This past week I had the pleasure of interviewing KJ Johnson, a 2019 MCHS graduate and basketball standout, who will start his sophomore year at Lipscomb University this fall. Johnson recently completed his freshman year online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. more
I recently spoke on Facebook to a good friend of mine, someone I have much respect for and have shared some huge moments on the athletic fields from the time she was in seventh grade. Jasmine Runk is a 2018 Forrest graduate and sophomore at Columbia State Community College where she was just getting started competing in her second sport of the season as a Lady Charger softball player before embarking to Glenville State College in West Virginia in August to continue her academic career and the difficult endeavor of being a two-support athlete in soccer and softball. more

Alabama coach Nick Saban doesn't believe extending preseason camp for college football teams around the country is necessarily the best way to get them ready for the season. 2018 Forrest graduate and Columbia State Community College (CSCC) sophomore goal keeper Jasmine Runk didn’t think it was a big deal playing two sports in high school and after two years of just playing soccer at CSCC, Runk added Lady Charger softball this spring and both sports next year at Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia. “I’m extremely happy, this is my future, so I’m pretty excited about it,” Runk said. “Not playing softball for two years and going back in to it makes me very excited.” more

Maxwell Football Club President Mark Dianno announced today that LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has been selected as the winner of the 83rd Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year, and that Ohio State junior defensive end Chase Young is the winner of the 25th Chuck Bednarik Award for the Collegiate Defensive Player of the Year. more
What figures to be an award-winning week for LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is underway. Burrow was named The Associated Press college football player of the year presented by Regions Bank on Thursday in a landslide vote, making him the first LSU player to win the the 21-year-old award. Burrow, who has led the top-ranked Tigers to an unbeaten season and their first College Football Playoff appearance, received 51 of 54 first-place votes from AP Top 25 poll voters and a total of 159 points. more
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Army quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr. is a bundle of nerves. On behalf of the Tennessee football program, Vice Chancellor and Athletics Director Phillip Fulmer attended the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl coaches meeting to receive the Vols official invitation to play Indiana on Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. ET, from bowl committee members and city representatives, Wednesday evening. To open the ceremony Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry gifted each team with a key to the city before Indiana head coach Tom Allen gave media an opening statement, followed by Fulmer. Tennessee was designated the home team for the bowl game, which will mark the 75th anniversary of the Gator Bowl. more

From an early age, former Forrest High soccer star Brynn Colvin had a feeling the sport would take her places. Now a junior in college and the top player for Division II University of Alabama at Huntsville, all signs are pointing towards Colvin making the right decision to pursue soccer over basketball at a young age. more

Who's Hot RB Cam Akers, Florida State Yup, there's still some life left in the Seminoles. It's been a rocky season in Tallahassee, to be sure. But Florida State shook off a tough loss to Wake Forest a week earlier to flatten Syracuse and even its record at 4-4. Akers, who has run well all season long, was the offensive centerpiece for Willie Taggart, rushing 20 times for 144 yards and a career-best four touchdowns... more
