) spoiled Donald Jean's debut as Forrest Middle School's new softball coach when they defeated the Lady Rockets 3-2 in five innings at Summertown.
Forrest held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning, but the Lady Panthers pushed across three runs over the next two frames to seize a 3-2 advantage before holding the Lady Rockets scoreless the rest of the way to hold on for the win.

E.O. Coffman (1-0) snapped the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes' three-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon when the Lady Panthers thumped LMS 9-1 in four innings at Summertown.
The Tigerettes (3-2) had scored a total of 32 runs over their previous three games, but saw their bats go silent against E.O. Coffman and mustered only two hits against two Lady Panther pitchers.

Summertown (3-0) snatched victory from the jaws of defeat on Saturday night, as the Lady Eagles rallied from a late three-run deficit to defeat the Forrest Middle School Lady Rockets 5-3 in five innings.
Forrest (0-2) held a 3-0 lead through the first four innings of play, but Summertown came storming back in the top of the fifth and pushed across five runs in the frame to seize a 5-3 advantage.

The Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (3-1) reeled off their third straight win on Saturday afternoon when they crushed the South Lawrence Lady Stallions 16-1 in three innings at Summertown.
After allowing one run in her last outing against Whitthorne five days earlier, LMS starting pitcher Brooklin Conger turned in another quality performance in the circle to pick up her second win of the season, as she yielded just one unearned run on one hit while notching three strikeouts and issuing no walks.

After helping to lead Marshall County's baseball program to numerous victories as an assistant coach over the last three decades, Mike Reese notched his first win as the head coach of the Tigers on Monday evening when MCHS (1-0) hammered the Hume-Fogg Knights 17-0 in five innings at Rose Park in Nashville.
"It obviously feels good and I'm excited for the guys," said Reese. "It's always exciting to start the season with a win and I'm proud of the way the guys played. It was also nice to come up and play in a college ballpark. I think it was a good experience for our players."

Damp weather makes scheduling games a nightmare
In eight years as a sports writer I have never seen weather affect the spring sports season in the county like it has this year.
This is by far the busiest portion of the prep sports calendar with baseball, softball, tennis, and boys' soccer making for wall-to-wall coverage from opening day of high school on March 9 to graduation day the third week in May.

The Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes ran their record to 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon when they defeated the South Giles Lady Eagles 2-1 at home behind a strong performance from starting pitcher Marlee Woodward.
After the Tigerettes jumped out an early 2-0 lead, the Lady Eagles (0-1) narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

Coming off two of the most successful seasons in the history of the program, the Cornersville Bulldogs hope to make another deep playoff run during the 2015 campaign with the help of seven returning starters from last year's squad.
In 2013, the Bulldogs captured the District 11-A tournament title en route to advancing to the Class A State Tournament for the first time in the history of the program.

After losing to Summertown 4-0 in their season opener on Saturday, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes handed new coach Beau Hardison his first win on Monday night when they crushed Whitthorne Middle School 14-1 at home in six innings.
The Tigerettes (1-1) saw their bats stay hot in the chilly conditions and pounded out 17 hits against two Whitthorne pitchers.

It was a tough season for high school basketball fans in the county with five out of the six teams being eliminated in the first round of district tournament competition.
The exception was the Marshall County Tigers, who finished up a solid season by advancing to the Region 6-AA semifinals for the first time since 2011.
The low point of the year and a big shock to everyone was all three county girls' teams losing in the first round of their respective district tournaments, a setback that is believed to be for the first time.

Having failed to advance past the District 11-A tournament the last three years, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs are looking to get over the hump this season with the help of eight returning starters from a squad that posted a 16-12 record and placed third in the conference during the 2014 campaign.
Senior starting pitcher Mary Taylor Hickman leads a very strong Cornersville pitching staff after posting an 8-4 record, tallying a 1.53 ERA, and racking up 135 strikeouts last year en route to earning All-District honors. Hickman possesses an overpowering fastball and can keep hitters off balance with her rise ball and changeup.

The Marshall County Tigers' playoff run came to a screeching halt on Thursday night, as the high flying Creek Wood Red Hawks (30-0) defeated MCHS 93-64 in the semifinals of the Region 6-AA tournament in Charlotte.
Creek Wood brought the hammer down early against Marshall County (18-11) and forged a 49-28 lead in the first half before outscoring MCHS 44-36 over the final two quarters to claim the 29-point victory.

The Marshall County Tigers baseball team is looking to return to prominence after notching an 18-11 record last season and failing to advance past the District 12-AA tournament for the first time in four years.
Although the Tigers scored 5.5 runs per contest and saw their pitching staff finish with a 2.37 ERA last season, they struggled to field the ball consistently and averaged nearly three errors per game during the 2014 campaign.

The more you yearn for something, the harder it seems to grab on to.
The Marshall County Tigers had victory firmly in its hands, let it slip away, and then snatched it back to win 46-42 over Camden Central in the Region 6-AA Tournament opener in Lewisburg Tuesday night.
