The media smell blood in the water. There are four people in Trump’s orbit who they’ve been trying to take down and they just got their first kill. General Mike Flynn, the now-former national security advisor to the president was the first. They hope he won’t be the last... more
I wish I could tell you that my old alma mater (Marshall County High School in Lewisburg, Tennessee) still publishes a student newspaper, but that would be fake news. The defunct MCHS paper (where I spent some of the happiest, nerdiest years of my life) has a lot of company. ... more
Donald Trump is driving everyone in Washington nuts with his mad presidential style. Republicans in Congress are getting jumpy. The powerless Democrats are so desperate they actually think Senator Elizabeth Warren is the future of their party. The mainstream liberal media are overacting to Trump’s dumb daily morning tweets like they are official edicts coming from the ghost of Joe Stalin... more
There are three things we’ll remember from Super Bowl LI. The greatest comeback in the history of the big game, Brady winning a record five Super Bowls, and the day 84 Lumber went all in on supporting illegal aliens and lost. A couple of weeks before the Super Bowl I was alerting my listeners that Fox had nixed the long version of 84 Lumber’s commercial. ... more
Editor’s Note: A version of this column was originally published in 2007. Punxsutawney Phil must be stopped. You know Phil. Every Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, he is yanked from a tree stump in Punxsutawney, Pa. If he sees his shadow, his organizers allege, there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, spring will be just around the corner... more
Lefties have one go-to reaction to anything that does not fit their narrative: protest. They know if George Soros or any two-bit local malcontent can get 10 lay-about friends together, paint some signs and alert the media, they will get inordinate TV coverage. Apparently you don’t have to say what you are protesting or have a concise message. Just show up in perpetual outrage (maybe a “vagina hat” would make a nice statement). As long as you are yelling about Trump, you will be captured on TV... more
Apparently, fighting for the soul of America is an unacceptable occupation for believers. I’m also hearing that it is exceptionally inappropriate for former good girls like me, a widowed pastor’s wife, who is supposedly nosediving toward Hades because she speaks out against the darkness of these days using her writing... more
Members of the national political media are actually blaming President Trump for their own fake news. I agree with Washington Post Deputy Editorial Staff Editor Jackson Diehl that to “report the routine as scandalous” destroys the media’s credibility... more
Have you ever noticed how often liberal feminists claim they speak for all women? They consistently insist their policy agenda is pro-female. Call me naive, but I believe liberals are about as pro-female as they are pro-choice. They claim to be pro-choice, but attempt to legislate everything under the sun, such as: soda sizes, guns, coal, car sizes, God, free speech, bathrooms, school choice, cake baking, salt, and cigarettes... more
The Trump Train is rolling on. It’s going so fast and in so many directions at once that its critics can’t catch up. All week long President Trump has filled the headlines with news. He’s nominated Neil Gorsuch -- a great judge who understands and reveres what the Constitution says, not what he’d like it to say -- to fill Antonin Scalia’s un-fillable seat on the Supreme Court... more
In 2017, you should never be subjected to the use of the word, “gnarly,” unless you’re describing your latest faux Chippendale woodworking project. Sadly, my longtime arms-length friendly acquaintance Gnarly Nat demands he be addressed by this aged moniker... more
The demand for skilled laborers - electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians and others - continues to soar, and that’s a good thing for America. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, skilled-trades jobs have increased by more than 1 million since 2012 - “the most of any profession.”... more
It’s interesting, isn’t it? A guy makes a campaign promise. He gets elected on that promise. In the first two weeks he keeps the promise. And people lose their minds. Let’s get a couple of things straight up front. President Trump’s executive order is not a Muslim ban. ... more
While brainstorming angles for this Valentine’s Day column, it suddenly occurred to me that this February 14 will be the 30th my wife and I have celebrated as a couple (combining courtship and married life). I’m glad I can share this milestone with you. ... more
Given the daily liberal head explosions occurring because of President Trump’s immigration policies, one might think Trump demolished the Statue of Liberty, or worse, reintroduced school prayer, when all he did is take executive action on January 27 to protect Americans... more
In search of any plausible, positive legacy item, even if they have to manufacture it, Democrats have advanced the false narrative that Obama “saved the economy.” It would be a neat thing if it were true. Let me parse out the facts of this spin, echoed by the media and academia, as it relates to Obama’s self-proclaimed “top” legacy item... more
Whether you still prefer to hold a printed newspaper in your hands or have become comfortable reading news on a screen, you should hope that the essential journalism remains the same. Increasingly, however, editors are concluding that new delivery systems require significant changes in content. ... more
Is your head spinning? I know mine is. President Donald Trump hit the ground running his first day in office and didn’t look back. Freezing government hiring with the exception of the military, canceling the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, temporarily suspending all contract and grant awards through the EPA, ripping all vestiges of ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’ from the White House website and replacing it with a common sense energy policy, putting Ajit Pai in charge of the FCC which all but ensures net neutrality is dead, gutting the most damaging Obamacare mandates. ... more
To avoid conflicts of interest on his investments, President Trump plans to "gift" hotel profits from foreign governments' payments to the U.S. Treasury - gifts that will go directly toward paying down U.S. debt. You see, the Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service accepts money gifted to the federal government but, according to the bureau, the gift must be made "on the condition that it be used to reduce debt held by the public." The bureau began allowing volunteer donations in 1961... more
King Solomon once wrote in Proverbs 19:13 the most annoying sound on the planet was a nagging wife, but obviously, he'd never heard what leftists sound like after they lose elections. "Trump Derangement Syndrome" will be around for years to come folks, so it might be wise to invest in a good set of earbuds to drown out the whining. ... more
