Rivalries don't have to be ancient.
From March 30, 2010 to March 27, 2014 the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs dominated District 11-A foe Mt. Pleasant 10-0, but since that 4-2 win at Maury County two years ago, the Lady Tigers have knocked Cornersville out of the district tournament twice and have won four-of-seven games in the series.
The latest setback for Cornersville was a heartbreaker, losing 2-0 in 9 innings in Frog Bottom Tuesday night.

Mistakes were costly for the Marshall County Tigers Friday night as they committed five errors and had four passed balls in a 6-5 loss to Tullahoma at Lewisburg. "Those early mistakes hurt us," said MCHS coach Mike "Monk" Reese. "We battled back and left the bases loaded twice, so we were one hit away."...

It was an early season test for two county softball rivals as Marshall County travelled to Cornersville Thursday night where the Tigerettes outlasted the Lady Bulldogs 7-3.
"We hit when runners were on, I think almost every time we got a runner to second or third, we got a hit to drive those runners home," MCHS coach Heather Denton said. "And defensively, Sheroski (Allison) and Leah (Hollingsworth) came up with huge plays for us and Hannah Sheppard on a throw to home on a runner trying to take home on an error was huge. We made some key plays at key moments."

Having the target on your back is a good thing because it means everyone is chasing your success and that was the case for the defending Class A state champion Forrest Lady Rockets, who took Cascade's best shot before disposing of the Lady Champions 5-3 in Tuesday night's season opener at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill.
"We didn't even think about that, this is a New Year and I have told them already to put that stuff behind them because nobody cares. All that means is that you have a target on your back," Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said.

The Marshall County Tigers knew coming into Thursday's opening round of the TSSAA BlueCross Class AA Basketball Championships that Fayette Ware was not going to be anything other than the West Tennessee brand of team that likes to run, gun and rebound.
"I'm proud of the guys, they should enjoy it all and live it up," Marshall County coach Arnett Bodenhamer said. "But as a coach, as a competitor, I got a bad taste in my mouth, it's good and all, but that's not our goal, it was to bring home the gold or silver."

The Marshall County boys soccer team opened up the 2016 soccer season looking to accomplish something it had never done before-- beat Shelbyville Central in a soccer match.
The last three meetings have been close, with Marshall County (0-1) never falling by more than two goals and the Tigers hung tight with the Eagles (1-0) once again in Monday's season opener before falling 4-2 to the AAA team from Bedford County.

The hard part about an opening day win is gauging whether your team is that good or if your opponent is having a down year, but one thing is for sure after the first game of the 2015-2016 season, the Marshall County Tigerettes know how to take care of business...

Opening day.
There are three days as a boy that brought joy to me. The last day of school, the first day of school and opening day of baseball season.
On Monday, the spring prep season opened in Tennessee and at Forrest, the defending Class A state champion Summertown Eagles spoiled the Rockets' fun with a 10-5 win in the first meeting between the two schools since Alex Brewer's dramatic seventh inning homerun at Summertown that ended the Eagles' season two years ago in a sub-state game.

Marshall County Tigers coach Arnett Bodenhamer and his squad have internally believed in their abilities to overcome and win against the odds, not listening to the pundits and predictors, who didn't give them much of a chance just a couple of weeks ago.
Now the Tigers are changing minds in a hurry and they should be after travelling to Maplewood last Friday night and upsetting the sixth-ranked Panthers 56-54 in a dramatic come from behind win in a Class AA state sectional contest that punched Marshall County's ticket to the 2016 BlueCross Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association's State Basketball Championships.
