The Marshall County Dusters arrived in Stafford, Virginia last week for the Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament at ground zero in the historic heat wave that swept the region, causing tournament director John Armentrout to shuffle the schedule after the first day, dictating teams play either early in the morning or after dark to beat the heat.
Marshall County head coach Mike "Monk" Reese said about the circumstances, "The first day we did not play very well. I think the heat got us. They had to shut it down after they got hit with all kinds of heat related problems."

The tough and talented hometown Marshall County 12U All-Stars were cruising along at the Babe Ruth Southeast Regional Tournament in Lewisburg, scoring consecutive blowout wins over Madison County, North Carolina (17-1) and New Kent, Virginia (13-1) before suffering a gut wrenching 7-4 loss to defending champion Altamonte Springs, Florida in their third and final pool game.
The Altamonte Springs loss was an especially tough pill to swallow as manager Danny Hollingsworth's squad uncharacteristically, started sloppily on defense by allowing four unearned first inning runs and would try to chip away at the lead, but could not mount the big inning they had become accustomed to in the first two games.

Before the first game, the team answered with a resounding "We are Marshall" chant and then proceeded to back up their rallying cry with an emphatic 13-3 run-rule win over Maury County in game one.
Marshall County followed that up with a come from behind, instant classic 7-6 triumph over Lawrenceburg in game two, setting up a one game showdown for the district title today at 2:00 p.m. at Sam Davis Park in Pulaski.
