On Thursday, June 15 Walker Whaley (4-0) and Matthew McCormick tossed a combined perfect game in a 12-0 run-rule win over A-Plus with Whaley striking out five out of the nine batters he faced in the game before McCormick secured perfection with a 1-2-3 fourth inning.
Monday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Park, the young A-Plus squad came back strong, giving the Elks all they had in a 4-1 loss.
Carson Cheek started for A-Plus on the mound and gave up one earned run on five hits, while striking out nine and walking zero in 4.2 innings of work.

First place Marshall Medical Center took on winless Matthews Team Sports in the Tuesday night Babe Ruth opener and came away with an 11-3 five inning, run-rule win.
Logan Courtamanche and Blake Aldridge teamed up on the mound for MMC as Courtamanche picked up the win, tossing all three’s in the stat column.
Courtamanche pitched three innings, gave up three hits, three earned runs, struck out three and walked three.
Aldridge tossed two innings of hitless ball, striking out five and walking three Matthews’ batters.

The Lewisburg Elks Lodge #1990 continued their late-season hot streak with a tough 5-1 win over Nichirin Tuesday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field in Lewisburg.
The Elks (6-1) have won four games in a row since losing to Marshall Medical Center (6-1), who picked up a forfeit win over Nichirin on Wednesday.
The two first place squads have spilt a pair of games this season and have one more matchup remaining.

The nightcap of the Monday night doubleheader was all Elks as the visiting team banged 14 hits over four innings to beat Matthews by a score of 22-5 in a game called early by run-rule.
Matthews was able to cut the Elks’ lead to 8-4 following the second inning despite picking up just one hit in the game, but the Elks continued to score runs with ease with 14 over the final two innings.

Marshall Medical Center (MMC) jumped on A-Plus Collision Center early in the opening game on Monday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field, taking a 4-0 lead after one inning and then scored at least one run in three out of the next four innings to walk away with a 9-1 victory in six innings.
Despite scoring just one run, A-Plus had several chances to tighten the game up, but left six runners on base with three in scoring position in the eight-run loss.

The Wednesday evening nightcap featured APlus versus Matthews in another make-up game originally scheduled for Tuesday with the rescheduling forcing both teams to borrow players from other squads to fill the rosters. The contest started off neck and neck with the two squads tied at 2-2 heading into the third inning before APlus tacked on nine runs over the next three frames and the game was called after five with APlus taking the 11-2 win...

A Tuesday night thunderstorm forced a rainout between Elks and Nichirin to be made up on Wednesday night and with the short notice, other commitments left both teams shorthanded. The Elks started the game with only two outfielders and Nichirin was left to rely on players from different squads and the new chemistry may have been the deciding factor as Elks cruised to a 9-2 win behind a three-hit showing from Walker Whaley on the mound...

In January of 2006, three concerned citizens embarked on a mission to help the conservation efforts at Henry Horton State Park and since that time, the Friends of Henry Horton (FOHH) group, backed by the spirit of Tennessee volunteerism have achieved projects beyond their wildest dreams.
“It is hard to believe that we started out with three people and now we have a great turnout for meetings and great participation at all of our events and we are constantly amazed at how the community wants to be involved,” FOHH president Stacey Cothran said.

An Atlanta Braves film crew was at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field in Lewisburg Tuesday night, compiling a special on 14-year old, one-armed Luke Terry, who has garnered national recognition from ESPN, NBC, USA Today, the New York Post and former major league one-armed pitcher Jim Abbott.
“All this attention is just special for him,” Marshall County Babe Ruth league president Kenneth Demastus said. “Luke is the kind of kid that doesn’t necessarily want to be in the spotlight, he would rather do things to please other people.”

COLLEGE GROVE –FiftyForward College Grove’s signature fundraiser, the Katie Reed Golf Classic, returns Saturday, May 6, on the Buford Ellington Golf Course at Henry Horton State Park. Registration for the four-person scramble will begin at 7 am. Tee off is at 8.
The cost per player is $100 and includes a round of golf and cart, a goody bag, beverages, snacks, and lunch. A limit of two mulligans per player can be purchased for $5each. Players can also enter a putting contest for $5.
