New Lake has been renamed by the Lewisburg City Council. It's now called Lewisburg Lake. Marshall County's Budget Committee and other county leaders support a 10-percent reduction in their pay and for all departments' spending because of economic conditions, according to several commissioners. Don Ledford was the first commissioner to raise the idea, Budget Committee Chairman Mickey King said after a non-voting committee workshop. A commercial building just four blocks off the square changed hands for $21,400 less than its tax appraisal value last Saturday. Jerry Shelton of Exit Celebration Realty and Auction of Shelbyville sold two properties at auction for Mary Ann Roberts that day, the commercial building and also a farm on Springplace Road. A car was set on fire in front of the owner's home near Chapel Hill just after midnight Sunday morning. Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy Tony Nichols' report states that he was called to Daughrity Road in Chapel Hill by homeowner David Ingram, 30. "David Ingram reported that he was laying in bed and heard a boom outside his residence and his wife Jessica Ingram ran in and told him that his car was on fire," wrote Nichols... more
Lewisburg police have been called to Glenn Avenue twice recently for incidents of vandalism to mailboxes. Officer Kevin Clark went to Ricky T. Ables' residence at about 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. According to Clark's report, Ables told him "he heard a noise outside and looked out the door and noticed a vehicle had run over his mailbox and left the area headed toward Monroe Street." The Marshall County High School teacher caught with marijuana while on school property nearly seven weeks ago pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in General Sessions Court on Tuesday, officials said. Lewisburg's City Council on Tuesday night sanctioned a complete reorganization of the trash collection schedule and garbage truck routes for all 11,000 residents of the city. Circuit Court Judge Robert Crigler last week denied a new trial request for a man convicted of harassment during a phone call and scheduled him for trial on a similar charge in a different case. Ricky Eugene Scoville, 42, of McMinnville, was convicted Oct. 27 by a Marshall County jury on a charge that he telephoned a grocery store employee and made racially insulting remarks that had no legitimate purpose... more
