The Elks versus Marshall Medical Center (MMC) has been the longest standing rivalry since the beginning of the Marshall County Babe Ruth League and another chapter was written on Tuesday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg as the Elks stole a 4-3 win to hand MMC its first loss of the season.
The Elks (4-2) only had two hits in the game, but made the most of three bases on balls and six fielding miscues by MMC (4-1) to pick up the win.
Zack Graves went the distance on the mound for MMC and was the tough-luck loser as he only gave up two earned runs, while striking out eight and walking three Elks’ batters.

In the second game of the Babe Ruth League twin bill Tuesday night, some weird things happened along the way.
The team that was getting no-hit led 5-0 after three innings before the team that won scored 8 runs in the last inning to claim the victory.
Ethan Spivey and Blake Moreland tossed a combined no-hitter for A-Plus Collision Center over Nichirin in the 10-5 win that was called after four innings due to the one hour and 45 minute time limit.

For many children, starting sports at an early age and gaining a specialty in football, basketball, soccer, or baseball is becoming increasingly common.
But one Chapel Hill youngster has taken a different path — riding and showing horses for as long as she could walk — Raelynn Williams, just 7 years old, is now taking the hobby to the next level, participating in the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration before competing in The National Academy Championship Horse Show in Murfreesboro November, 3 thru 6.

Six years ago, Lewisburg’s Genia Borton participated in a half marathon to benefit St. Jude’s Children Hospital and the race course meandered through the Memphis campus where the children and families of St. Jude sat outside to cheer and greet the runners as they came by.
“It is a very emotional time for most of the runners,” Borton said. “And the next year I was allowed to tour the amazing hospital.”

When the Forrest Rockets reached the quarterfinal round of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) playoffs last year it marked just the second time in Chapel Hill’s history that a team had gone that far.
The first time was the year Elvis died, 1977.
“The big deal for that year was when Elvis died and we got the news as we were getting ready for practice,” said ’78 Forrest grad Steve Turner, who went on to become a standout running back at Tennessee State University and also played in the last Forrest Alumni game in 2015 at the age of 55. “Everyone in the locker room was shocked. I also know my teacher Ms. Todd lost 10 years of life because she played his music every day in her class room until we graduated.”
