Cornersville ace lefty David Looney halted Forrest's post-season dreams Friday night at Chapel Hill, tossing a four-hitter to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win in the Class-A sectional game.
The Bulldogs will take on Huntingdon at Middle Tennessee Christian School in the opening round of the TSSAA Spring Fling on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Summertown (29-8) captured its third straight Region 6-A tournament championship on Wednesday night when the Eagles defeated the Cornersville Bulldogs 10-0 in five innings at CHS.
Despite Wednesday's setback, the Bulldogs (18-10) still advance to the Sectional round of the playoffs where they will take on county rival Forrest tonight in Chapel Hill, while Summertown will host Region 5-A runner-up Nashville Christian.

Garvin no-hits NCS; Forrest takes 5-A crown
It was all fun and games in Chapel Hill Wednesday night as the Forrest Rockets (21-8), hosted the Nashville Christian School Eagles in the Region 5-A championship game.
The fun was a no-hitter by senior Tanner Garvin and a 6-0 win that earned Forrest a state sectional game at Chapel Hill Friday night versus county rival Cornersville, who lost 10-0 at home to Summertown.

It was an evening of domination and destruction for the Forrest Lady Rockets at East Robertson Wednesday night.
"I really didn't expect this, because they are usually a sound offensive and defensive team," said Forrest coach Becky Cheatham.

Cornersville High School senior Alexis Easterwood will get to compete on pitch for four more years after signing a letter of intent to play soccer at Martin Methodist College on Friday afternoon at the CHS gymnasium.
Easterwood first caught the eye of the Martin Methodist coaching staff at a tryout camp last August and was offered a scholarship a week later. She will be joining a traditionally strong Red Hawk program that posted a 14-6-1 record last season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament.

The Marshall County Tigerettes (19-10) were playing host to the Camden Central Lady Lions Monday night at Reese Hambrick Softball field.
Being that the winner of this matchup solidified their spot in the sub-state, it was a win-and-advance or lose-and-go-home situation for both teams.

Forrest did that after a sub-par performance against Houston County Monday night in the Region 5-A Tournament opener at the Field of Dreams at Chapel Hill.
The Lady Rockets beat the Lady Irish from Erin, 3-2, earning a shot at the region title Wednesday night at East Robertson, who sneaked by Community, 2-1, in Cross Plains.

Senior pitcher David Looney was at his best when Cornersville needed him the most, as the Bulldog staff ace tossed his fifth shutout of the season to lead CHS to a 5-0 home victory over the Loretto Mustangs (23-12) in the first round of the Region 6-A tournament on Monday night.
Facing the prospect of elimination from the playoffs, the Bulldogs (18-9) tallied a run in the bottom of the third to grab a 1-0 lead before crossing home plate four more times in the fifth inning to claim their fifth straight win.

Just a few weeks ago, the Forrest Rockets didn't seem to have any hope of post-season success until a coaching change brought Bart Joyce to the helm.
Since losing a double-header to Eagleville on April 14, the Rockets have won nine of ten games under Joyce, including four straight in the post-season with the latest a 6-5 win over District 10-A runners-up East Robertson Monday night in the Region 5-A Tournament opener in Chapel Hill.

Friday night in Pulaski, another chapter in a classic rivalry that has been raging for decades played out on the field as the Giles County Lady Bobcats hosted the Marshall County Tigerettes, who needed just one win to claim the District 12-AA Tournament title.
Offense prevailed in game one, while pitching eventually won out for the Tigerettes.

The top two teams in District 12AA were squaring off Wednesday night for a chance to win and move on to the district championship game.
The Marshall County Tigerettes (18-8) travelled to Pulaski to take on the host Giles County Lady Bobcats. Having split the regular-season series, it was not a surprise that the game came down to the end with the Tigerettes eventually winning 4-2 in eight innings.

Wednesday night, the Cornersville Bulldogs (17-9) captured their second District 11-A tournament title in three years by defeating the Richland Raiders 5-3 in the championship game at Columbia Academy.
Cornersville had won all three previous meetings against Richland this season, which included an 11-1 victory in the second round of the tournament five days earlier, but the Raiders put some early pressure on CHS in Wednesday's contest and held a 3-0 lead through the first two and a half innings.

The Forrest Rockets made a clean sweep of the District 9-A Tournament, outscoring its opponents 38-9 in three games with the clincher coming Wednesday night in Chapel Hill via a 14-4, run-rule win over Middle Tennessee Christian School (MTCS) in the title game.
"I can't take any credit for this, these guys played stellar baseball and worked hard for the past two or three weeks since I have been here and it paid off," said Forrest coach Bart Joyce. "Look at them, they are season champs, district champs and now we are playing Monday in the region tournament, so I am proud of all the players."
