The owners of Bubblegum, a dog that was buried in and then moved from a city cemetery plot owned by the family for years, consulted with an undertaker before Bubblegum was buried. An 80-pound catfish caught at Big Whiskers Catfish Farm last Sunday was no April Fool's Day joke. Area wheat and livestock producers need to take special care when it comes to using the 2007 wheat and small grain crops for either forage or grain. The recent extremely cold temperatures can cause a major problem for area producers. Producers wanting to harvest cold damaged small grains for hay or haylage will need to have these crops tested for nitrates if the fields were top dressed late or when soil moisture has been low. ... more

A juror discussed a drug defendant's case during a recess in Marshall County Circuit Court last month and because jurors aren't supposed to do that, the judge had little choice but to grant the defense attorney's motion for a new trial. Therefore, Darron Keith "Quarterhead" Lyttle, 33, of Seventh Avenue, Lewisburg, still faces charges alleging he was in possession of at least half a gram of cocaine with the intent to sell. Rising seventh-graders in Marshall County are among those eligible to receive a newly established merit scholarship totaling $30,000 to internationally renowned Webb School in Bell Buckle. For the second time in approximately three months, intruders have forced their way into a woman's apartment at the Summit Apartments on Franklin Road and while nothing was taken, the victim was transported by ambulance to Marshall Medical Center, complaining of chest pains, following the attack. more
