Forrest coach Randy Toombs witnessed his team lose the first two games of the season last week, but the first-year headman is optimistic about his squad's potential after the Rockets had good showings versus Lincoln County and Summertown. "It's like we are almost there and it is painful to watch, because you say we are over it, then oh we are not over it," Toombs said. The FMS hoops squads returned home Monday night after a tough stretch that saw the boys lose three-in-a-row, while the Lady Rockets had dropped two-out-of the last three games. Both squads came up with big wins versus Middle Tennessee Christian School Monday at Chapel Hill with the girls posting an easy 48-21 win, while the Rockets (10-6) survived a tough Cougar squad 64-61. more
Tigers outlast Hurricanes with a strong dose of defense The Marshall County took to the road on Friday night to face the East Hamilton Hurricanes in Chattanooga and despite the two-hour drive the visitors brought a huge crowd to see the Tigers compete in their first semifinal appearance in 31 years. The high powered Marshall County (12-1) offense would need a little help from the defense on this night and like so many games in this magical season, the defense refused to allow a second half score as the Tigers hung on in a nail bitter for the 17-7 win. more

The Marshall County Tigers tipped off their hoops season Tuesday night at Fayetteville City and came away with an exciting 81-73 overtime win. "I am very proud and happy for the guys, especially those who are role players that got a chance to experience game time situations," MCHS coach Arnett Bodenhamer said. "I feel the guys fought and played hard for four quarters, and as a coach that's a positive note." more
Marshall County hits road for East Hamilton tonight Tiger fans most likely figured a win against Livingston Academy would mean a trip to Crossville and showdown between undefeated Region 3-4A champ Stone Memorial. When the final scores rolled in after Friday night's 49-13 victory, the Tigers instead booked a trip east to Chattanooga where they will face East Hamilton. The third-seeded Hurricanes (8-4) avenged an earlier 14-7 loss at Stone Memorial, winning in convincing fashion over the fifth ranked Panthers 28-16. more
The Tigerettes took on the Lady Raiders of Richland on Monday night looking to finish a complete game after giving up a commanding lead to claim a five-point victory over E.A. Cox on Thursday night. The Tigerettes jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in the first quarter behind strong inside play from Hannah Davis (4 points) and Courtney Agnew (3 points). more
LMS traveled to E.A. Cox Thursday night and came away with a split over the Cougars as the Tigerettes won 27-22 before the boys lost the nightcap 47-35. The Tigerettes (6-1) opened up against with a dominating first-quarter performance behind four points inside by Hannah Davis and a three by Karlye Wiser. Explosive offense leads second-round victory Marshall County came into Friday's game looking to win a second-round playoff game for the first time since 2011 and just the fifth time in the history of the program against the upstart Livingston Academy (7-5) which derailed Lawrence County by over 30 points to get a chance at the Tigers. Livingston looked like a shell of the team that won handily in the opening round on Friday as the Tigers (11-1) sent a message to the rest of Class 4A that the 2015 version of Marshall County would be a force to be reckoned with after a 49-13 dismantling of Livingston Academy behind 28 second quarter points by the home team. more
The Forrest Middle School girls pushed their winning streak to nine games Tuesday night, trampling Cornersville Middle School 54-16 at Chapel Hill. "Cornersville is getting better than the first time we played them," said FMS coach David Junkins, whose team has compiled its win run after opening with two losses. Team confident going into battle with state-tested Livingston Academy Top-seeded Marshall County is now the lone survivor representing Region 4-4A following a convincing 54-7 win over the Region 3 fourth seed Cumberland County with second-seeded Livingston Academy, which beat a sub-par Lawrence County squad 42-13 next in line for the Tigers in the TSSAA state playoffs. The Lady Bulldogs of Cornersville Middle School played host to long-time rival Richland on Monday in Cornersville, and except for a brief third-quarter run by the Raiders, the Lady Bulldogs dominated for a 46-30 victory. "It starts with our defense," CMS coach Peyton Newton stressed. "We know we have a hard time scoring. We're not great shooters right now. If our defense is good, we get some steals then we can get some easy transition baskets. Tonight. our defense was as good as it's been, so you put those together and that's how we got the outcome we did." more
