The Cornersville Bulldogs have a youthful enthusiasm about themselves and it was evident on Monday in the heat when they put on full pads for the first time at practice. "I think we faced a little adversity with the heat today and the guys are going to have to learn how to adapt to it, because guess what, this is what is going to be like on Friday nights," Bulldog head coach Gerard Randolph said. more

he fruits of a successful season for the entire Marshall County football team during the 2015 campaign have translated into opportunities for two Tiger wide receivers during the summer with Jay Howard and Tre Crutcher both receiving offers to continue playing after the 2016 season. Howard, who finished with 82 receptions and 970 yards receiving on the way to being named All-District, All-Region and All-Midstate, holds five offers at the moment from Morehead State, Valparaiso, Arkansas Tech, Lindenwood University and Cincinnati Christian, but lists favorites as Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, and Kentucky. more
Sometimes the best laid plans can go awry and boy oh boy did it painfully happen on Sunday as the defending 14-year old Babe Ruth state champion Marshall County Bombers came into this year's 15-year old tournament as heavy favorites to make it back to the SE Region Tournament with all signs pointing towards Union City for the Bombers. Marshall County hosted the state tournament last weekend at Lewisburg and the Bombers shellacked Franklin 23-0 in the opening round Friday night before coming away with a tough fought 4-3 win over Giles County on Saturday, putting the Bombers just one win away from a return trip to the SE Region. more
The Brent Johns head coaching era at Forrest began on January 26 when Matt Kriesky's left for Centennial High at Franklin, ending a successful two-year run with the Rockets, who posted a (17-6, 12-1 District) record under Kriesky, including the program's first region title in 29 years. Johns, a 1990 Forrest graduate begins his fourth season at his alma mater, serving as offensive coordinator for one year under Brian Coleman and in the same capacity under Kriesky. more

Marshall County High School baseball coach Mike "Monk" Reese has announced that tryouts will be held at Joe George Field in Lewisburg on July 13 and 14 at 10 a.m. both days. Ninth and tenth graders will try out on July 13 and tenth and eleventh graders on the 14. Proof of a physical will be required to tryout. more

Forrest's Boone Sweeney had an outstanding senior season at Forrest, winning the Class A Mr. Football award and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) all-state football player was also an All-District 9A backstop on the baseball team that capped off back-to-back district titles and region tournament titles that earned the Rockets a state tournament berth. After Forrest made an early exit from the Spring Fling on Wednesday, Sweeney got the opportunity to attend the Farm Bureau Health Plans' All-Midstate Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards banquet on Thursday at the Music City Center in Nashville. more
Martin Methodist signee's determination led her to college grant Anyssa Strong won't back down, in life or on the pitch. Epitomizing her strength as a fierce All-District 9A/AA defender for the Forrest Lady Rockets, Strong had a much bigger hurdle to conquer when her son Brentlyn was born in between her freshman and sophomore years. "It was hard, it took me away from soccer and I didn't like it, but I had to do it," an emotional Strong said. "Some people that have kids don't come back to school and I didn't want to be that person, I wanted to play soccer and I wanted to come back to school because I knew I still had things coming for me in life." more

The two-time and defending Class A state champion Forrest Lady Rockets faltered in their title defense, losing back-to-back games that resulted in elimination at the Spring Fling at Murfreesboro. The tournament started off baldly for the Chapel Hill girls as Huntingdon's Sara Beth Hayes no-hit Forrest in a 1-0 loss in Tuesday's opening round. more
