To the editor: At a time when budget cuts are being made right and left to our taxpayer benefits, now Marshall County's Chancery Court judge is costing taxpayers a large sum of money to train someone in the replacement of retired Clerk and Master Tommy Higdon...

Dear Editor: So, why am I not surprised by the "re-opening" of the landfill? Apparently, all the owners of the landfill had to do was to wait for a change in government so they could get approval for dumping our waste in a sinkhole. Why should I believe that Waste Management could contain leakage from a sinkhole?...

To the Editor: I am admittedly amazed at the "spin" politicians and the media put on events occurring in the world around us, drawing your attention to the most recent diabolical proceedings that took place in our nation's capital. Our President quotes both Lincoln and Reagan (staunch "Republicans"), attempting to somehow get us to believe in his ideas. (If he were to actually have one.)...

To the editor: Just by accident, I learned that the City of Chapel Hill had a new Senior Citizens Center located on Depot Street. A lady happened to stop by my garage sale that I was having and mentioned that there was a new center on Depot Street. Otherwise, I would have never known...

To the editor: I'm a newcomer to Lewisburg and follow the city and county governments through the Tribune. I'm not involved in politics and don't know anyone in city or county government. I worked in government for 27 years and saw a lot of decisions that would have been better had more study been made, opinions expressed, and questions asked...

To the editor: Goodwill is grateful to be a part of your community. Our stores and Donation Express Centers are visible, and I hope, well-known signs of what we do. But there is much more to our story than you may know. We are all about jobs. For everyone. Our mission is to provide job training and placement services to people who need help looking for, finding and keeping a job...

To the editor: Rather than addressing his concern directly to me, a citizen of Marshall County recently chose this forum to question my agenda as a school board member and to presume that "egos and prejudices" were the basis for my actions on that board...

To the editor: I just finished reading the April 20 edition of the Tribune and it has left me wondering about a couple of issues discussed there. First, when is the Marshall County Board of Education going to get by their personal agendas and work with the Schools Director, whom they elected, to serve the education of the children of this county? It was my impression that this is what they are to focus on in the first place...

To The Editor: The recent controversy surrounding our beloved Lone Oak Cemetery has compelled me to reach out to our community and express my sincere belief on a subject that is dear to my heart. Since my earliest memories Lone Oak has been a place of peace, reverence and great beauty - truly a treasure to our community and a place of dignity in which to respectfully inter our loved ones...

To the editor: Years ago Daddy and Mama paid for lots at Lone Oak Cemetery. Later someone was buried in one of the lots, so they agreed to take different lots. In March 2002, Daddy was buried. A few days later we noticed his grave had sunk. We were told funeral homes were not allowed to pack graves - the City did it. Thanks to Mr. Duncan, Daddy's grave and several others were packed that day. Who knows when the City would have done it...

To the editor: Stan Butt with Farm Animal Care Coalition of Tennessee made misleading claims regarding The Humane Society of the United States and our work ("Farm animal coalition forming in county," Feb. 25). The mission of the Humane Society of the United States is to fight animal cruelty and to promote the proper care and treatment of animals- all animals. ...

To the editor: This is concerning the article about "snow routes and children not being at school for meals" in the Feb. 4 issue of the Marshall County Tribune. We don't know Mr. Randy Perryman, but commend him and others for standing up for children's safety. That is what comes first...

To the editor: I was happy to see the picture with the excellent article showing the historic building on 1st Avenue. I have long wished for someone to show an interest in this structure. To the Editor, It was a very sad day for Marshall County with the sudden passing of Mr. Anthony Eugene James owner and CEO of AJ Medical Services. Dear Marshall County, I apologize for the disrespect that I may have shown to anyone, or to a veteran or their family by participating in throwing a war memorial off of a bridge. Dear Editor, What a joy it is to live in a County where people are so generous to their neighbors. While watching the news conference about the flood, Mayor Dean mentioned the specific things they needed to start the clean up of Tennessee after the huge rainfall and flood of 17 counties. Since we here in Marshall County were not hit so hard I felt the need to send help because I had personal experience with a flood in Illinois...

To the Editor I live in Lewisburg and I am one of the millions of people who have joined the movement to end multiple sclerosis. Every hour someone is diagnosed with MS, a chronic disease of the central nervous system for which there is no cure. Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and stops people from moving. Many have trouble imagining what their lives would be without the ability to move, but I know the effects of MS: I have MS...
