Catcher's tireless dedication pays off with scholarship
Playing the catching position in baseball is a thankless job at times.
Hauling 120 pounds of gear around, donning that heavy protective equipment in the sizzling heat, getting constantly hit with foul balls, and being in charge of making sure the correct pitches are called throughout the games.

After reeling in Marshall County High School shortstop Ashton Watkins a few days earlier, Motlow State Community College softball coach Tori Raby-Gentry netted another MCHS player on Friday morning when senior first baseman McKenzie Anderson signed a letter of intent to play for the Lady Bucks.
"It's very exciting to play with Ashton because we grew up playing ball together. Now we get to play with each other for two more years," said Anderson.

Good times will be remembered
In a way we all live vicariously through everyone we meet in our lifetime, especially the people that we care about or the many that have touched or encouraged us to go beyond who we thought we were.
For me, growing up, most of those special people played or coached baseball.

Boyd Buchanan (29-10) knocked the Cornersville Bulldogs (20-12) out of the Class A State Tournament on Wednesday night when the Buccaneers defeated CHS 11-0 in five innings at Middle Tennessee Christian School in the second round of the loser's bracket.
Although Cornersville saw their season end on a disappointing note, the Bulldogs didn't let that tarnish their gritty playoff run, which saw them reach the Spring Fling for the second time in three years and record the second victory at the State Tournament in the program's history.

It seemed like a very large portion of Chapel Hill residents were at the big game on Thursday at the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's Spring Fling to urge their Lady Rockets on in the winner's bracket final of the State Softball Championships.
It turned out to be a game that will be remembered for decades to come as part of the rich history of the program---and maybe one of the most important.
Forrest and Grace Christian School from Knoxville battled for nine innings before the Lady Rockets broke through with four runs in the 10th inning in what turned out to be a 6-4 win.

The Sectional round rematch between Cornersville and Forrest lived up to the hype, as the Bulldogs pulled out a hard fought 2-1 victory over the Rockets in Chapel Hill on Friday night to earn their second Class A State Tournament bid in three years.
Cornersville had defeated Forrest 4-1 in Sectionals two years ago to reach the State Tournament for the first time in the program's history, but the Rockets (21-9) appeared to be on the verge of avenging that setback on Friday and held a 1-0 lead through the first five innings of play.

February 9, the first day of spring sports practice seems like a thousand years ago when it was all fresh, not knowing what was ahead.
One month later, the season officially began and so did the crazy weather that pushed teams' progression back and made scheduling difficult because of all the rain that hit the mid-state.

The mark of a good ball club is coming away with wins when you're not clicking on all cylinders.
That's exactly what Forrest did in the first round of the TSSAA Spring Fling as they scraped up an 8-3 win over Meigs County on Tuesday.
"It's always good to come over here and start out with a 'W'," we feel a lot better than they feel with that 'L' besides their name," said Forrest coach Becky Cheatham.
