The defending state champion Marshall County 13-15 year-old all-stars opened up the 2018 state tournament with a 9-1 win over East Nashville at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg Friday night. Marshall County had three, three-run innings on offense, while Carson Cheek and Logan McKnight combined for a two-hitter on the mound. Cheek started the game and picked up the win, giving up two hits and one earned run in three innings of work, while striking out eight and walking two East Nashville batters. more
Logan Courtemanche took the ball for the winner’s bracket game Saturday night versus Lebanon at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg and pitched the game of his life, tossing 6.2 innings of shutout baseball as Marshall County won 7-0 to advance to Sunday’s title game. Courtemanche gave up four hits, while striking out seven and walking one Lebanon batter before he reached his mandatory pitch count with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. more
It took all day and much of the night for the Marshall County all-stars to complete a back-to-back sweep of the 13-15 year-old Babe Ruth League state championships via an 8-0 win over Lebanon in the title game Sunday. The title tilt started two hours late because of rain and lightning delays and another short delay because of a lighting outage when the local sports editor (Me) accidently hit the switch in the Press Box. “They showed up early, got a little batting practice and they were real positive and upbeat the whole time,” Marshall County manager Mike Mills said. “When we hit that field it just had that feel about it. For lack of a better word, there was blood in the water and the sharks were circling.” more
After sweeping three straight games last weekend at Pulaski to claim the District 8 title, the Marshall County 13-15 year-old Babe Ruth League all-stars have home field advantage for the state tournament beginning Friday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg. “I’m excited about getting out here and opening this state, but I’m not near as excited as these boys,” all-star manager Mike Mills said. “If you saw them today (Monday) when they were finished practicing they looked like mud balls and it’s dry out here. more
The Marshall County Babe Ruth League 13-15 year-old all-stars travelled to Pulaski for the District 8 Tournament last weekend and pummeled the competition, pulling off a three-game sweep to claim the championship. Marshall County opened with an 8-2 win over the hosts with Carson Cheek picking up the win on the mound. more

First place Marshall Medical Center finished up the Babe Ruth League regular season in style on Saturday, beating A-Plus 14-7 in game one before taking down archrival Elks 6-3 in game two. MMC standout all-star Zack Graves slammed the first over the fence home run of the season versus A-Plus and came back with another long dinger against the Elks. more

Tuesday night’s Babe Ruth League action kicked off with a matchup between A-Plus Collision Center (2-6) and Nichirin (3-6) and the two squads played neck-and-neck the entire game before a late surge by Nichirin sealed a 6-4 win. Ethan Hollis started on the mound for A-Plus and Logan McKnight took the ball for Nichirin. There was no scoring in the first inning and McKnight tossed a 1-2-3 second inning before Hollis ran into some control problems in the bottom of the second inning as he walked Rob Hawkins, Kristian Yanke-Malone, and Hayden Luna to load the bases with one out. more
Marshall Medical Center claimed another Babe Ruth League title Tuesday night with a solid 6-4 win over its archrival Elks. The dynamic mound duo of Zack Graves and Logan Courtemanche did it again for MMC (7-1) with Graves starting the game and pitching three innings before being relieved by Courtemanche in a tie game. Courtemanche came on and tossed three innings of one-hit baseball to pick up the win before the pair got some seventh inning help from Ashton Grubbs, who earned the save. more

The Elks (5-3) pulled off one of the most dramatic comebacks in recent history as they trailed Nichirin 7-0 and 9-1 before stealing a 10-9 eight inning win in the Babe Ruth League twin bill nightcap at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg Monday night. Nichirin (2-6) starting pitcher Logan McKnight held the Elks in check over the first four innings, giving up just two runs on two hits, while striking out nine and walking two. more
Nichirin ace Logan McKnight shut down a struggling A-Plus Tuesday night, tossing 3.1 innings of one-hit ball in a 7-3 win at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg. McKnight struck out six and walked three A-Plus batters and the lone base knock he surrendered came on an Ethan Hollis fourth inning double with one out. Daniel Sellars picked up the save on the mound with 2.1 innings of shutout baseball and Sellars also went 2-for-3 at the plate. more
