One time tested trait of a great football team is to never overlook an opponent- no matter how heavily your team might be favored or who the next opponent might be. The Tigers passed the test with flying colors on Friday night with a season opening 49-6 win at Franklin County.
The Marshall County machine was running on all cylinders against the Rebels with six different Tigers scoring and first-time starting quarterback Bryce Wallace throwing for 205 yards on 14-17 attempts.

In 2012, the Gary Wells Cup matches began between the three county high school golf teams and for all five years, Wells' beloved Tigers have run away with the trophy by an average margin 55.8 strokes, including a huge 70-stroke win this season.
"You want to keep that streak going, you don't want to be that team to let it go somewhere else," Marshall County coach Arnett Bodenhamer said. "The guys got here the last three days and wanted to keep it home and they did their job, we had a couple hiccups here and there, but we finished it out."

The Bulldogs picked up right where it left off last season, coming up with a 7-0 win over longtime rival Richland in the third game of the Cornersville jamboree Saturday night at Frog Bottom.
Cornersville, which beat the Raiders with ease by a 44-24 score to end last season on a high note, needed just one big play----a 52 yard touchdown catch from sophomore athlete Cameron Whitaker via his classmate Eli Woodard to send Richland home to Lynnville with a loss before the season starts on Friday.

The Tigers were dominant on both sides of the ball against the 2015 3A State runner-up, scoring at will and holding the Lions to a handful of positive yard plays.

After a close 22-16 win at Murrey E. Holton Field last year, the Forrest alumni football team had the daunting task of closing the two-game series with a trip to Wartrace where they were more than up to the task, blasting the Cascade Champions 28-0.
"These last two years have been the most fun I have ever had, playing on this team with great guys," Forrest quarterback Tooter Paul said. "Actually I had never beaten Cascade, so for me to come back and redeem ourselves, you can't beat the feeling."

The 2015 Forrest Rockets go down as one of the best teams ever in Chapel Hill, posting a 10-2 overall record and a 7-0 Region 4 mark that earned the Rockets its first region title in 29 years.
"It was 29 years since we won the last one and we don't want to wait that long again, we want to attack that goal now," first-year head coach Brent Johns said. "I'm honored to be here and humbled by the opportunity to follow in a lot of great guys' footsteps that have done this before me and I will continue to work hard and do the things we have done the last four years because it has worked and I don't see any reason why it won't work now."

Any lingering concerns over a drop in offensive production following the graduation of Mr. Football runner-up Ashton Posey was put to rest as five different Tigers scored in a 35-14 scrimmage win over Lipscomb on Tuesday night.
Fellow 4A opponent Lipscomb, finished 8-4 in 2015, and advanced to the second round of the TSSAA playoffs before falling to runner-up Pearl-Cohn by just 11 points and brought Oregon commitment Rutger Reitmaier to Lewisburg, but the Mustangs' defense could not contain the Tiger offense which scored on its first possession and never looked back.
