ow the story should be told, although it's still being reported without one of the five W's needed for a traditional lead on a news report. The five W's are who, what, where, when and why. The "unknown nominee," in our editorial cartoon is real, but remains anonymous here so as to do no harm to someone who merely wants to improve their lot in life...

As the days slowly turn much warmer and the trees change from their spring pastels to deep summer greens, farmers across Tennessee prepare for this year's planting and cropping season. They repair hay balers parked over the winter in metal sheds, hoping for just one more year of use and a bumper crop...

A couple of public service jobs remain open in this community. One is a seat on the Lewisburg City Council. It comes with power and responsibility. The base pay is $150 per month and $50 for each special meeting. The open seat is a temporary position, expiring with the results of the city's May 2009 election...

To the Editor: Midnight tonight will be the official kick off of our Memorial Day weekend. To some of us it is a weekend of remembrance of those lost in the line of duty in service for our country. Sadly, to some it will be just another excuse to drink and drive. While they put innocent lives in danger. And I guess that is their choice to make. After all, all the service men and women who this holiday is in honor of, died to give them that freedom...

It's about our communnity
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to an article written April 30, titled "City opens dialogue on race." There were some errors in the article. The NAACP did not just request the information during Black History Month, these requests started last year.

A few years back I heard, and used in one of my articles, a story about a farmer who had decided to quit farming and do something else. When he was asked why he was giving up the farming career he had been involved in for so long, he said, "There are just too many 'ups' for me."...

During the 1990s, Fred Hobbs was, simultaneously, mayor of Eagleville; the district's representative to the Tennessee House of Representatives; a member of the Rutherford County Board of Education, which elected him chairman of that panel; and for one year he was chairman of the board of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce...

Newspaper reporters don't have all the questions, so this week we decided to ask our readers for suggestions for an up-coming question of the week. Fortunately, everybody we asked knew about this column and were eager to offer us their ideas. We present their answers here...

To the Editor It is humorous that our county commissioners should entertain the idea of putting "another" landfill in Marshall County. How could another landfill possibly benefit this county? Will it create 500 new jobs? Will it increase property values? Will it attract tourism to our county? How will it greatly benefit people in Chapel Hill, Belfast, Farmington, Petersburg, Berlin?...

To the Editor: I doubt you will print this letter. You have never printed one I have written. But I thought I'd give it one more try. Mother's Day is fast approaching. I know you only feature one or two mothers. Which is fine for those mothers. But why not devote a whole section to letters about mother's like your counterpart in Shelbyville? But I guess some people would not approve, right? Oh well, I'm going to try anyways...

Well, it has happened. We've outgrown our present landfill and now a new site has been selected. My, how much energy is surrounding it. Signs on lawns, people discussing the ramifications.

To the Editor:
My husband and I were born and raised in Marshall County. We were proud of our county and the beauty of it could not be compared. The hills and the fertile land in the south of our county was known as the best farm land in the county and was so productive that it made many residents wealthy enough that they're offspring are willing to sell it off for garbage.

My name is Levi Henry. I live in Diana, Tenn. My grandparents live on Claude Fox Road.
Waste Management is trying to put a landfill close to their house. They have 100 acres that I have lived and played on all my life. I plan to raise cows on that land when I grow up.

To the Editor:
I am writing in opposition to the proposed landfill south of Cornersville. I have heard it called many things already. Waste Management calls it an "environmental center." Waste Management should call it their "goose that will lay the golden eggs." I prefer to call it what it would actually be, a dirty stinking garbage dump.

By Pettus Read Guest Columnist In my most recent column, I expounded on just why I am supportive of the use of ethanol and expressed the point that increased use of ethanol and biodiesel may help stem even higher gas prices at the gas pump. But, since that column hit the presses, the naysayers of what's wrong with the world have spent their extra computer time sending me emails with copies of other people's articles attempting to prove that I must have been drinking the ethanol at the time I wrote that "piece," as my mother calls my articles, rather than pumping it in my FFV.. ...
